I posit the public execution of the 35th president was the realpolitik equivalent to the "failure to communicate" speech in Cool Hand Luke.

That is so perfectly expressed Phil. Government mobsters have many discrete methods of murder if they want to fly under the radar:

-Death by convenient auto accident, e.g., Princess Diana,
-Death by introduced cancer, e.g., Bob Marley,
-Death by exploding cigars or toxic scuba suits, e.g., Fidel Castro,
-Death by drug suppository, e.g., Marilyn Monroe,
-Death by radioactive crud, e.g., Alexander Litvinenko,
-Death by non-fatal painkillers with non-fatal knife cuts, e.g., David Kelly,
-Death by assisted suicide and/or cerebral hemorrhage, e.g., Davie Ferrie,
-Death by boating accident, as mentioned in the thread title, e.g., boatphobic William Colby (so that one seems like a coded whack job intended to be obvious only to other spooks),
-Death by strategically timed brain surgery to the speaking center of the brain, e.g., William Casey,
-Death by plane crash, e.g., Dorothy Hunt and numerous others.

To name just a few.

By contrast the murder of President Kennedy was a very public execution with extreme prejudice.

Oh Yeah!, they wanted this one public, in Texas and to send several messages to several others who needed to be told who was boss - as well as another message of general hopelessness to the American People, IMO. While there were ample opportunities to kill JFK and make it look like and accident or not such a public execution, this was chosen and well thought out [understatement]. In fact two SS men were constantly watching JFK in his private bedroom and offices from a nearby building and easily could have shot him and disappeared without anyone ever knowing who, why...etc. But they WANTED, IMO, both a false story to fool/scare the Public and an obvious 'story' to scare all the remaining persons who thought they had the power of their positions......:ridinghorse:
