Full Version: Well, it's Obama as alpha male of the US. He has the office but not the power.

Thank you to all the US voters who didn't vote for the Republicans. As a non-US resident I cannot vote in those elections but your choice effects us all. I am feeling more relieved that McCain didn't get in than pleased that Obama did. Though it is amazing and great indeed to see a black man in the highest official position in that land. Some people will not be sleeping easy tonight because of that and no doubt the Illinois Nazi party may get a few more members. I hate Illinois Nazis. Cool

We will see how he goes. I think many people have high hopes for what he can do. I still think he will end up being Brzezhinsky's boy though and there will be great disappointment. Class interests will prevail as always they do. The US is not a real democracy yet. If he steps out of line there is always the Dallas option. Let's hope he gets ris of all his useless advisors and gets some real new blood in there. Then there can be change.

You're welcome.

Well that's what makes you such a good blues brother.

Give us overnight to savor this.
Then I will divulge that you've said nothing I disagree with.

G'night. They made it very hard to vote, particularly in the major swing states, so it's been a tiring day.
It is a great moment, well beyond the man himself. It is a very small step back from the abyss and hopefully (if the People lead and let Obama follow!) a step toward a better direction. I'd have prefered a Nader or McKenny, etc., but wish Obama well and that no harm comes to him - a real fear. Yes, he is surrounded by the usual 'suspects' and tools for the Oligarchy and, yes, many of his proposals for the future are not very progressive nor in step with what the People want. IF [a very big if] We The People push and pull Obama to where we want to go and not sit back and just watch TV, we may make some progress and get rid of the thugs that surround Obama. It is also a great vindication of all who struggled and died in the Civil Rights Movement. I hope those who organized to support and get out the vote for Obama will not let up and tell him what WE want. He is, I think, the kind of person who can change, a little, in a positive direction (as did JFK). Now to break the hold the Oligarchy has on the Nation - no small task! Fellow Americans, rejoice, but don't let up. Our battle has just begun to take our Nation back! Those caveats said, best wishes to our new Brother in the White House! I do feel ever so little better about my country today, then I did yesterday. I have zero illusions that the system of deep political control has changed at all, nor that they will try to move Obama into their 'tent'...or 'else'.
I actually though McCain's concession speech very gracious. Is there any one else here who thinks he was quite relieved not to have won and genuinely pleased for Obama?

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say he was pleased for Obama, but his concession speech was good, gracious, and very necessary. A small minority in the USA are now nearly insane with fear over a 'Socialist and Muslim crypto-terrorist' as President [wait until you hear the rightwing conspiracy theories coming out soon!) Actually, the mess that W has left will be nearly impossible to fix or clean-up by anyone anytime soon.....[not to mention the Deep Political Establishemnt does not want it cleaned-up, only made less visible.] Obama is in for a rough ride, I fear.

And a big sigh of relief from most Americans.

Obama didn't get the senate majority which could turn into a problem later, imo.

He's got to stamp his authority early while he's still got the messianic following. He'll need to confront the MIC and explain the facts of life. Then there's the Israel lobby, that'll be harder still. Then there's big pharma, big oil, big business, the drug prohibition industry, and fundamentalist Christianity. Basically, most of the interlocking influences which corrupt western democracies, especially America's. I almost forgot--America's broke as well, although this might work in Obama's favor.

Of course, his most powerful enemy will be the MSM.

He's facing a hard task.

Add to the above the lobbed 'nuke' - announcing a Russian medium range set of missile bases to counter the American ones in Eastern Europe. He may yet also soon have some mess in Iran to clean up - all created by the current monsters still in the throne room. He's going to have to do a lot of quick growing-up and learn about the men behind the curtain - if he doesn't yet.....he will soon enough.
Guys and gals: And welcome Mark, nice to see you here. But as I said on another thread I believe Obama KNOWS all about the powers behind the curtain. I think he learned a LOT from his former pastor. I just returned from a child protective services mediation and the family mambers- all afro Americans- know the truth about JFK, MKL. So if these young not very educated people know (late 30's) don't you think Obama did some studying before he even ran? His wife was afraid. Michelle clearly knows in my opinion.
So he will have to walk a delicate line to try to accomplish all that he wants to accomplish without getting himself assassinated.
Like Peter I'd have perferred Cynthia (who is one of us!!) or Nadar, but we are a long way from a true chance of a 3rd party winning. In '76 it gave the election to Ray- gun and in '92 it gave the election to Clinton.

I just hope the up the number of secret services and that they truly do thier jobs this time. We don't want another Dallas. But we know that if the bastards decide to take him out it will be a plane crash --(like JFK Jr)- or an untraceable heart attack or cancer like Ruby....WE will know...
Or another Dallas. In our face like JFK.
The best we can hope for is that he surrounds himself with advisors who know true history.

I should add that the Democrats did win a Senate majority, as opposed to the deadlocked situation which existed prior to the election, but they didn't get the magical 60, or three fifths, needed to guillotine filibusters in that chamber. I believe they've ended up with 56.

True, but the got a sufficient number to allow them to finally jettison Joe the Lieberman. That's an excellent consolation prize. I personally am having a surge of anticipatory schadenfreude.
