On another thread someone asked about the members of both organizations. Regarding COPA I know who many of the members are but not the full roster. Re. Lancer I only know it is run by Debra Conway and possibly her husband. A musician -Joey Garenti- is a member. But aside from that I have no clue. The author of "Someone Would Have Talked" Larry Hancock is Lancer. Does anyone know who makes up both of these competing groups? I know that Conway befriended Mary Ferrell and had hoped to aquire Mary's vast archieve, but that did not occur. Other than that all I know about Lancer is based on rumor. I have no personal knowledge of anything, having never met any of the members. I am not even certain which group started first. Lancer is holding its conference a week early this year. Which is really a shame for those who wish to see the guests and speakers at both conferences. Jim DiEugenio, who spoke at both last year, is only speaking at Lancer this year.

I attended COPA last year but a family committment will casue me to miss the conference this year. Dr. Peter Dale Scott is among the speakers. Likely will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Cyril Wect will be there by remote. Many more. Sounds like a great lineup this year.

Separating them in time is really an evil act, as many persons drifted back and forth or at least could meet on neutral territory - at DP or some cafe, etc. Larry's book, IMO was very good and interesting and I know he is working now on one on the death of MLK, so in both he is at the margins of how Jack and I and others have defined 'Lancer'. Jim DeE seems to be in that camp and certainly falls into the 'Camelot' camp. [Joan Mellen is not going to be invited to Lancer anytime this side of the sun dying]. It does strike me as interesting that the 'other forum' now seems to be championing Lancer types over COPA types, but is liberal enough to allow a few of the later - as well as having banned some. :bandit:

No surprise Peter, the "other" forum champions lone nuts as well. Simkin is enamored of Conway. I do not need not to be invited to Lancer. I am 100% COPA.
I feel like Lee in New Orleans. The president and only member of my own chapter...and it doesn't even have a name.
