My sister forwarded an email from a deaf friend wanting something to communicate with store clerks, etc. Basically, the clerk could speak into his side; the words beamed up and then back to her side in close-caption; perhaps a key-board device on her side, too. Has anybody heard of such a device?
Thanks,

There is probably an app for that. But I don't have an iPhone so can't help there. You could check out the app store and see what they have. Don't forget Android have a good selection of apps too. Might also be worth while contacting an organisation for deaf people and see if they are aware of such an appliance.
OK, thanks a bunch. I feared I was stretching forum rules after posting; should be in other....
As such programs exist for desktops, I don't see why a smart phone couldn't handle that.....it only remains to see if someone has yet written the program, as iPhones use a different processor and instruction set. I'm sure if it doesn't exist, a hearing impaired group could find a computer saavy member or friend of one to write the needed code. Combined with language translation, it would be of great help to travelers too! We are almost to the point with computers where if you can imagine it, one can have someone write the program for it.....both for good and evil.
Thanks for the ideas. I believe I've found something that will work with just a little modification or the right app.
