Jacky after RFK assassination - Magda Hassan - 17-01-2013

I often wondered about Jacky and Ari. All that happened after the RFK assassination didn't it? He could give some protection. Powerful man with his own intelligence network and out of the US even his own island. It can't be for his looks. Maybe he was charming. Maria Callas loved him. Shrug

Actually it began before the assassination, as Jackie took a vacation with Onassis after she gave birth to Patrick prematurely and he died a few days later. While they knew each other for some time, she was always protected by RFK until he was killed.

I think these are all interesting subjects but this thread should get back on topic and focus on RFK, Jr. and his lighting the fuse that set off the mainstream media on this subject.

This story, as Gary Mack says, "Has legs," and it we will be hearing more about it.

I'd like to know when a transcript of the interview will be released, and when the program will be aired, as it is not on Charlie Rose's web site nor does it seem to be scheduled.

I don't know what exactly she found in him...protection, for sure; and a very private life [mostly on boats and private islands] offshore of the USA most of the time. AO also had his own little army of bodyguards. Maybe he was charming, as well. He certainly was a change from her usual circles or murdered husband. Not much talked about, but confirmed, is that AO paid a LOT of money [not a hard thing for him to do] to hire some of the best PI's and investigators in such things to do his/their own private investigation into the JFK and RFK assassinations. That is why I'm so disappointed some of her notes, letters, diary etc. were not made available after her death. My guess is she knew fairly well the details of what had happened from her own ringside seat during the assassination, and AO's investigations. She likely confided this with her children and we can only hope someday they will speak out, despite the obvious dangers.

Read warily Nemesis: The True Story of Aristotle Onassis, Jackie O, and the Love Triangle That Brought Down the Kennedys, by Peter Evans.

Not a lot of deep political insight in evidence, but revealing nonetheless.

The death of AO's son, in light of the fate of JFK, Jr., draws one's attention.

Thanks Charles. I will do. And it would be interesting to revisit the death of Alexander Onassis.

Yes, Magda, Jackie did marry Aristotle Onassis after the death of Robert Kennedy, Sr. One comment I recall that she made was that "they are killing the Kennedys" and for that reason she wanted to leave the United States to protect herself and her children. And yes, Ari did provide protection and even had investigators examine the John Kennedy assassination. I did read somewhere that she received a copy of their report and wanted to give it to someone, possibly LBJ? but was threateningly warned against doing so. Whether this was true of not, I have no idea, but it seems plausible, and this is what I recall from that time. You may know that she, having been in such a truly horrific event, did experience post-traumatic effects and sought psychiatric treatment for herself. Onassis was a rather crude and rude person, even towards Jackie, joking with his friends about her, and in her presence. His wealth, perhaps, made him more attractive, or at least tolerable. She liked fine clothes, jewelry, and arty things, and she wanted to give her children good educations, so having no major means of her own at the time, marriage into wealth was a solution. After Onassis died, she worked as an editor at two publishing houses, Viking and Doubleday.

Has anyone every tried approaching the Onassis family? The report from the investigations he paid for - which I was led to believe were quite extensive - must exist somewhere. Would make for some interesting reading!

Jacky after RFK assassination - Dawn Meredith - 18-01-2013

Many years ago I read that Jackie actually said "they are killing Kennedys and my kids are next" after the assassination of RFK. Then she married Ari.

That's right, Ari's son died in a plane crash just like JFK Jr. At the time I never though anything of it, people do have accidental deaths, but in light of

the NOT accidental crash of JFK jr it deserves a new look.
