We've had a request from a member to consider establishing a new board about Sports. Especially things such as bribes, match fixing, and other murky things of interest. I was wanting to get some feedback from members if this is something of interest to them.

My personal thought is that there is no such thing as 'Sports' as it has long been turned into a business pure and simple. But I'm interested to see what other have to say.
"Sports" within the context of deep politics?

Great.

But be advised: This topic can spread uncontrollably into inane, radio talk show exchanges.

If you truly wish to do something constructive: Every time my cursor moves over the "Share" or "Bookmark" features, everything comes to a sudden halt until, at its leisure, a small box opens and asks if I want to use features that I've never used and never will use.

This is so frustrating that on at least a half-dozen occasions I've declined to complete my posts.

I know, I know ... No great loss.

But come on, between these two absurdities and the idiotic smiling and jumping icons ...
I know you are not an icon lover Charles :ridinghorseSadsorry, couldn't resist :banditSmile
The 'Share' buttons are for others to share your post elsewhere. But I agree, they are quick to jump up.
And your taste in leisure activities is of a more aesthetic nature. So I'll put you down as a 'No'.

HELL YES!!! IS THERE ANY POSSIBLE WAY TO MOVE THEM THINGS OUT OF THE WAY??? I MEAN FOR THE LOVE OF GOD...

As for a sports section,I'm not real enthusiastic. If someone has a good story,I think that it can be added into an already existing section.JMHO
The degree of cheating and betting in sports isn't limited to professional entertainment; it is rampant in big-income collegiate ventures and more. I could dig out a reference to a web site devoted to ethics and character in sports (number of visits is still low).

From a personal standpoint, I don't have much interest in sports anymore... certainly golf, if you play it, is a great challenge... if you watch it, well.... as my interest is in the mental aspects, the strategy, the issues (psychology) around performance (without helpers), and if someone I know and care about is involved.

Otherwise... not at all.
I'm in favour.

Big sport has been converted into mainstream TV entertainment and is now the plaything of big business and needs to be seen in that context.

Winning and losing are by-products of the show.

Take, as an example, FI motor racing. It must now always come down to the last race in Abu Dhabi. Why? Because Abu Dhabi F1 track and facilities cost £15 billion --- far too much to have the championship done and dusted before it arrives there. Simply because no one would watch the final race because it would have no bearing on the championship.

Multiply this across the spectrum.

Big sport is now a hostage of the same money disease that holds most of us in its spell. It is a deep political subject in its own right.

On the contrary.

I'm voting "yea" if you can keep posters on point: The Deep Politics of Sport.

And again, get rid of the goddamn Bookmark banner! :goodnight:

Or: the deep business politics :bandit: of sport.
Oh, alright, he grumbled (nodding in acknowledgment of the wisdom of the founders), but only if there is an annual calendar of both the F1 cars (with virtual test drives by video) and the F1 girls (test driving not allowed). Angel
This founder is agnostic re a dedicated Sports directory.

However, any such directory would have to include deep political analysis of the highest and most sophisticated level, as epitomized by the following comments by the deeply dodgy geezer who manages the football club I support:

Quote:Redknapp, who is favourite to succeed Fabio Capello as national team manager in 2012, has suggested that England were the victims of a stitch-up.

The Tottenham boss noted how confident Russia were before the announcement, saying: "It was as if they knew.

"We send our Prime Minister over and everybody else goes over.

"The Russians, their Prime Minister (Vladimir Putin) doesn't go. It's as if he knows he's going to win.

"You read we were having meetings until five o'clock in the morning; we're talking to the right people.

"But, obviously, they'd made their mind up. No talking in the world was going to make a difference."

Amazing
Redknapp is adamant that England had the best bid and should have won the vote, adding: "Listen, we all know what's probably gone on. We can't probably say, can we really?

"It was amazing that suddenly two such wealthy countries have ended up with the World Cup there.

"Don't tell me that we haven't got a better product to offer than Russia in terms of football in this country."

England's bid team, which included Prime Minister David Cameron, Prince William and David Beckham, campaigned furiously in the days leading up to the vote.

Redknapp said: "It's like going on X Factor, coming on, doing what you do. You're either good or you're not good.

"It's not a case then you go back, meet up with the judges for a couple of days and have a chat and say, 'You should be voting for me really. I'm a sexy bird, I'll get my gear off for you'.

"What's it all about? You've either got it or you haven't got it and I thought we had it. We had the product."

I'm with Charlie and Keith here.

However, Mr Reasonable, who is highly suspicious of Facebook and Twitter goshiteing suggests a compromise solution: is it possible to move the Bookmark toolbar somewhere else on the page where it doesn't constantly try to sabotage the act of posting?
