Henry Hurt's book Reasonable Doubt as I recall was published
by Reader's Digest. Robert Easterling told a strange story about
being a conspirator, and Gary Mack debunked it, resulting in
threats from Hurt for a "million dollar lawsuit"...leading Mack
to cease publishing "CoverUps". Some of Mack's finest research
regarded Easterling.

Whether Mack was compromised, scared-off or doing other service for those who want the Truth concealed or confused is not the main issue. Robert Wilfred Easterling was born at Hattiesburg, Mississippi, on 30th June, 1926. After dropping out of high school he joined a rodeo and obtained the nickname Cowboy.
Easterling eventually became involved in criminal activity. In the 1950s he became a safecracker and helped run an interstate car-theft operation. He was arrested and convicted of burglary and bootlegging and spent some time in prison. He later admitted that he got away with the most serious of his crimes, the placing of a bomb on a National Airlines plane as part of an insurance fraud scheme. Easterling also confessed to killing a man who became aware of this crime.
Easterling was arrested in 1964 and charged with safebreaking in Hagerstown, Maryland and Durham, North Carolina. Found guilty, he was sentenced to five years in the Louisiana State Penitentiary. After his release he moved to Mexico City. In 1974 Easterling was committed to a mental institution. The following year he got in touch with the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his knowledge of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Although interviewed by the Secret Service several times between 1974 and 1982, Easterling felt his story was not being fully investigated. He therefore contacted the journalist, Henry Hurt.
Easterling told Hurt that he had been recruited by Manuel Rivera to drive Lee Harvey Oswald from Dallas on the day of the assassination. Easterling claimed that David Ferrie, Jack Ruby and Clay Shaw had been involved in this conspiracy. So also were unnamed members of the Texas oil industry. Easterling also told Hurt that Rivera had been the gunman who killed Kennedy. Rivera used a 7-mm Czech-made automatic rather than the Mannlicher-Carcano that had been planted in the Texas Book Depository to implicate Oswald.
Easterling decided not to take part in this conspiracy to kill John F. Kennedy and instead fled to Jackson, Mississippi. On 21st November, 1963, Easterling informed the FBI in Washington of the plot. He was told they knew of the conspiracy. The FBI agent told him: "We know all about it. We're going to catch them red-handed." You're in too deep. You're going to get killed."
Easterling's story appeared in Hurt's book, Reasonable Doubt: An Investigation into the Assassination of John F. Kennedy (1986).

Jack, sorry to put you on the spot. But I gotta know. When "Gary Mack" (forgot his real name) went over to the dark side and started spewing official lone nut propaganda, was it gradual or sudden? Did it correspond to a significant life event, like getting a job as PR minister of the 6th floor?

his wife divorcing him. It coincided with Readers Digest threatening to sue
him for a million dollars over the Easterling matter and his ceasing to
publish his fine COVERUPS newsletter. Larry Dunkel.

Reader's Digest threatening to sue over the Easterling matter??? Hmmmm. I had several phone conversations and carried on a correspondance with Henry Hurt when Reasonable Doubt came out ( mid 80s). I told him both on the phone and in writing that the Easterling "confession" was nonsence. He told me it was a call from Easterling that got him interested in the case. I found that odd and suspect thinking "now why would a pretend assassin just call up some guy at Reader's Digest and 'confess'?" I thought the book was very good BUT FOR Easterling and Chapter 11 and all the disinfo there, re RJK, JFK and Castro, which is why I called Hurt to begin with.
So I am curious why they threatened to sue and how it ended.
I used to get Cover-Ups and in fact in 04 when I began posting at Ed forum I asked Gary (PM) if he had been involved in that publication and he disavowed it.

Hi Dawn you see it now re the alterations within the Crappy Zappy.there are more to be released :rock:.that's great it takes some studying and comparison...but it is there...BTW Gary Poos real name is Larry Dunkel I was calling him Uncle Dunkel for a bit but when back to the old Gary Poo after his latest doc.. crap...
Here was Jim's latest.sure you have read it....but I certainly hope not the last on Gary's playing the both sides game..He is now walking on egg shells in his self made path, taken quite the while for many others to see it, but they finally have and are..like you can't fool all the peoples all the time but beleive me there are many out there who have and are being controlled by his info...they are blinded by the association they think they have with him..as he uses them poor suckers...:2in1:

hi well no i did not get things worked out really other than as i mentioned the gif does not work it does not move they do not upload here and do so..is there something i am not doing correctly when trying to upload them or as i am thinking is the space allowed for gifs simply too small of an upload area..that is mre than likely the problem they do need the room to do so and enable them to work...ta b:creep:

That is quite a broadside on GM vis-a-vis JR et al! Well worth reading. I really wonder what goes on inside GM's head in moments of reflection, as those of us who know his early work know he knows which side the bread is buttered on, yet seems intent on saying neither side has butter - as the WC and Dallas City 'Fathers' [some of whom I believe were in on the 'hit'] wanted it and want it still. I can understand a hawker for a circus touting that inside this tent there is the miraculous sawing apart of a woman and then putting her back together by the magician, but we are talking about the sawing apart of the little polity and democracy we had - and they never even tried to put it back together - only rip it further from us. Someone who is a hawker for that kind of black magic show is really on the wrong side of history and morality. Sadly.
