Notice, the story is about various aides and their "doubts" about the veracity of the Soviet files. The opposite may be true i.e. they were protecting the official story from possible revelations or investigative leads that would have driven even more nails into the LN myth. Or made misfeasance on the part of CIA etc. clear.

It's possible to infer from the story that Clinton himself was never consulted about this. Were these "aides" worried that he might have said, "Hell yes, let's get those files and check them out. If Yeltsin gives me his word that they aren't altered or redacted in any way, he'll look pretty bad if we can show that they are. I don't think he'd want to take the risk; I sure wouldn't...."?

Given that Nosenko was sent to tell a false tale of what the Soviets knew about Oswald; and the KGB/GRU must have known Oswald was a false defector; and given that Nagell was at least a double [more likely triple] agent - US and USSR - and knew exactly what was going on with Oswald being manipulated and the coming 'hit' on JFK - the Soviets MUST have very important information on the assassination in their files! To NOT accept and look at it - is to play the three Chinese monkey routine....but this should come as NO surprise to anyone slightly familiar with JFK assassination research. The powers that be know exactly what happened - and always have [as they were, in part, behind it] - and they have tried endlessly to keep that buried from public acknowledgement and verification. The Soviets [now Russians] have had and have their OWN REASONS from time to time it changes slightly to either disclose or not disclose/alter this information. Face it, even without the Soviet data, the USG NEVER wanted to investigate what happened 11/22/63 - only to cover up what really happened!
