In a perfect example of a big media company looking to capitalize on current events, The Walt Disney Company has trademarked "Seal Team 6," which also happens to be the name of the elite special forces team that killed Osama Bin Laden.
The trademark applications came on May 3rd, two days after the operation that killed Bin Laden… and two days after "Seal Team 6″ was included in thousands of news articles and TV programs focusing on the operation.
Disney's trademark applications for "Seal Team 6″ cover clothing, footwear, headwear, toys, games and "entertainment and education services," among other things.
To which I can only respond:

How can one private corporation copyright a public governmental, tax-payer paid name?! I'm gonna copyright United States of America, Central Intelligence Agency and Department of Defense et al., and then charge for the people in them to use their own names, letterhead, et al.:mexican:
Sorry, but your too late, Peter.

The flag is a registered trademark.

Hey, give Disney the benfit of the doubt. Maybe they're planning an animated feature -- you know, like the ones with the cute talking penguins.

Can't you just see precious little harbor seals dressed in battle gear ... going after the "big fish" who, sad to report, turns out to be a red herring?
