Penn Jones, Jr. owned and published The Midlothian Mirror, a weekly newspaper in Midlothian, Texas, about 25 miles from Dallas. He was convinced that witnesses to the assassination were intimidated and in some cases killed. His Mirror editorials began appearing in June 1965 and were later gathered into Forgive My Grief, Vol. I. This is to correct a persistent misrepresentation.
Penn Jones Jr. was the one and only editor of THE CONTINUING INQUIRY newsletter.
There was NEVER a CO-editor, as some claim. Certainly not me nor anyone else.
Anyone who claims to have been co-editor is stealing from Penn.
Penn asked various friends to "volunteer" help in producing the pasteups from materials
and guidance he provided. The volunteers were given free rein to write stories and
make submissions also. It was strictly an uncompensated work of love and respect.
The first several years Cleburne architect J. Gary Shaw did the pasteups and added
stories of some of his pioneering research.
When Gary's architect business load became too great, he and Penn asked me to
do the pasteups and add my research. I accepted and for three years I assisted Penn
in putting together each edition from materials he brought to me plus anything I
wanted to add. He usually had lots of clippings and stories by various researchers
like Mae Brussell and Harry Livingstone. I was free to add anything, which of course
was subject to Penn's final approval. I sometimes used stories from other local
researchers who gave them to me directly, instead of giving them to Penn.
I usually spent an entire Saturday doing an issue for Penn; he picked it up and
read it all, then had it printed if he approved, a few times with minor changes.
When Penn's health began to fail, his new bride Elaine persuaded him that he
should start doing the newsletter again himself. Without explanation he just
quit bringing me the materials, and apparently Elaine produced the final few
issues, mostly xeroxed copies of clippings and repeated photos, with no new
research, since by then his declining health with Alzheimers was forcing him
into seclusion. Gone were all the pioneering research and writing by Penn and
others. It was sad that such a fine publication ended with such a whimper.
We all owe Penn a great debt of gratitude for all the inspiration he gave
later researchers as well as his brave venture where others feared to tread.

Nice letter Jack. Thanks Bernice. I am surprised to read he had Alzheimers. When I heard him speak at my mike in DP [I believe only a very few years before his death] he sounded as lucid as anyone I know and much more 'sane' than all the official lone-nut supporter/backers! What year did he die? I remember his talk in outline. He wanted to address all, but especially those younger, who hadn't experienced the shock and change in the USA of the event. He briefly outlined some of absurd and contradictory evidence. Then he cut straight to the chase and talked about how the lack of resolution; the lack of those who planned it being named and jailed, if still alive, had and was destroying America. He spoke with passion, and tears welling-up in his eyes. I know there was a videographer in the crowd and maybe sometime it will be online. That person once posted, long ago, a list of questions I read as part of the talks given. He was not physically a tall man - but a giant in our pursuit to regain our country and ascertain the truth of what happened 11/22/63 and in related events. Work well done Penn! :congrats:

I had gotten permission to have a parade on the motorcade route in DP - followed by speeches at a set-up PA system just near the GK. Penn I'd not contacted, but was roaming around and came up and very humbly asked if he might say a few words. I was so pleased and honored and, of course, he spoke. He was quite old and frail, but his voice rose to loud and clear. Sadly, I don't have a tape of it, but hear one exists out 'there' somewhere. His speech, I remember, was mostly a warning about what would happen to America if we did not bring the case to some resolution and take the guilty to task.

In John's [Excellent!] book, on page 475 is a small piece of Penn's talk at my podium on the Knoll. I remember now, I had written to him to ask him to speak, but he'd not responded. He found us, however, and asked if he could still speak. The honor was all mine!

I was shocked to hear Professor McAdams state a "factoid" ( as he likes to call them ) during part one of the debate regarding Oswald threatening Eisenhower.

But the FBI found that Oswald was in the Marines at Atsugi during the time that Palmer McBride claimed that Oswald made the threat at Mcbride's home in New Orleans.

Apparently, Professor McAdams didn't know that this "threat" had been "debunked" a long time ago.
