Yes, those are some of the highlights I hit.
The Freeport McMoran stuff is so interesting. Lisa did such a wonderful job with that. And I think I am the first person to use it to any degree in a book like this. Fonzi was the first person to note in in the HSCA files. But those were all classified. Lisa picked up on it through both his work and Garrison's.

I used Newman's book, which never got the praise it deserved, both in my chapters on Oswald, and towards the end in my chapter entitled "Mexico City and Langley".
In that latter chapter, I discovered something that was really kind of surprising even to me, who knew a lot about Garrison.
Garrison was the first guy to actually propose that Oswald did not go to Mexico City. THat he was impersonated. When I read his handwritten memo on this I was really taken aback. Because if you read any of the 1966-67 books, that is Weisberg,Lane, Meagher, Epstein, even Popkin, none of them propose this. Popkin thinks Oswald may have been impersonated at Odio's but not Mexico City. Weisberg actually thinks the CIA did a nice job in supplying the WC with info about Oswald in Mexico City. (Everyone makes mistakes--even big ones. Even Harold.)
But working with just the volumes--just the volumes--Garrison was convinced it was not Oswald at the Cuban consulate or Russian consulate. He is up until the wee hours of the morning writing this hand written memo to Ivon. ANd by the time its over, he actually is proposing sending someone to Mexico City to talk to Duran. And furnishing him with photos of people like Thornley to find out who was really there.
This is in 1968! This was a quantum leap forward in the case. By about a decade.
It got buried of course because of what happened to Garrison, the orchestrated campaign to literally destroy him and actually incinerate his evidence via Harry Connick. (An operation which I detail at length.) And in fact, I am the first person to actually discuss his futuristic Mexico CIty ideas, and its 2012.

For all who have not been refreshed by listening to the complete audio of Jim Garrison's appearance with a very primed and adversarial Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show, 31 Jan., 1968, here's Mr. Garrison's summation from the final segment of that program:
"...I am trying to tell you that there is no question, as the result of our investigation, that an element of the Central Intelligence Agency of our country killed John Kennedy, and that the present administration is concealing the fact. There is no question about it at all...I know it, and if you will just wait, you will see that History will support this as fact."
Mr. Garrison is forcefully declaring, unambiguously, in public, on network television, that an element of the CIA killed President Kennedy.
It was late January of 1968.
The fact that this many years later some extremely serious scholars who've labored over an ocean of declassified documents, scrutinized every syllable of congressional testimonies and investigative reports, awaited decades of incremental improvements in scientific methods and technologies, and persevered in an intellectual war against an entrenched authoritarian bureaucracy which is resistant to free inquiry have come to the same conclusion is rather astonishing.
I'm looking forward to reading your book.

I enjoyed the two-hour discussion of the book and the evidence. George Noory was attentive and informed--had read the book, facilitating the pace.
What a realization, that Garrison sacrificed a stellar political future to pursue his obsession. Helms was determined to make an example and an example he made.
I look forward to such figures as Sergio Arcacha Smith--whom Lt. Francis Fruge of the Louisiana State Police told HSCA's Bob Buras had sewer maps of Dealey in his apartment searched by police (Smith was one of two men who threw Rose Cheramie from the car en route from Miami to Dallas.
John Hunt's work revealed Robert Frazier received the stretcher bullet at 7:30 Eastern from Agent Elmer Lee Todd who arrived forty-five minutes later, having the artifact originally "discovered" on the stretcher not Connally's (per Josiah Thompson Six Seconds in Dallas and Robert Harris The Connally Bullet).
I missed the previous guest who positied Diem as the prime mover of the assassination (take a number: LBJ, Israel, the Mob, Cubans, KGB, oil men, et cetera have been speculated before you).

Thanks Phil. I was surprised that George read much of my book that fast.
We only sent it to him on Monday. But he must have liked it since he read a good deal of it. And he asked good questions. I really liked answering the one about Dulles visiting Truman to get him to retract his editorial since Dulles thought he knew the reason he wrote it was over Vietnam.
If that does not exhibit "consciousness of guilt" I don't know what does.

I read the first four chapters today and they're outstanding. A strong, ominous narrative develops and every observation about how the various Kennedy initiatives rubbed Dulles and his cohorts the wrong way is illuminating and on target. I was particularly taken with the discussion of Angleton and how (a.) he worshipped Dulles, and (b.) the various goings-on led him into contact with Morales and the like at that time. (I haven't read NEXUS yet but see from the footnotes that some pieces of info are from that book). This new edition of DESTINY is going to be a useful volume to return to as I push through reading and analysing the other books and documents available on the case.
