A suspected Mafia boss has hanged himself in an Italian jail after being arrested in a high-profile swoop on mobsters, police have said.

Gaetano Lo Presti was found dead in Pagliarelli prison in the Sicilian capital of Palermo.
He had already been convicted of mob-related crimes before his latest arrest in yesterday's operation.
Lo Presti was arrested because he allegedly led a Mafia clan in the Porta Nuova district of Palermo, police said.
He was one of 99 people detained on suspicion of trying to rebuild the Cosa Nostra, which has been weakened by the arrests of its leaders.
Its "boss of bosses" Bernardo Provenzano was arrested in 2006 and his apparent successor Salvatore Lo Piccolo was apprehended in 2007.
Lo Presti and the other suspects were accused of crimes including extortion, arms and drugs trafficking and having mafia links.
Around 1,200 police officers, backed by helicopters and anti-drug units, were involved in the operation.
