Adrian Gibbs, 75, who collaborated on research that led to the development of Roche Holding AG’s Tamiflu drug, said in an interview that he intends to publish a report suggesting the new strain may have accidentally evolved in eggs scientists use to grow viruses and drugmakers use to make vaccines. Gibbs said he came to his conclusion as part of an effort to trace the virus’s origins by analyzing its genetic blueprint. “One of the simplest explanations is that it’s a laboratory escape,” Gibbs said in an interview with Bloomberg Television today. “But there are lots of others.” more here: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=afrdATVXPEAk Bird Flu as a Weapon? A Bit of History of Biological Weapons - David Guyatt - 24-06-2009 Killing innocents via disease for profit is no different from exporting war for profit, or creating terrible famine as a by-product of exploitation of a nation state. It shouldn't surprise us that this happens in the pharmaceutical/medical industry anymore than the arms industry. But it does. These guys proclaim to be in business to benefit mankind, not exploit it. Que sera, sera eh. Anyway, I'm posting the Horowitz press release (linked by Ed in his above post) in full below. What is beyond doubt is that the revolving door between key vaccine/virus researchers, big pharma and regulatory authorities is a complete disgrace, and an open invitation to fraud and malfeasance. At the scientific level, there is clearly something very strange about this so-called "swine flu" pandemic. Many of its elements suggest that, on a balance of probabilities, the "swine flu" is more likely to have been created in a laboratory than by Mother Nature. We need a Garth Nicolson to examine the molecular minutiae and, if appropriate, blow the whistle. Ideally before the logical implications of NSSM 200 play out.... Bird Flu as a Weapon? Here is the most recent entry: US company makes first batch of swine flu vaccine Posted on June 24, 2009 by niarane A US company that was awarded a 35-million-dollar contract to develop an influenza vaccine using insect cell technology has produced a first batch against (A)H1N1 flu, company boss Dan Adams said. “We turned out our first batch of doses — about 100,000 — against (A)H1N1 flu last week and we’re continuing to manufacture it,” Adams, chief executive officer of Connecticut-based Protein Sciences Corporation, told AFP. The US Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday announced that it has awarded a 35-million-dollar contract to Protein Sciences, which could be extended for another five years to reach 147 million dollars. The insect cell technology “has advanced in recent years to a point that we believe it could help meet a surge in demand for US-based vaccine for seasonal and pandemic flu,” Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in a statement. Continued: http://tinyurl.com/lla7gr Here's another from European labs discover flu vaccines contaminated Posted on March 28, 2009 by niarane If “accidental” contamination is virtually impossible, then intentional contamination likely. Globally-practiced protocols and regulatory schemes governing the handling of pathogens in the research, development, manufacture and transport of vaccines make it virtually impossible for U.S. flu vaccine producer Baxter to accidentally contaminate and export vaccines containing live H5NI (avian) viruses. The implication, then, is that the inclusion of “bird flu” was intentional and shipped all over the world to trigger a pandemic. Baxter’s facility in Austria makes annual flu vaccines but was also developing a human H5N1 vaccine for which a license was expected in the near future. Researchers claim the “serious error” could not have been accidental since it is virtually impossible for live avian flu virus to find its way into a vaccine by “accident”.As health ranger Mike Adams of NaturalNews.com points out, “The shocking answer is that this couldn’t have been an accident. Why? Because Baxter International adheres to something called BSL3 (biosafety level 3)-a set of laboratory safety protocols that prevent the cross-contamination of materials. Laboratory personnel have specific training in handling pathogenic and potentially lethal agents and are supervised by competent scientists who are experienced in working with these agents. …All procedures involving the manipulation of infectious materials are conducted within biological safety cabinets or other physical containment devices, or by personnel wearing appropriate protective clothing and equipment. The laboratory has special engineering and design features.” Under the BSL3 code of conduct, it is impossible for live avian flu viruses to contaminate production vaccine materials that are shipped to vendors throughout the world. This leaves only two possibilities: 1. Baxter isn’t following BSL3 safety guidelines or is so sloppy in following them that it can make monumental mistakes that threaten the safety of the entire human race. And if that’s the case, then why are we injecting our children with vaccines made from Baxter’s materials? 2. A rogue employee (or an evil plot from the top management) is present at Baxter, whereby live avian flu viruses were intentionally placed into the vaccine materials in the hope that such materials might be injected into humans and set off a global bird flu pandemic. Spreading bird flu would create an instantaneous surge of demand for bird flu vaccines. The profits that vaccine companies such as Baxter International could reap out of such a panic are astronomical. “Baxter is acting a whole lot like a biological terrorism organization these days, sending deadly viral samples around the world. If you mail an envelope full of anthrax to your senator, you get arrested as a terrorist. So why is Baxter-which mailed samples of a far more deadly viral strain to labs around the world-getting away with saying, essentially, ‘Oops?’” Adams asked. While public health officials at the time appeared concerned, claiming to investigate the cause for the contamination of flu vaccines distributed to 18 countries, as of March 21, 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) has not released a statement on the Baxter incident. Instead WHO is moving forward with stockpiling worldwide H5N1 containing vaccines in preparation for a global pandemic, the ingredients of which are “proprietary”. It should also be noted that the federal regulators in the U.S. and the affected countries have not commented on the incident nor is there any evidence that they plan to sanction Baxter for its serious breach in security with regard to the handling of such tightly controlled pathogenic agents. (The pdf was created by the folks at IAEM and it has a glitch or two; someday I will get my own.) I worked as a subject matter expert and consultant on the design of a DARPA-funded, USDA-assisted "virtual tabletop drill" intended for a civilian emergency management audience through a leading designer of military-level simulations, a company started by the two software engineers responsible for the development of the TRADOC armored warfare simulators used before Desert Storm, and developers of a desktop-to-desktop 24/7/365 system used by the military to run simulations from squad/tactical level right on through to the top at grand global strategy. The five-player virtual exercise was to have taught civilian systems personnel how to respond to the outbreak of avian influenza. The project was killed by DARPA purportedly because of "financial improprieties" by the leading contractor. Bird Flu as a Weapon?
