He wrote an article exposing Operation Mockingbird of the CIA in 1977 in ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE.

Woodward and Bernstein articles in the Washington Post led to the Congressional hearings on the Nixon presidency and his eventual resignation before impeachment. The hearings were broadcast every day on television and radio. It was almost as good as the Army-McCarthy hearings years before.

I agree. Notice we never see or hear from him while Woodward is on the tv and pushing books all the damn time. Mockingbird rewards its own.
The Watergate hearings, while interesting, always stopped short of getting very deep. Came close at moments and I was on the edge of my seat, but was always disappointed. It was dinner theater.

^^ Just like the Iran-Contra hearings. In both cases, the Democrats (with a few exceptions) were only interested in getting enough dirt to satisfy their partisan/personal ambitions, but please let's not look too deep for the whole story. The media took the same route: just enough to make us look like fearless journalists, get the ratings up, but don't expose anything important. This is why it's so easy to keep serious crimes covered up in this country.
