The Daily Mail is criticising the Nazi salute saying her back is not straight enough and she hasn't really got her heart in it. I say she is doing quite well following the family tradition.

I heard about that. Gotta laugh. So many of the royals favoured Hitler. And one of them was murdered by Churchill to stop he making peace with the moustachioed maniac behind Churchill's back. And then, of course, is the Duke of Edinburgh and his sisters who were married to German aristo's who were top Himmler aides in the SS.

This reminds me. I bought the book on the "Red Book, the Membership List of the Right Club" by Robin Saika. What a sad thing it is too. There are several hundred names listed - but not Prince George, the Duke of Kent, who I understood was a member as relayed by Martin Frost (who had an original copy of the Red Book but wouldn't let me have a copy - this is a good 10-15 years ago, way before the thing was published) along with somewhere in the region of 5-6000 members of the British elite. Hence the several hundred names published in 2010 doesn't amount to a great deal apparently. I wonder if it was published after the 70 year rule on secrecy but the rest of the names are still subject to the 100 year rule or subject to the never-ever-tell rule?::laughingdog::

Precisely my thoughts too. He was related to the Queen Mum and knew here quite well (probably her secrets too). He might've been a traitor but since he saved the royals family from extreme embarrassment at the end of WWII he was saved from prison for 15 years by patronage - even though he confessed in 1964. I never fully understood why Thatcher finally outed him in 1979 - but then Thatcher was a spook's moll and doubtless was doing the bidding of the the right-wing elements in MI-5, as suggested HERE.

I wonder if Blunt's published memoirs are free of judicious state editing?

Thatcher said it was because she could see no reason for cover up....I never think of Maggie as a champion of transparency some how. Can't remember any other matter in which she seemed so intent on bringing it to the light of day. I do remember that her relationship with Mrs Windsor was not always the easiest.

Victor Rothschild's role in this and several other matters is crying out to be told. Didn't he bank roll Thatcher too?

The British royals are a German family (Hanover/Saxe-Coburg-Gotha), a dynasty related to Germany's old royal family (and the Russian Czars). Not surprising that they harbor aristocratic/authoritarian views.

Aye, he did. On the day she was elected she travelled to his home to meet and thank him. His wealth and influence meant he didn't have to care about being named publicly - see HERE.

I wonder what kind of schism amongst the ruling class is at the root of this particular revelation...

Towards the end of the war in Germany in 1945 a couple of
GIs discovered the German Foreign Ministry's archive. They
just prevented some German soldiers from destroying the lot.
The files were moved to Marburg castle for safety. Summaries
were sent to London and Washington for review. Papers dealing
with the Duke of Windsor were discovered. A couple of months
after this discovery, Anthony Blunt (then working for KGVI's
wife), showed-up and filleted the archive of these items.
What he didn't know was that there were duplicates of the
files, duplicates that ended up in the US.
This programme is about these - and other papers - and the
[attempts to have them destroyed].
