EVEN if you THINK you knew who John was and the many things he had accomplished....PLEASE listen!!!...for there are things about JJ you did not know.....We lost a GIANT in the struggle for: Peace, Justice, Truth, Activism, Love, and a better Country and World! Thanks for posting this Peter. I have only watched part of it and will come back to it during breaks over the weekend. We who knew and loved JJ knew him as a dedicated JFK assassination researcher and the heart and soul of COPA but the first few speakers here choose to focus on his all important work with the peace movement.
An ardent anti war activist all of his life. John Judge touched the lives of so many.
Although I have studied the assassination of JFK since day one, I did not venture to Dallas until 1997. My first COPA conference and the first time I met John. Of course his reputation had preceded him. His booming voice, ready smile and incredible intellect were etched into my memory as we chatted at the sign up line for that memorable conference. Year after year he organized several conferences around the murders of our heroes from the 60s. In spite of the efforts to shut down Dealey Plaza on the 50th anniversary John was out there for the moment of silence, in the freezing rain that was fitting for the occasion, and the COPA conference was a wild success. Who could guess it would be his last?
Yes JJ lived an extraordinary life. And will live on through his work, his passion for truth, his dedication to all things peace, and his 1000 percent commitment to the cause of exposing deep political events. Be it the assassination of JFK or the murders at Jonestown, JJ was on it. RIP my friend. Knowing you has been an honor.

Thanks Dawn, I've watched it twice, and likely will listen/watch parts of it yet again. John, as I've said elsewhere on this forum, on the thread about his death, was a friend, a research colleague, a teacher, and someone I admired. He was also one of a literal handful of persons who steered my life towards deep political research.
What a loss! He did, however, in his life do more than most others ever even dream of doing along research and progressive action lines. A full life, well lived!
He left the rest of us enormous empty shoes to fill...and that need filling!
There were a few persons I expected to also speak there who did not, but perhaps there were some special reasons they couldn't attend; but those who spoke captured much of John vividly.
Personally, I would like to see his Museum of Hidden [Truthful] History to become a reality and to have a library based on his own one...and if some of the remaining library of Mae Brussell can also be added, that would be even better - as Mae had entrusted them to John.

Assassination as a Tool of Fascism
[The following is a transcript of a talk given by John Judge at a one-day conference entitled The Fourth Reich in
America. A transcript of the entire conference, `The Fourth Reich in America,' is available from Flatland Books,
P.O. Box 2420, Fort Bragg, CA 95437.]
BRETT McCABE: I would like to introduce now, a man who is very well known as an independent
investigator and author. He's worked for 20 years to expose U.S. government involvement in mind
control and murder. John Judge has also investigated the history of Fascism and political
assassination and cover-up from Nazi Germany to John F Kennedy to Jonestown, Guyana. He works
to expose US plans for concentration camps and genocide, here and abroad. He has had articles
published in Critique, Utne Reader, Madness Network News, and Overthrow, and has spoken on
these topics on radio, television, and in public forums since 1968. So, without wasting any more time, I
introduce to you, John Judge.
JOHN JUDGE: Thank you. I started this work, really, in a sense, when I started to visit the
Pentagon library. My parents, my mother and father, and my aunt who I lived with, worked as
civilian employees in the Pentagon, and they used to take me in when I was a kid. And by the
6th grade, I had a 12th grade reading level, because I went to this private school, where they
kind of pushed us. So they would drop me off in the library for the day, and I used to go
through the stuff in there, because I was, you know, 10-11 years old, nobody seemed to care
much what I was looking at. And I found it pretty interesting.
And one of the things I figured out back then, because I was interested in UFOs, was that they
were really government spy craft, and not extraterrestrial craft from some other place. And for
those of you who wanted them to be extraterrestrial, maybe a few of them were. But most of
them were a Nazi secret weapon that was developed in the aerospace caves outside of Berlin,
and seen by GIs when they came in, along with the jet engines. And it was a technology that
was kept secret. Like William S Burroughs says, `If this was the Middle Ages, and Magellen
was an American, and we sailed around the planet and found out it was round instead of flat,
we wouldn't tell anybody so we could attack from the rear.'
So, I really began the research and the work there. And I like to research, I like to read. And I
would go to these cocktail parties in my neighborhood around Christmas time, and the guy
across the street sold all the weapons to Howard Hughes, and the next door neighbor was
CIA, and two doors down was NASA, and those were my neighbors in Falls Church, VA
when I grew up, and they would get a little stewed, and they'd talk about business.
And I thought it was all pretty strange, but I didn't have any reason to question that there was
a secret government, because I lived with that secret government. And you get Bill Moyers
now, and he tells you, `Well, there's a legitimate government, but from time to time, to do a
certain job, they hire a rather unseemly crew, and sometimes they get a little out of control
and make trouble.'
I'd suggest it's the other way around: that the real government are the people that are doing the
killing, and that they hire the people in the three piece suits to stand up and make you think
you've got a democracy in front of you. Don't you think that's what it is?
See, because the real government kills people, and that's part of how it stays in power. Now, if
you go back to the period at the end of the Weimar Republic, in the late `20s and the early
`30s, before Hitler rose to power, you'll find a pattern of political assassinations.
It's depicted, interestingly, in Ingmar Bergman's probably least distributed film, The Serpent's
Egg. And, the people that begin to die are the labor leaders, the political activists, the
musicians. The people who might have an effective public voice, and might stand against the
Fascism, begin to die in large numbers. And the German police admitted that these were
political assassinations. But they said they couldn't solve them. They couldn't make the
historical link to what was happening, or they could but were paid not to, like many of the
investigations that we have now in this country: They couldn't solve those murders.
They couldn't hook them to the most obvious suspects, which were the members of the
Freikorps from World War I: the trained and paid assassins from that period, who were
helping to pave the way for Hitler, and for the end of the political opposition there. And there
was plenty of it. I mean there was quite a bit of socialist/communist organizing in that period.
Marx's vision of the world was that the first countries to make the change would be these
industrialized countries, like Germany, and so most of the people that were continuing the
Bolshevik revolution in those years move foreward with that.
The idea of the political assassinations and their origins really go back to 1918. Not that no
one was killed earlier; I certainly don't suggest that. But in terms of what we're dealing with in
the current period, most of this is a reaction to that revolution, to that change of power there in
Russia, and in some of the other countries, in that period of time, in the early 1900s.
And in response to that there were monarchists, there were industrialists, there were people
that owned a tremendous amount of wealth, both here in the United States and in the
industrialized countries in Europe, who had a vested interest in reversing that. Just as Reagan
seems so focused on changing the situation in Nicaragua, there were people then who had
very definite reasons not to want that kind of social change (that would redistribute wealth, or
privilege, or power, to the extent that it did, or was able to) to happen where they were. They
wanted to maintain their privileges.
And they had societies, they had groups that they formed. One of them was the Solidarists,
made up of a link between the emerging Fascists and the neo-Nazis. Another core of
reactionaries existed within the Vatican and the Roman Catholic Church: Opus Dei, `The
Work of God,' was newly emerging on that scale. And then another group that had been
known as the Knights Hospitaliers, that were the military arm of the Church during the
Crusades, who became the Knights of Malta. And these were lay aristocracies within the
Church. People that still believed that there shouldn't have been a Counter-Reformation, that
thought that the Inquisition should have continued. People that used flagellation and hair
shirts for prayer. People sort of like the Christian Right that we talked about earlier today,
with a few more excesses, and a lot more money.
And, it was in the interests of these people to have stories about visions of the Virgin Mary
coming, to Fatima, in the early 1900s and telling them that God was against communism, so
that the Church would be against communism, and take up that struggle.
Elements of the state, and elements of the rich, and the monarchies that still existed, formed a
bond of interest. And, in large part, one of the motivating people who went around and
collected their monies and their energies, in order to reverse the revolutionary change in
Russia, was Herbert Hoover, who spent actually more time in Europe than he did in the
United States. He was also later responsible for the formation of the ideas that led to the
National Security Council and the National Security State.
And part of what happened was that the Romanoff treasury, which was stolen and secreted
out of the country, was then turned around along with money collected by Hoover and these
monarchists and others to finance the rearmament of Germany, secretly, from 1918 to 1932.
And it's that rearmament that then gave them the impetus to set up the drive to essentially get
back the Soviet Union. And only because that drive was defeated at tremendoushuman cost -
about 20 million lives in Russia and those countries, some of the worst killing went on there,
and the civilians also, but tremendous cost - they were militarily stopped in 1943.
And, at that point, a different position was taken by some of the Allied countries. There were
divisions within the class as to how much money should have been expended on these
Fascists. There were others there who supported them, but it was time to regroup. It was time
to back off a little, to try to get what they had together. The resources were more or less
expended in the effort to set up a permanent war economy, which Charles Wilson from
General Electric talked about. And to go into what they called the `Cold War,' or `low
intensity warfare,' and genocide against Third World people, while they continued to build the
empire and maintain the hegemony. And to re-establish the Fourth Reich, the Fascism, not
only here in the United States but throughout the world.
And part of that involved moving those Nazis all over the world. Moving those Fascists. And
not all the Germans were Fascists, and not all the Fascists were German. There were Japanese
Fascists, if you remember. Some of them seem to be still in control today. There was a kind of
veiled threat, recently, from the Prime Minister of Japan, that the forces that operated in
World War II hadn't forgotten what the US did to them; and that they were ready to rise back
up if we didn't stop messing around on these trade issues for the international exchange. So
the threat of them, you know, is still there. We talk a lot about Nuremberg, but much less
about the Japanese war crime trials.
And it's known now, for instance, that when MacArthur's group went in, they found evidence
of the POWs being experimented on with chemical and biological weapons by the Japanese.
That they let all the scientists that did those war crimes off the hook, in exchange for the
information that they could give them about how the weapons worked. So that, to them, was a
fair trade.
Many of those scientists, many of the munitions and aerospace experts, many of the spies,
(about 300 of them, in fact, under General Reinhard Gehlen, who had headed up Hitler's
intelligence network for the east and the Soviet Union) were brought, from 1943 up until even
more recently in the present day, into the United States and into other countries around the
world, South Africa included. There's quite a bit of collaboration between the South African
government and World War II Fascists and Nazis. But the Fascism was an indigenous
problem in many, many countries. It didn't just exist in Nazi Germany. There were groups of
Fascists that the Nazis were able to use in many countries as collaborationist governments.
And the real hidden history of World War II was, in fact, the defeat in many places of those
forces by more progressive elements. By people who were, out of reasons of patriotism, or out
of a more progressive political philosophy, bound and determined to take back some freedom.
And that's a history that hasn't had as much play as the standard version of the Allied powers:
these empires getting together to defeat these things, the actual struggles of the resistance to
Fascism in the different countries and what role that played.
Assassination was always a tool for them; not only the mass death, but the individual death of
the people that could make a difference, of the politicians that might make a change, of the
people that stood in the way. And they perfected those techniques, and those techniques were
brought here and used in the United States. So that when Mae Brussell did her work with the
Warren Commission, and I spent several years reading the volumes and going into depth (and
I went through about 300 cubic feet of material in the Archives). We found those people in
the Commission Record. In key places. And I'll just talk to you about a few of them, so you
can get a sense of who these people are that I'm talking about, and how they would play in.
One important one is an American, in fact, an American Fascist by the name of John J
McCloy. McCloy was a Rockefeller banking lawyer. I saw Marcel Ophuls who did some of
the films on the Nuremburg situation, The Sorrow and the Pity, and Memory of Justice, at a
public talk. And someone came up and asked him about McCloy, `Is he connected to the
internationals?' And Ophuls said, `It would be more accurate to say the internationals are
connected to him.'
There was a very good article some years ago in Harpers about him, `Minister without
Portfolio,' that began to go into his background, all the way back to the 1920s when he was
sent over to Germany to check about World War I sabotage activities, and ended up friends
with some of Hitler's early cronies, and met Hitler, and stayed in that area for some time. He
was connected to Sullivan and Cromwell, a Rockefeller banking firm that kept its German
investments going even after the mass deaths of the Jews started in Germany. They had
investments there that they didn't want to back off from.
And McCloy eventually got into a position in the government where he was the Under-
Secretary of War. Somebody pointed out to me earlier that 1947-1948 is also when we
changed from `Secretary of War,' to `Secretary of Defense.' And just that little word change is
enough propaganda to make clear what's happening.
John J McCloy, among other things during the period when he was Under-Secretary of War,
was responsible, along with Earl Warren and a fellow named S Dillon Reed, for the set-up of
the Japanese concentration camps in the United States and the internment of Japanese, not
German or white peoples, but Japanese people here. A lot of them lived out here in California,
and you may know some of the history of the different concentration camps that were out
here. People lost their property and their money. McCloy still speaks openly against any
reparations for those people, and believes it was proper that he had them locked up and treated
the way that they were during the war.
And it's interesting also that he worked on that with Earl Warren, who later shows up along
with McCloy on the Warren Commission, to study the investigation of John Kennedy's death.
He's one of the main members of the seven member Committee that helped to cover up the
death of John F Kennedy.
John J McCloy also, in his position in the government, blocked efforts by the Jewish
community here in America to have something done about the Nazi concentration camps. We
knew they were there, we knew where they were. The Jews wanted the camps bombed, or
they wanted the railroads going to the camps bombed, something, to stop the progress of the
machinery of death in the Jewish community there. And his response at the time was that it
would lead to `reparations against the Jews.' One has to wonder what they could have been.
But he refused to go along with those plans.
And then after the war, when we came in militarily, we set up a fellow named General Lucius
Clay, who also cut deals with many of these top Nazi elements. And then Lucius Clay's
military occupation government was replaced by a transitional, but civil, government of the
Allied powers that would then lead eventually into the earliest postwar German government.
And who oversaw that transition? McCloy, as the High Commissioner of Germany. In that
position he reversed some of the few convictions that happened at the Nuremberg trials. Only
eight war criminals were sentenced to death for all the destruction that was done in that war.
Only eight. Some were given prison sentences and almost all of those were out within a few
years, in large part because of McCloy's intervention.
Of course, the trials were also undermined. One of the key people that undermined evidence
and lost witnesses in that trial, working with the US Army, was later to go on into the
International (Red) Cross, International Rescue Division. And that was one of a number of
agencies; the Vatican also had a line for this, that provided false identification to the Nazi war
criminals to help them move internationally. And that International Rescue Committee is still
dominated by CIA and right wing elements. But at that time they were providing the
`Glockenspiel,' the false identity cards. And then this fellow who moved into that position
came to Texas. He was with a CIA front, a foundation called M Anderson, for many, many
years. He was the special liaison between the Texas police investigation and the Warren
Commission investigation of John Kennedy's death. And in that capacity he blocked any
effective local study of the death, or local news from getting to the Warren Commission.
And there were a number of years when he was with Anderson. We don't hear of him. And
then he reappears as the `most trusted man in America,' according to the press during the
Watergate fiasco, in order to pardon Nixon. His name is Leon Jaworski.
OK. So these people move throughout the history. So I'm trying to give you some feel, or
some examples, of how these people move. McCloy pardons all these key Nazis. He pardons
Krupp. He pardons Dorhnberger. And these other top people are off the hook because of his
intervention. And then, not only do they come here, but he continues to function right up to
the current day. I mean Reagan, at the time he went to Bitburg, had a White House ceremony
for some of them. The German government came and gave these awards to John J McCloy for
his excellent work there in the period when we were supposed to be de-Nazifying Germany.
And in fact, we were leading to the Nazification of the world, including America.
Another example would be that scientist I just mentioned, Walter Dorhnberger. He was a
General, and he was responsible, essentially, for helping Werhner von Braun and the rocket
program get whatever it wanted during the war. He was also responsible for being part of the
administration of the Dora concentration camp, where Jews and other slave labor were
worked to death building, at a tremendous pace, these V1 and V2 rockets that were being used
against the civilian population in England. And there were heinous examples, besides the
level of the labor and the forced labor, of public hangings and other types of war criminality
there at Dora. And all these people nowadays either aren't asked ... I mean, I think they've got
one sentence in one piece of footage of Werhner von Braun, our fabulous rocket scientist,
talking about Dora, saying some little piece about the conditions in the mines, you know, ` ...
weren't that bad.'
The fact is, they were there. They were in an administrative capacity. But because after the
war we wanted their expertise, we brought over a thousand of these scientists and their
families. They were down in Huntsville, Alabama. I don't know if you've ever been there. The
Chamber of Commerce is named after Werhner von Braun. It has big pictures of all these
Nazis and their families with their hands up, taking their oath of American citizenship. And
they're proud of the Nazis they brought in. I guess to get 2 on the moon it's worth 30 million
dead, huh?
One of them built the Saturn 5 rocket, and only just recently got chased out of the country,
much to the chagrin of Lyndon LaRouche and his crew who are fighting to get him back in.
That's Walter Rudolph, who helped to get us to the moon. And without them, these Nazis, we
wouldn't have done it. Of course they say they weren't `ardent' Nazis, whatever that means.
They weren't involved in the war crimes. But they were there, they were in the position to do
something, to speak out. And when asked they say, `Well if I'd spoken out, I would have been
in the camps with the Jews myself. So what could I have done?'
And Dorhnberger was actually scheduled for indictment. The British prosecutor, Shawcross,
said that he ought to hang. He was suspected of having worked, not only at Dora, but with the
`Butcher' at Auschwitz, at the Auschwitz concentration camp. And instead, when Werhner
von Braun got here to the United States, he said that he wouldn't do any work on our rockets
unless we saved his mentor, his old friend, Walter Dorhnberger. So McCloy and Lucius Clay
intervened on his behalf and he was brought directly to the United States. And first, he got a
job in Huntsville, I think at Mussel Shoals, with NASA for a little bit. And then he got into a
position that he kept for many, many years, where he headed up the helicopter systems
division at Bell Aircraft in the Dallas/Houston area.
And it was in that position that he hired, during the 1950s and `60s, a top-ranking military
intelligence agent by the name of Michael Paine. Michael Paine had a wife, Ruth Paine, and
the two of them were very tight with the White Russian Solidarist community that lived in
Dallas, many of these White Russians. And I say the history of these Nazis dates back to the
time of the [Bolshevik] revolution. They're disaffected. Many of them worked with the CIA
and other spy agencies, and Paine's family had connections with them. They went to a White
Russian Orthodox church there, in Dallas, that was built with monies from the Cummins
Catherwood Fund from Philadelphia. One of the blue-line families out in Philadelphia,
Cummins Catherwood also funded the Cuban Aid Relief for the Bay of Pigs survivors, who
were intimately involved in the assassination.
It was at that church that meetings happened, in the Christmas of the early `60s, between the
Paines and the Oswalds. And it was the Paines that housed Marina Oswald, out in Irving,
Texas. It was the Paines, along with Marina, who were some of the few people to testify to the
idea that Oswald owned a rifle. It was Ruth Paine that got Oswald the job at the Book
Depository, in October, and placed him, in part, as the patsy there. It was her friend, Roy
Truly, who lied to the police, and said that they had taken a roll call and that Oswald was the
only one missing from the building at the time they came in to find the so-called assassin.
Even though everybody else looked in a different direction to where the noise had come from,
up on the Grassy Knoll, the police ran to where they were supposed to, to the School Book
Depository.
So when you scratch the surface of how they set it up, who told the lies, who engineered the
`patsying' of Oswald, you find these people with the connections to the International Fascists.
Werhner von Braun, knowing that the Russians, the Soviet troops, were going to come into
Berlin, packed up shop at Dora, where he was building the rockets. He moved into
Switzerland, leaving a trail for US Intelligence, that had contacted him and other scientists
months before in something called Operation Overcast. When he got up into that area,
General Thurston, who was in charge of the military takeover for that sector, followed
through with the arrangements to have him and several other scientists arrested and brought to
the United States.
The person who actually effected the arrests, the physical arrests, of Werhner von Braun and
the rocket scientists, the Paper Clip boys (they called it Project Paper Clip, to bring these
people in) was the aide-de-camp to Thurston, a fellow named Clay Shaw. Years later, Jim
Garrison attempted to indict Clay Shaw for his involvement in the assassination of John F
Kennedy. And Clay Shaw, among other things, was on the board of directors of a firm called
Permindex, which had offices at that time out of Canada. Where they were doing training,
along with British Intelligence, of assassins all during World War II. It was work that
involved, among other people, Ian Fleming. And in fact, Ian Fleming's character, James Bond,
is a real person that lives in Philadelphia and is very close to the Cummins Catherwood
family.
So whenever I began to look, I found these little nests of snakes. They intertwine, you know,
they lock together, and their histories coincide. They send each other books and messages.
They know each other. They get each other jobs.
Another person with connections to the Nazis, who was very instrumental in the assassination,
is George DeMohrenschildt. He came from a reactionary family in Russia. His father was a
top level employee of the Nobel oil family, which was like the Rockefellers here, prior to the
[Bolshevik] revolution. They lost their fortune there. His brother, Von DeMohrenschildt, was
jailed by the revolution for a period. When they got loose, they went to Germany. They
helped the Fascists set up. Von went into the CIA-funded Tolstoy Foundation, which was a
center for the White Russians during the whole period. And George DeMohrenschildt was an
oil engineer. Among other places that he worked, and was close to, was Kerr-McGee (he was
tight with Mr. Kerr), where Karen Silkwood was later killed by the Industrial Security
Command guards. That Defense Industrial Security Command was running Mussel Shoals
and Huntsville, Alabama, when the Nazis arrived.
You see, it just goes over and over, back and forth. You can find the connections if you start
with the evidence. If you look to see who are these people, who do they know, how are they
funded? And I saw it not only there, but throughout the other assassinations. Who were the
top lieutenants in Jonestown? All were tied in with the Nazi money, with the International
Fascism, the training, or the movements of the Nazis themselves. I wanted you to see this
before I quit. This is a documentary film made by a fellow named Bob Groden. He worked at
Life magazine, in the photo department, when this film came from Dallas. This supposedly
`homemade' film was made by a fellow named Abraham Zapruder, who was a bystander that
`happened' to be standing near the Grassy Knoll filming the motorcade go by. And he caught,
on this little piece of film, supposedly just by accident, the assassination of John F Kennedy.
The reason I'm making all these secondary comments is that we found out when Abraham
Zapruder died that he's a White Russian. That he was from that same section there in Minsk,
where George DeMohrenschildt and Marina's family came from. Marina's uncle was a highranking
military officer in the NKVD, but her family was White Russian and anti-communist.
And Gehlen infiltrated a lot of the KGB and Soviet military and intelligence structures during
the war, and left agents in place. There's reason to believe that a number of people that were
involved with Oswald, even in the Soviet Union, also tie to this International Fascism; and not
to the idea that Oswald was some kind of a KGB agent. He was a Naval Intelligence
operative. He had crypto clearance. He travelled around with the U-2. And he was a U.S. spy.
He was sent to defect falsely to the Soviet Union.
He [Oswald] got out of the Marines (you try this) because a box fell on his mother's nose nine
months before. And the letter documenting her nasopharyngitis (which means it was swollen)
condition arrived 4 days after the discharge. But the number from the discharge sheet
appeared a month before, on his passport out of the country, you see. So he was set to go.
And he was sent by the military, because there were no civilian flights when he went from
Helsinki into the area. Nothing but a military flight could have explained his passage.
Also, when he was ready to come home, he'd met Marina four times in his life, and he
married her the fourth time he met her. And then he took her out of the country. But of course
they could get her to lie. Because she still didn't have her citizenship in `63, they could have
sent her right back. And so what they had her do was say that she didn't speak English, and
she spoke Russian. And they brought in George Bouhe and Raigorodsky and these other CIA
translators. And in case the translator didn't translate the Russian just right, all the people
stenotyping at that point, taking minutes, were on maternity leave from the CIA.
And then, of course, all the lawyers asking the questions were chosen in a meeting, the
minutes of which are still buried in the National Archives as `National Security' matter until
2039. But I'm sure they weren't chosen just because they were under A's or B's in the phone
book.
It's like when James McCord, a 21 year top man, operative with the CIA, gets caught at
Watergate because he puts a second piece of tape on the door (that's what he calls his book, A
Second Piece of Tape). Well, you know, if you go down and find that somebody's removed
the tape, you've got to cheese the operation and get out of the building. He puts another piece
of tape on, and when Wills comes around on the second round, he has to report it. So
McCord's in there to make sure they get arrested. His guy Baldwin, across the street, doesn't
warn anybody. But when McCord needs a lawyer for Watergate, he goes out and he gets this
guy Bernard Fensterwald, who heads up something called the Committee to Investigate
Assassinations. Which he uses the mnemonic, the CTIA. I wrote him a letter and said, `You
know, in mnemonics, pronouns don't get a letter. It's really CIA, isn't it Bud?'
And then it comes out in the Watergate hearing that McCord was donating money to the
CTIA. You know, he's a `conspiracy nut' too, I guess. Or else maybe the CIA was paying
Fensterwald to find out what everybody knows. Sherman Skolnick challenged him, in 1972,
at a meeting. He said, `You know, when a CIA guy gets sick, he goes to a CIA doctor. When
he needs money, he goes to the CIA bank. When he needs a lawyer, he goes to Edward
Bennett Williams, doesn't he?'
After that, Fensterwald was the lawyer for Paisley's wife, the guy who drowned in the drink,
in the Potomac, and was part of the Nysenko briefing; a CIA agent. Although they say he
committed suicide, he put diving weights on (if this is true), shot himself in the head, threw
the gun overboard, and then leapt to his death. Skolnick says he drowned, 'cause all the water
rushed in the hole in his head.
I was looking for an article this morning, about a suicide that was actually reported in the
press from Baltimore: Where a guy committed suicide, get this, by hitting himself 38 times in
the head with a hammer. And the police were there, demonstrating to the press how he might
have done it. Thirty-eight times, what a headache. My best one came over the news about a
year ago. They said the police had determined suicide in a case where the body parts were
wrapped in a bag. And the bag was tied from the outside. I mean, Houdini's got nothing on
this guy. So when you look at the pathology, which is what I do, and the nuts and bolts; the
bullets, and what direction do they go, and where do they come from, and who shot them -
just the police work - that's all you have to do. That's all you have to get. I mean, they hide it
from you a little bit, but you can piece it together. Then you know, that it didn't happen the
way they told you.
I mean, when you go into the evidence of the John F Kennedy assassination, you'll find that
Oswald didn't own a rifle; he didn't own a pistol. He didn't fire a gun that day. There were no
nitrate samples on the cheeks or on his palms. He didn't shoot a gun. He didn't kill anybody.
Then you go to the witness testimony and the photographic evidence. And you find out he
wasn't on the sixth floor and couldn't have gotten down the stairwell to the first or second
floor to be buying a coke, when the cop stuck a gun in his stomach in the first round of
interchange a few minutes after the shooting. Seven people saw him watching the motorcade
go by, on the first floor, as Kennedy was being shot. And we have a photo, James Altgen's
photo, of him standing in the doorway. Of course, the Warren Commission said it was
somebody else. But all you have to do is compare that guy's description of his shirt to the shirt
that Oswald has on there, and the one he's got on when he's arrested. It's Oswald. You can tell.
I'm not a photo expert, but you can see his face, hairline, and everything else is the same. He
was what he said he was: a patsy.
And then, even if you say he's up there, and shooting with this Mannlicher-Carcano, the
bullets can't do the damage. And it's the same thing every time I look at it.
The Robert Kennedy case is the same. I noticed that they even use the same language when
they testify. There's this phrase they use. They say, `The bullet is consistent with having been
fired from the weapon.' Now that's not a ballistic term. You know, ballistics can tell you
pretty much, as long as they've got the bullet relatively intact, whether it came from that
specific gun. Because of the scratches on it, the rifling, and what type of bullet it is. All that
`consistent with having been fired from the weapon' means is that the bullet is not too big to
get through the barrel. The caliber is either equal to, or smaller than, the gun caliber of the
barrel. It won't get stuck.
And the way I finally realized that that didn't mean anything was in an affidavit in the Sacco
and Vanzetti trial. Where the sheriff testified `Yes' when they asked him was the bullet in the
guard at Braintree consistent with Sacco's gun. And he said that it was. And then he filed an
affidavit later, saying that he didn't want to be misunderstood; that he was instructed by the
judge to answer just `yes' or `no' and that all he meant was that the bullet would get through
the barrel. But that same phrase is in the Robert Kennedy trial transcript, it's in the Warren
Commission ballistic evidence.
Just to take one more example: When Reinhard Gehlen came here, many of his 300 operatives
were funnelled through a section of the Defense Department known as the Army Historical
Division. Because they, especially George Patton, were busy hiring Nazis to help them write
the official history of World War II. So both Nazi war criminals and Nazi historians were
channeled in through this, and then fed into the beginnings of the CIA, which was formed by
Gehlen and his organization. And into Radio Free America and Radio Free Europe. The
engines of the National Security State and the Cold War logic were a lie.
When the Warren Commission investigators had finished their work and they went to write
the Report, they didn't take any of the attorneys or any of the people that they had, essentially,
already bought off to do a phoney investigation. They wanted to make sure there was nothing
in that Report that would go wrong. And when I went into the Archives, about 300 cubic feet
of the minutes from the meetings were notes, voluminous notes, from those 5 different staff
investigative teams to the Warren Commission, in relation to the final report which they had
read. And the notes say, `What's the basis for this conclusion? What's the evidence for this?'
Line after line. Even the liars couldn't go as far as the author of the Warren Commission
Report had gone. But the report went out intact. Hale Boggs asked in one of the meetings
whether they should print any of the evidence. `I guess you know,' Boggs said, `It might look
a little fishy if we didn't.' `Go ahead and print it,' Dulles said. `Nobody will read it anyway.'
And Boggs said, `A few of those people out there know how to read.' I doubt he meant me,
but here I am.
And when you do read it, you can find it out. But the person that actually wrote the report is a
fellow named Otto Winnacker. He was on TDY, transfer from the Pentagon to the Warren
Commission, to do that job. He was also, historically, one of 26 official historians of the
Reich who worked directly under the Reichschancellor, Adolph Hitler, and was brought here
into the United States.
When Gehlen finished setting up the CIA here, he went back to Germany and helped set up
the postwar German, NATO, and French Intelligence structures that rule the reactionary
politics in those countries and in Europe today, and that command our constant military
presence there. Forty years after the war's supposed to be over.
He was replaced in large part, at that point, by Otto von Bolshwing. Otto Albrecht von
Bolshwing, who had been Adolph Eichmann's superior at the Hebrew desk for the movement
of the Jews and the Final Solution and the killing and the planning. But he was never tried in
Nazi Germany. He was just allowed to slip through the cracks, like many of them, and ended
up here, in the United States. He helped form a corporation called TCI, with Edwin Wilson,
Helena von Damm, and with other people connected to the intelligence agencies, as one of
many front companies out here in California. When it went bankrupt, it sold its largest
subsidiary to Albert Hakim and Richard Secord. And that subsidiary became Stanford
Technology Trading Group, and Trading Group International. These were their fronts, during
that time.
And the financing, if you remember, of [Oliver] North's operation, was through Credit Suisse.
Well Credit Suisse was set up as a bank, in the 1940s, as the funnel and conduit for
Permindex. It was the banking firm to take care of Permindex's international operations.
And just recently, when I was reading Tennessee Waltz by James Earl Ray, where he names
the person in Canada that introduced him to the mysterious character Raoul, who set him up
as the patsy. He says that that's a person named David Gravier. Well David Gravier is an
international financier, connected to American Banking and Trust, which itself is a major
subsidiary of guess who? Credit Suisse. Where did he [Ray] meet him [Raoul]? In Canada,
where Permindex was located. See, so you'll find the connections going back to certain firms,
certain cover.
The current world cover for the training of these assassins, I believe, is an evangelical rightwing
organization known as World Vision. Among its employees at the Fort Chaffee Refugee
Camp it was running for Laotian, Thai, and Vietnamese refugees was a young man named
Mark David Chapman - responsible for the death of a very political musician who could have
brought a million people out in response to Reagan's war efforts in a single day, named John
Lennon.
Mark David Chapman had military training. He was in Beirut, interestingly enough, when
military training was going on there by Wilson and Terpil. And he moved to Hawaii, worked
for the large military firms. You'll remember he took a military stance at the time. The
chairman of the board in those days of World Vision was none other than John Hinckley, Sr.
The funding for World Vision was, primarily, during the Vietnam period, CIA directly
funding it. They now still admit 5% coming through USAID, which was the cover. And they
operated in all of Southeast Asia, collecting information on Laotians, Cambodians and others
under the cover of this missionary work. They were in charge of the refugee camps at Sabra
and Shatilla when the Fascist Phalange came in and killed the Palestinians.
They are in charge of the refugee camps, along the Honduran border, for the Central
Americans, where the Contras are allowed to go in and actively recruit. They run the physical
operation in the camps for the Cuban and Haitian refugees here in the United States. And it
was at those camps, you remember, there were riots. Well part of what started that riots was
that they brought into those camps a political education program that if you didn't attend, you
didn't eat. And the people that ran that program for the Cubans were none other than Alpha-66
and Omega-7, the Cuban reactionaries left over from the Bay of Pigs invasion.
These international refugee communities they started in the `50s (I went back to their earliest
populations) were really just attempts to manipulate people that were in Communist countries
who were reactionary and were running from the situations or the changes in those countries.
Refugee populations are expendable; they're manipulable. Part of the history of Jonestown is
the history of refugees, `cause a lot of the reason they went to Matthew's Ridge is that they
wanted cheap labor there.
But I found the same names cropping up, the same modus operandi, the same monies, (and
I've only named a few of them), throughout not only the major assassinations (the Kennedys,
Martin Luther King, the Chappaquidik incident, where Ted Kennedy was set up and Mary Jo
[Kopechne] was killed, the murder of Jessica Savitch, a number of these situations I've
worked on), but also many of the witnesses that died (75 strange witness deaths in John
Kennedy case, 80 each, or around that, each, in both Martin Luther King and the Robert
Kennedy, another 35-40 strange deaths connected with Watergate, the Second House Select
Committee on Assassinations). And a lot of the people that we knew were involved in the
original research started to drop dead. There's people dropping dead now, during the
Contragate investigation. It's a constant pattern: the witnesses are wiped out.
And when you go into the specifics: who did they know, or where they were, who was around
them, or who helped set them up, you will find, I believe, (if you do the work, and I
encourage you to do it on the things that you're interested in) people that have connections to
Navy Intelligence. That's the central place where these people operated from, on the
command level. You'll find people otherwise involved in the US Intelligence agencies. And
you'll find people either with direct ties to Nazi Germany or with connections to current
Fascist International networks that grew out of that period.
But those Nazis came here. They formed our foreign policy. There's a couple of new books
out. If you haven't had a chance to see them, you should get them. This is by Bower, from a
British publisher. It's called The Paperclip Conspiracy, and it's about the hunt for the Nazi
scientists. There's an earlier book by Clarance Lasby, Project Paperclip that's very good, but
these are recent ones, with some new information.
And this very good book by Chris Simpson. All these still miss pieces, or perspective, but this
is called Blowback, which is an Intelligence term for negative effects from a covert operation;
America's recruitment of Nazis and its effects on the Cold War.
All these things are available. It's not impossible to get this information. I think you need to
focus a little bit.
What I'm suggesting is that there's this history of the Fascism moving; that assassination has
been its long-term technique for certain political purposes; and that it's time you took a look
around you. Because they are killing us. They're not killing all of us. But they're killing
people not just at the top government levels, but all the way down to the activists and the
people who are going to try to make a difference.
Which is not to me, again, an argument not to try to make a difference. Because they can't kill
us all. Or if we don't do anything, they will kill us all. So you see, it's one or the other. But to
me, there's really no choice.
If you stumble across Auschwitz in the 1940s, you're either going to go home, and be a `good
German' and use the soap, or you're going to speak up. You see, you're going to speak up and
you're going to have the horrible fate that Walter Rudolph didn't want. You're going to
become one of the excess population; one of the untermenschen, one of the expendables.
But I'd suggest that, given the reality of the economy, that most of you here in the audience
are that already. My obeisance to the FBI and CIA agents here; you probably have a good
paycheck still. But I would think that most of you are not in such a secure position. And this
economy is not so long for the world, in terms of taking care of everybody. If you haven't
looked around you on the street lately, there's a depression out there, and that's what a
depression looks like.
It's interesting too that a lot of those homeless people are Vietnam veterans. About 70% of the
homeless on the East coast, in fact, are veterans. Which is an aspect that's been ignored,
besides the suicides, tremendous unemployment rates and long-term problems, because these
wars are genocidal wars. They have a little different technology, they drop the oven out of the
air instead of picking the body up and putting it in the oven, but it's still genocide.
If the little countries of the world, where we are pushing ourselves around, could get into a
court and tell what we've been doing there, it would not look so different from the Nuremberg
trials; in fact, I suggest to you that it's worse.
My friends say to me, `If it's Nazi Germany, who are the Jews?' Well the Jews are the Central
Americans. Some of the Jews are still the Jews if they don't have enough money and prestige
and aren't being used for the current time in the reactionary processes. Women. The
disenfranchised. The first people that Lori [a previous speaker] mentioned that were killed:
the psychiatric inmates are certainly an expendable population. The institutionalized people:
the elderly, children in institutions, prisoners, and people in the military. The veterans are
guinea pigs; after they get out of all that military stuff they're just used by the system further.
So there are people dying every day. And if you don't add up the deaths, you don't get the
right total, you don't get the sense of what's happening.
And then they say to me, `Yeah, but we don't live in terror. We live good.' Well if you were a
good German and you went along with the program and you looked the other way when they
came and got the neighbors, you lived good too. They were looting the whole world like we
are. We're 6 percent of the population, consuming 60 percent of its energy, 30 percent of its
raw materials coming right here, into this society. All this wealth doesn't come from out of
some magic well in Kansas marked `Capitalism.' It comes from tentacles of exploitation of
labor and resources all over the world. And because we exploit those societies, they're in
worse shape and we're in better shape.
There's enough to go around. There's no shortage. There's surplus, in fact, if it weren't being
used for war; and weren't being diverted into cash crops instead of growing food, everyone
could eat, everyone could live comfortably. In fact, probably on a third of the budget they
spend on warfare in the world. There is a surplus; the surplus has to be manipulated in order
to disappear.
But there are populations, Rand Corporation studied them. In `68 they did a study saying that
half of the world population, over two billion people, had to go, in order to make it
economically comfortable for the elites. They studied setting up martial law in many countries
where it came to pass: the Philippines, Yemen and South Korea, Vietnam, Canada even, and
eventually the United States.
How do you set up martial law here? You do it with a terrorist scenario. I'd suggest a nuclear
terrorist scenario. You have Abu Nidal, who's really Oliver North in drag. They say I'm
paranoid. I don't have an eight foot security fence around my house. And he's working
internationally with the people that financed Nidal. It's not mano a mano, it's have him over
for dinner. That fence is up for us, in case we figure out who Ollie North really is and what he
did to us.
You have this so-called `terrorist,' you know, the guy with the pop gun that terrorizes you.
The nuclear weapons don't terrorize you, the state control doesn't terrorize you, the massive
death and genocide that goes on in your name doesn't terrorize you. You don't know who the
enemy is, and so you're afraid of a guy on an airplane with a pistol. But that's a terrorist, and
you're shaking in your boots, and now they are going to be said to have a nuclear weapon. So,
`Oh well, what can we do? We have to suspend civil liberties. We have to put people in
camps. We have to do whatever is necessary in order to stop this "threat".'
So you come up with a scenario that's good enough, and then you move. And they have the
plans, they know how to move, they have it down to the neighborhood level. If you buy the
lie; if you don't identify who's oppressing whom and who the enemy really is. Believe me,
you are not in danger of Abu Nidal, or the PLO, or whoever the Terrorist of the Month is
supposed to be. Your life is not hanging on a hinge. Yeah, maybe if you travel internationally
all the time you'll be on the wrong plane at the wrong moment. But I doubt most of you are jet
setters.
The threat comes from someplace else. And even the people who take over the plane, in my
experience, have ties to these same military intelligence networks. But they kill people. And
at the same time it is possible to expose how they do it; and to break the cycle of the lies; and
to catch up with it; and to understand who's assassinating whom, and how. Because the
techniques work and they use them over. They're not that hard to figure out, once you
understand the personnel and the pattern.

HEAVENS GATE, JONESTOWN, AND MASS MEDIA FABLES
An Interview With John Judge

John Judge belongs to the Coalition on Political Assassinations

research into American "deep politics." He has looked into the various political
assassinations here in the U.S., and has special expertise in the so-called "mass suicide" at

John Judge was interviewed by Sherman Skolnick of the Citizens' Committee to Clean

SHERMAN SKOLNICK: You have been an expert on Jonestown. Do you see an analogy
between it and Heavens Gate?
JOHN JUDGE: Certainly I don't believe, having worked on Jonestown and many other
purported "mass suicides".... There never has been a mass suicide in human history -- I
don't mean a family, or two, three or four people which might decide, in a strained
moment, to commit suicide. But anywhere over ten, twelve people, you're stretching the
bounds of imagination and human capacity. The brain, regardless of what it decides, is
only perhaps at best 2 to 3 percent of the cells of the body. And the other cells have their
own interests and will revolt. No one could kill themselves by putting a plastic bag over
their head, for instance, because their other cells would force them to tear it off,
regardless of what they're thinking. People can discipline themselves: like Buddhist
monks who immolated themselves, over a long time, under great oppression, as part of a
struggle. But when you're talking about, basically, American middle class white youth,
and expecting that they're all going to sit and kill themselves in some way in a group, I
don't find it credible.
Regarding the Jonestown murders, a grand jury there ruled that there was not a single
suicide at Jonestown. And even with Masada, which was the alleged Jewish mass suicide
under Roman siege that's supposed to have happened in about 79 A.D., when I looked
into the historical record, Josephus, the Roman historian, admitted that only a few of the
Jews had killed themselves -- the vast majority were slaughtered by the Romans.
I just don't think that this idea of people under no attack or stress would do it. And they
had the people in Jonestown primed: they had them totally isolated, they were drugged,
they were beaten, they were harassed, they were openly raped and abused, buried alive
for periods of time as the disciplinary program there, they were harangued 16 hours a
day, worked and exhausted to death. [But still, at least according to the grand jury, they
did not commit suicide.]
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: Were some of them working at the local industry? They had a
number of mines and such near Jonestown.
JOHN JUDGE: It's a very rich mining area. I think, at the time, they were still clearing
the area around Jonestown. I saw no reports that they did actual mining work. But that
section up there, Matthew's Ridge, was one of the richest gold deposits on earth. There's
also uranium and bauxite, all of the connections to the river and railroad and airport.
Union Carbide reportedly had an investment in that same area.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: You thought it was some sort of espionage operation.
JOHN JUDGE: It was absolutely an intelligence operation. Jones himself and his top
lieutenants all had connections both to U.S. Military Intelligence and to the Nazis.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: The other thing is that they seem to have corrupted state and
federal authorities. From the United States, they had different checks sent to these people,
which then ended up in Switzerland.
JOHN JUDGE: They deposited money in Swiss banks. They took people's fortunes, but
the money from these indigent people they oppressed (who were primarily poor people
off of the welfare rolls, out of mental institutions, children given to them as wards of the
court, going back to the period in Ukiah, California) were not the source of the wealth,
which came to something close to $2 billion by the earliest reports.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: And the money disappeared from the Swiss accounts?
JOHN JUDGE: It disappeared from the hidden Swiss accounts with the help of Terry
Buford and Mark Lane, who reportedly went there and emptied the accounts before they
were assessed.
Mark Lane was a lawyer for Jim Jones at the time. He's been a lawyer for many of the
people involved in these situations. He's the lawyer, currently, for John Hinckley, and
was the lawyer for James Earl Ray, for a period, and served as the lawyer for Lee Harvey
Oswald until Margarite, the mother, fired him about 2 weeks in. He's inserted himself
into many of these operations.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: What do you think about the Heavens Gate situation? (Of
course, it's too early to know much about it.)
JOHN JUDGE: Here are the clues that I think are the most important. First of all, these
people were living rent-free in a $1.5 million pleasure mansion. And the mansion was
owned by an Iranian. The Iranian who owns it had been in trouble with the federal
authorities within the last year, because he was bringing Iranian students into the United
States and securing fraudulent student loans for these people. And the federal authorities
had caught up with him on that.
Secondly, there was a person named Ian Spiro who, ten years ago, was a member of this
[Heavens Gate] group (which has existed for 22 years.) Ian Spiro is alleged to have
murdered his wife and three children and then killed himself by drinking cyanide in a
remote desert location.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: That was in 1992.
JOHN JUDGE: And it's reported that he [Spiro] had what they called "connections" to
the fringe of Middle Eastern intelligence and espionage.
There are people that are computer programmers in this mesh.
These two people that led this -- Mr. Applewhite and Bonnie
Nettles -- were in the news in the 1970s, on national news. Walter Cronkite had them on
the news talking about giving up all their goods and going to another planet, and the
UFOs. And they were known as "the two" back then. The press was calling her "Little Bo
Peep." And I remember (I've not had time to check it) that Mae Brussell discussed these
people on her tape, and discussed what she believed was an intelligence connection to
this operation.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: So these people that died there, or were murdered there...
JOHN JUDGE: I think they had to have been murdered.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: They swallowed up their family money, as happens with some
cults?
JOHN JUDGE: Presumably they were cut off from their families. And normally the
pattern, and the pattern these people were asking early on, was for people to sell all their
possessions, their houses and everything, and give the money over, to reach (you know)
"spiritual perfection." I think it's also very unusual that the males had been castrated.
[CN: "surgically neutered," but by whom.] But it makes little or no sense that these
people are all on their back, they're wearing new clothing, they're all in exactly the same
position.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: Similar to Jonestown, in some ways.
JOHN JUDGE: Yes. The Jonestown bodies were all face-down; it tells you the bodies
were placed.
There were large vans there. It was reported a Ryder truck, an airport transit van, a Ford
Econoline van. And it made me wonder whether the bodies had been brought in: killed
elsewhere, over the 6 to 7 day period.
When the authorities were checking the stuff on the web site, they said the addresses go
nowhere; phones ring in hotels.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: We cannot assume that all 39 were computer programmers.
They claimed they had some business going, but I wonder: none of the authorities have
mentioned any records, any money. They claim that someone who was an agent for the
property got about $10,000 a month in cash. Where did all this come from, and how was
it accounted for?
JOHN JUDGE: Certainly they didn't have a thriving business on the web. They had a few
clients, apparently. And then these other web sites, which when I went to them included a
statement about why they were opposed to suicide. And that they expected to go up into
these flying saucers and their bodies as vehicles, are psychobabble. And they have key
words: they mention Ruby Ridge, they mention Waco, they mention Masada. I don't
know even if these are web sites of the group; they may be planted, in order to spread
disinformation.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: What do you think that this was?
JOHN JUDGE: In any intelligence operation, you always go for multiple bonuses.
Obviously, for some reason these people were to be murdered. Their silence had to be
secured, or they wanted to use the incident as, in order to influence some kind of social
policy. There were two things that were being discussed almost immediately: one was,
censorship of the Internet; the other was, whether people have the right to die and
whether they have a right to be assisted in the suicide.
This was at the time, early on, when they were saying that Applewhite was still alive.
Now they're saying that Applewhite is among the dead. But they had the I.D.s right from
the beginning and it made me wonder whether Applewhite is, in fact, among the dead.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: In other words, Internet and euthanasia were some of the
subjects put and debated by the established media.
JOHN JUDGE: And the spokesperson when CNN ran these issues right from the
beginning of the reporting was a person by the name of Gerald Post(sp?). And he had
been on Crossfire five days before the [Heavens Gate] incident, arguing the "necessity,"
that "Internet was full of conspiracy theorists spreading hate and it had to be censored."
His credentials that they gave were, he was a professor at George Washington University,
and among the topics that he taught was a class in political psychology -- psychological
operations. And this guy, Gerald Post, was much more visibly and correctly identified
during the Gulf War, when he commented on CNN and other media as an open agent of
the Central Intelligence Agency, whose specialty was domestic psychological evaluation.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: And he had a connection with Heavens Gate?
JOHN JUDGE: Only in the sense that, on the first day, he was the first official
spokesperson.
And you have to take a close look at all the people that are commenting. Also, the story
about the one person who quit the cult: "Rio" is the only name given so far that I've seen.
They're hiding his identity. But he's alleged to have quit the cult 5 weeks before this
happened. And then he turns up also as the person who discovers the bodies and reports it
to the police. And this is classic for a provocateur. In other words, if it was an intelligence
operation, he is the most suspect and they won't identify him. But he worked with this
guy -- Nick Matzurkis I believe the name is? He runs some sort of a computer gaming
industry. And Matzurkis also subcontracted Heavens Gate to his client, so he's involved
with their business affairs. [CN: Matzurkis(sp?) received 2 computer disks in the mail
from Heavens Gate around the time of the supposed mass suicide. The disks were not
material from their supposed web site. Matzurkis has placed the disks in a bank safe
deposit box and last I heard had not revealed any of the contents.]
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: In other words, some of the first people that showed up in the
media were known commentators on CIA domestic operations.
JOHN JUDGE: Yes, there was an expert who worked for the CIA, an expert on domestic
psychological operations. And the spokespeople are always important in these situations.
At Jonestown, the first two national spokespeople that said it wasn't unusual that all these
people killed themselves were Dr. Joly West, UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute (part of
MK-ULTRA), and also Dr. Robert J. Liston, who along with Dr. West wrote the original
books about the Korean brainwashing, as a lie to cover up chemical and biological
weapons used in Korea and also to establish the need of the United States to do mind
control.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: So Heavens Gate may be another CIA/MK-ULTRA operation,
like Jonestown.
JOHN JUDGE: I believe so. I think that there's enough discrepancies in the facts. The
story that this Nick Matzurkis has, that Rio spoke to him and said he thought they might
be killing themselves: he said he got the message on Tuesday and alerted Matzurkis, but
they didn't go down to see what's happening until Wednesday.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: Are you going to write up something?
JOHN JUDGE: I am working with some other people to potentially write something
about this.
I believe that they were murdered. I don't believe that any group of people... Even if you
could convince yourself in a rush situation, somehow, to kill yourself when there's no
imminent external threat, I don't think you would keep convincing yourself over 6 or 7
days.
It's quite likely that there were more people in the compound that left after the murders
were done as well.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: The one who's played up these type of UFO with Hale-Bopp
stories is Art Bell, who is a cousin of Warren Buffet. Warren Buffet is some type of
dope/espionage person in my opinion, whose fortune is very questionable -- sort of like
Robert Maxwell.
JOHN JUDGE: I know that the story of the UFO following the comet, which has become
part of this legend (as to what these people were doing and why they killed themselves at
this time, supposedly), came from an amateur astronomer who called the Art Bell show.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: Art Bell is spread out all over, onto major radio stations that
would not find your comments or mine acceptable to go on the air. And all of a sudden,
Art Bell and his "UFOs in your backyard" stories are being promoted all over the place.
JOHN JUDGE: I've had no media calls although I did the original work with Mae
Brussell on Jonestown. I've had many calls, though, from individuals around the country,
asking what I thought about the Heavens Gate situation because of the work that I have
done.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: Is it also possible that because of the Clinton White House
scandals escalating, that this is to make a diversion?
JOHN JUDGE: There are certainly other much more important things going on,
including the move by Dexter King and the King family to approach James Earl Ray, to
try to re-open Ray's trial. And that was dismissed this morning on NPR by Daniel Schorr,
saying that "the Kings were just feeding into a new movie by Oliver Stone." Stone does
want to make a movie of the book, *Orders To Kill* by William Pepper, who was a civil
rights activist with Dr. King. An excellent book.
When you take the level of integrity and courage it took for the King family to come
forward and call openly for a trial for James Earl Ray, and all you can do is smear them
and dismiss, I think it borders on being racist on their [NPR's] part.
We have a national campaign going on right now to petition the appeals court to act
quickly: to test the rifle, to re-open the trial. We're going to have William Pepper and
perhaps Dexter King at our conference here in June. And we also have a national
campaign to free the 650 to 700 thousand pages of still-classified documents.
The last time that there was a public statement by Coretta Scott King was in the 1970s,
that she believed that there was a conspiracy in the case. And the reason it came out was
that James Earl Ray's attorneys had won a remand of the case. And the press had asked
the Kings what they thought. And within a two-week period, in which King's widow
made that first and only statement blaming a conspiracy, two of the main family members
were killed. First the brother, A.D. King, was found fully clothed behind the house, in a
swimming pool, drowned. A man that didn't swim and didn't like to go in the water.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: And then King's mother was murdered.
JOHN JUDGE: That's right, and then the mother was murdered in Ebeneezer Baptist by
Martin Wayne Chenault(?). And they were both witnesses to the physical wounds on Dr.
King.
The person who did it, Chenault, was linked to a guy that called himself Abraham Israel
-- he had different names he used. His real name was David Hill. He was from Cleveland,
but tied to Field Marshall Cinque of the Symbionese Liberation Army.
Chenault joined a group called "The Troop or the Truth." And they had a list of civil
rights leaders they were going to kill. And they were programmed killers. He came out of
there grinning like Arthur Bremer [convicted of attempted assassination of George
Wallace], and he asked, "Did I hit anybody?" And he had a gun in his hand. They did no
ballistic or autopsy work on Dr. King's mother, to find out if there had been a second
assassin, whether Chenault was just a patsy in there popping the gun off to take the
blame. He was put into prison, but David Hill then disappeared from Cleveland and
founded something called "Hilltown," which was about 20 miles from Jonestown, in the
bush in Guyana. And he claimed to have 8,000 American Indians and blacks there, and
he worked to ensure elections for Forbes Burnham, the CIA plant that took over the
country.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: Your coalition, the Coalition On Political Assassinations,
holds conventions or conferences from time to time.
JOHN JUDGE: We do an annual conference, and we also do a regional conference every
year in Dallas around the anniversary of the JFK assassination, November 22nd.
SHERMAN SKOLNICK: You do everything possible to keep this before the public.
JOHN JUDGE: Yes, we do, although there is very definitely a press blockade of this
material. Almost despite anything we do, we can't get coverage. Even an hour on C-Span
would get us national attention.

Almost since its inception, the successful revolution ip the
Soviet Union in 1917 came under attack.[1] The Romanov family was
spirited out of the country, along with the royal treasury.[2] The
monarchists, the White Russian counter-revolutionaries, and the
colonial powers of France, Germany, England, and even the United
States saw the great wealth of Russia as a prize worth regaining
or winning.
From 1918 to 1932, that royal treasury, as well as funds from rich
monarchist families, international investors, and U.S. investors
led by President Herbert Hoover, poured into the secret plans for
the military rearmament of Germany.[3] Monarchists from around the
world, and White Russians began an international network of
reaction known as the Solidarists. Inside the Vatican, relying on
an alleged apparition of the Virgin Mary at Fatima who warned the
Pope about the fall of the Tsar, powerful forces worked to assist
in toppling the new Bolshevik rule.
A group of the most fanatically conservative elements of the
Catholic Church, men who still supported the inquisition in Spain
and who used flagellation as prayer, formed a lay order known as
Opus Dei, the Works of God.[4] These were joined in rank by the
ancient military order of the church ' the secretive Knights
Hospitallers, or the Knights of Malta.[5] Their ultimate objective
was the downfall of the new Soviet government. No method or means
was too extreme, so these forces backed and helped to create
Franco in Spain, Mussolini in Italy, and Hitler in Germany. Some
of the U.S. firms continued their financial trade and support of
the fascists throuphout all of World War II, with Russia as the
target.[6]
But the fascist offensive failed at Stalingrad, though the cost
had been enormous, with 22 million Soviet citizens dead. At this
crucial turning point, they retreated and retrenched, adding to
their ranks the embittered revanchists of Eastern Europe, the
"cold warriors" and Klansmen of America, and even worse elements.
From 1943 forward, plans began to escalate the "cold war" of
propaganda and paramilitary spying into the nuclear exchange of
World War III.[7] Still, no other goal was so important as the
"recapture" of Mother Russia into monarchist and fascist hands.
But now they had also added the perspective of the eugenicists and
the "scientific" racists of the Third Reich, who saw most of the
non-white world as expendable.[8] The term "useless eaters" was
applied by the Nazi doctors to their concentration camp victims,
and later by former CIA director William Colby to the peoples of
Mexico.
Add to this international fascist cabal the following sources of
power: Kameradenwerk, Die Spinne and Odessa -- the secret webs of
Nazi SS men and mass murderers who escaped justice after the war
and found a home in Europe, South America and the obliging United
States.[9]
Project Paperclip -- A successful American operation which brought
to the U.S. literally hundreds of top aerospace and munitions
experts from Nazi Germany to form the corporate leadership and the
expertise behind the technological and military advances of a
growing military-industrial I complex.[10]

Belarus Brigade -- The dreaded combined forces of Nazi and White
Russian troops in Byelorussia during World War II, a
counter-revolutionary stronghold since World War I and a
Nazi-infested army against Russia. The top government officials,
nearly 300 of them, were brought to the United States and given
important government and intelligence jobs by our thankful CIA and
OSS.[11]
Dictatorships -- Arisen in South America and throughout the world
whose fascist rhetoric and genocidal direction come directly from
Nazi collusion and training, not historical chance.[12]
The Gehlen Network -- A black orchestra of spies whose infamous
dealings during World War II had put the Nazi spies in bed with
every major intelligence network in the world from British M15 and
M16, to the American OSS and the heavily infiltrated KGB.[13]
Under the evil genius of Allen Dulles, whose espionage attacks on
the Soviet Union date back to the 1920's, $200 million in
Rockefeller and Mellon funds was directed into the hands of
Hitler's spymaster Reinhard Gehlen and his 350 Nazi spies, who
formed and founded our Central Intelligence Agency in 1947.[14]
Later, these same forces created post-war European intelligence ,
our Defense Intelligence Agency, our Na tional Security Agency,
and covert groupings here and abroad whose very initials are
considered classified information.[15]
Assassins -- An international fascist network of terror, congealed
in the grey underworld of Mafia murders, drug trafficking, gun
smuggling and political murders worldwide.[16] These mercenary
armies still draw their ranks from the refugees encamped
everywhere, still operate with names like Alpha 66 and Omega
7, [17] AAA or DINA, the Kuomintang of Chiang Kai Shek, the
Somocistas along the Honduran border now, the Hmong peoples of
Laos and the reactionary ranks of the Vietnamese, the Phalangists
in Lebanon, and even the Grey Wolves of Turkey whose members
include Mehmet Ali Agca, the attempted assassin of the Pope now so
falsely accused of working with the Soviet KGB.[18]
Interpol -- An international police intelligence agency begun at
the end of World War II in collaboration with Nazi war criminals
and our own J. Edgar Hoover of FBI fame.[19]
These elements meet internationally under the aegis of
organizations like the World Union of National Socialists, the
Asian People's Anti-Communist League, and the World Anti-Communist
League. Their cover is provided by "journalists" like Claire
Sterling, [20] and Marvin Kalb of Opus Dei.[21] Their legitimacy
and recruiting is aided by evangelical fronts like "World Vision,"
which runs many of the refugee camps and includes John W.
Hinckley, Sr.[22] They draw their funds from the illevl and
profitable world heroin and cocaine trade, [23] and their training
from CIA experts like Mitch WerBell, Edwin Wilson, Frank Terpil
and unreconstructed Nazi torturers who provide 'lechniques." [24]
Their weapons come from an equally lucrative gun smuggling trade,
assisted by intelligence agencies.[25]
This is the real historical framework of current events, that
follow from "cold war" to "COINTELPRO" and "CHAOS," [26] from the
framing of the Rosenbergs to "Operation Garden Plot," [27] from
Alger Hiss to the "Houston Plan," [28] from McCarthy to
"MK-ULTRA," [29] from the Third Reich to the Fourth. What the
demon Dulles brothers engineered, [30] the massive cold-war
lie [31] that justified any excess in the direction of fascism, is
the root of Malcolm X's statement on Vietnam, that "the chickens
are going to come home to roost." Under the current rubric of the
World Anti-Cummunist League," [32] the Solidarists, the Nazis and
other fascists, the reactionary forces in every part of the globe
unit to bring us a legacy of deception and murder, of war profits
and starvation, of open dictatorial rule. Their now

three-quarter-century-old goal of crushing the Soviet revolution
has brought us to both financial and physical ruin, and to the
brink of World War III.[33] To attain that goal, fascism has come
home to roost.[34]
During World War II, the Nazis in France gained collaboration and
capitulation by going first to the task of corrupting the courts,
compromising the judges, and turning the slim hope of judicial
justice into a political weapon.[35] In our own country, the most
respected Justice of the Supreme Court was unable to solve the
obvious case of conspiracy in the assassination of President John
F. Kennedy. The primary role of the state police has become spying
and suppression of legitimate attempts to challenge the
undemocratic and secret rule of the national security state.[36]
The purpose of the law now is to put the protection of profits
above people at all costs, even to the point of police destruction
of the evidence necessary to reconstruct the crime.[37] Do you
think we are in some better or more holy condition in our own
courts today? What special sort of American chauvinism leads us to
blindly assert "it can't happen here?" For it has.
In a recent editorial in the Boston Globe, dated February 14,
1983, we can see the delayed reaction of the established press
shortly after the extradition of Klaus Barbie, [38] the Nazi
"Butcher of Lyons," from Bolivia to France:
Barbie is only one of many notorious Nazi leaders who
were welcomed like prodigal sons into service with
Western intelligence agencies after the war. Their
unspeakable crimes against humanity were implicitly
forgiven and conveniently forgotten. They were paid and
protected so that they could return to active duty in
the anti-Communist crusade which their fuhrer, Adolf
Hitler, had temporarily discredited with his extremism.
Their names compose a rogue's gallery of fascist
thuggery. Hitler's master spy, Reinhard Gehlen, was made
chief of the Western German intelligence agency (BND)
and shared his Nazi intelligence data with his
protectors in the CIA. Otto Skorzeny, a Nazi specialist
at organizing terror networks in occupied countries, was
employed in the U.S. Army's historical division, which
served as a way-station for former Nazis who would go on
to serve in the Gehlen-CIA intelligence network.
Skorzeny used his tacit immunity to shepherd old Nazi
comrades out of Europe, working through cover
organizations, known as Odessa, Kamaradenwerk, and Die
Spinne.
As the years went by, Gehlen, Skorzeny and their network
of old-boy collaborators accumulated enormous influence
both In Europe and Latin America. Skorzeny shuttled
between Franco's Spain and Peron's Argentina, where he
served the Argentine dictator as a gray eminence. His
goal was to foster the growth of a fascist Fourth Reich
centered in Latin America.
He could count on such loyalist operatives as Josef
Mengele in Paraguay, on Adolf Eichmann and Hans Ulrich
Rudel in Argentina; on Walter Rauff in Chile; and on
Klaus Barbie in Bolivia.
Rauff, who is charged with sending 97, 000 Jews to their
death, has served as a revered adviser to the fascist
dictatorship imposed on Chile by Augusto Pinochet after
the overthrow of Salvador Allende, and was instrumental
in setting up the infamous Chilean secret police agency
known as DINA. Barbie, in Bolivia, organized
paramilitary death squads and drug smuggling networks

for a succession of military r6gimes.
To grasp the full meaning of Barbie's belated
appointment with justice, his career may be seen as an
emblem of the unchecked metastasis of fascism. It is
particularly mortifying for Americans to be reminded
that our government put Barbie on its payroll a few
years after he worked for Hitler.
Erhard Dabringhaus of U.S. Army Intelligence sheltered this mass
murderer, paid him $1700 a month to run a spy network in France,
and helped him escape to South America. "I am a good American of
German extraction and I did my job," he said recently from his
position as a German history professor at Wayne State
University.[39] These people, and those who aided them, have
names, addresses, and connections to the top levels of the United
States government. They figure prominently in the hidden history
of our police-intelligence state, and in the rash of political
assassinations and other crimes that keep it in place. The names
of the men most responsible for bringing them here read like a
roll call of the world establishment, and those who collaborated
with them fit together like pieces of a puzzle in decoding events
since World War II.[40]
Allen Dulles -- Who collaborated with Gehlen's spies, headed the
CIA, and later sat on the Warren Commission investigation of J.F.
Kennedy's death.[41]
John J. McCloy -- A High Commissioner of Germany after the war who
pardoned key Nazi criminals like Krupp, Abs, Dohrnberger, Schacht,
and others.[42] His long career has made him a "Godfather of the
American establishment." He sat atop the World Bank, directed
construction of the Pentagon, worked with Earl Warren to set up
the Japanese concentration camps in America, blocked any military
attacks on the Nazi death camps as Assistant Secretary of War. He
stopped the summary execution of Nazis in favor of the Nuremberg
Trials which he later thwarted, and also sat as a member of the
Warren Commission.[43]
General Lucius Clay -- The military commander of Germany at the
end of the war, Clay helped undermine the prosecution of Otto
Skorzeny, and later worked with Nazi generals at Oberammergau to
train Eastern European revanchists, Nazis and American GIs into
the 5,000-strong "Special Forces" against communism. This team
later became our Green Berets.[44]
Henry Kissinger -- Worked with General Lucius Clay at
Oberammergau, and then with key stateside Army Intelligence and
CIA units responsible for bringing in the Nazi spies.[45]
Kissinger, who came from Germany to join U.S. Army Intelligence
during World War II, had as his "mentor" the mysterious Fritz
Kraemer.[46] Kraemer's 30-year silent career in the Pentagon plans
division includes the prepping of Alexander Haig.[47] It may also
conceal his real identity -- prisoner #33 in the dockets at
Dachau, the special Lieutenant to Hitler, Fritz Kraemer.[48] Mr.
Kissinger still relies on his advice, and did so while Secretary
of State.
C.D. Jackson -- Joined Nelson Rockefeller and Richard Nixon in the
scheme to bring the Byelorussian government here. He worked for
the Henry Luce publishing empire, and for Life magazine when they
published the doctored photos of Lee Harvey Oswald holding a
rifle. Both Time and Life were owned by Luce, and were responsible
for much of the cold-war propaganda that allowed the national
security state and the Pentagon to grow untouched.[49]
Richard Milhous Nixon -- Former President whose work with Navy
Intelligence at the end of World War II included the importation
of Nazi criminals through the Gould family estate on Long Island.

Among them was Nicolae Malaxa, whose collaboration with Hermann
Goering was apparently no problem for Nixon, who defended Malaxa's
U.S. citizenship.[50] In fact, a special bill was introduced in
Congress to secure the citizenship by Senator Pat McCarren of
Nevada. McCarren and Senator Joe McCarthy later introduced
legislation to set up "detention and internment camps" in the U.S.
in times of war or national emergency for "internal
security." [51]
Other figures involved in this dirty little secret connect to the
highest levels of our government and intelligence agencies. The
solemn pledge to end the Nazi régime was completely betrayed.[52]
Instead, the British and American spies saw a more important
function, that of finding a new common enemy. The cohesiveness and
control offered by this scenario seemed to urgent and so appealing
that they even considered creating the illusion of an enemy from
outer space.[53] For the less inventive, the communist revolution
still served as suff icient scapegoat, and historical target.
Frank G. Wisner -- An official of the OSS and a CIA veteran who
brought the Byelorussian government here, the Latvian Thunder
Cross, the Hungarian Arrow Cross, and the Roumanian Iron Guard
among others. As many as 5,000 came to work at Radio Free Europe
and Radio Liberty, the CIA, the Voice of America, the Defense
Language Institute, "for the United States in defense of
liberty.[54] Allen Dulles said of Gehlen, "He's on our side now."
Bobby Inman of the NSA and CIA networks today admitted recently
that these fascists were "the bedrock" of covert operations in
Europe in the 40s and 50s by the CIA, and molded the
anti-communist policy there.[55]
J. Peter Grace -- A scion of the Grace fortunes, he is currently
head of Reagan's commission to study domestic economic cuts.[56]
For 30 years his company employed Otto Ambrose, a Nazi war
criminal from the German drug cartel I.G. Farben. Ambrose, a
chemist, developed "Zyklon B," the actual gas used in the chambers
to kill the Jews and others deemed "inferior." [57] The German
steel group, Flick, which has extensive Nazi ties in the past and
whose scandals are rocking German politics today, hold a
controlling stock interest in the Grace company.[58] The Grace
family is intimately involved with the formation of the
anti-Communist American Institute for Free Labor Development
(AIFLD).[59] AIFLD played a key role in the Kissinger plan to
overthrow Allende in Chile, and insert the ruling fascist
Pinochet.[60] After the coup, which involved American Green
Berets, [61] Kissinger sent a Mr. Rauff from the State Department
to advise the newly formed Chilean secret police (DINA). Rauff had
been in charge of the "mobile ovens" used to kill Gypsies and
Jews, homosexuals and political dissidents in Eastern Europe for
the Nazis.[62] These same forces were later involved in the
assassination of Chilean diplomat Orlando Letelier in Washington,
D.C.[63]
Helene von Damm -- Personal White House appointment secretary
long-time personal secretary to Ronald Reagan, she stands to be
appointed Ambassador to Vienna, and controls all cabinet level
appointments in the Reagan administration.[64] She came to the
United States in the 1950s in the company of Albrecht Otto von
Bolschwing, and worked for him as a translator.[65] Von Bolschwing
gave the direct orders to Adolph Eichmann in the dread Eisenstatz,
group, the SS killers.[66] Helene's husband, Christian von Damm,
ran the Bank of America in La Paz, Bolivia, which defaulted on a
huge U.S. loan.[67]
Errol Flynn -- The famed actor, whose exploits included meetings
with Nazi sympathizers, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and
Nazi spymasters during the late 30s. His roommate and constant coM
anion at the time was actor Ronald Reagan.[68]

Anna Chenault -- A Nixon confidant, and head,, of the old "China
Lobby" that got us involved in both Korea and Vietnam.[69] Her
husband, General Claire Chennault, formed the Flying Tigers in
World War II, which later flew heroin for the CIA from Vietnam as
"Air America." [70] She sits on the board of 20th Century Fox with
Henry Kissinger, William Rogers, Gerald Ford, and until recently,
Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco.[71]
Evita Peron -- Once a ruler in Argentina, Evita got her funds from
the Nazi treasuries stolen by Martin Bormann at the end of the
war, and put hundreds of millions in the "Evita Peron Foundation"
and Swiss bank accounts. This money aided war criminals like Josef
Mengele, Heinrich Dorge, Hjalmar Schacht (who had worked under
Herman Abs at the Reichsbank), Rudolf Freude, Dr. Fritz Thyssen
Dr. Gustav Krupp, Otto Skorzeny, and others.[72]
Peter Drucker -- Well-known industrialist who began the
multinational corporation concept, he was responsible for bringing
Nazi leader Fritz Kraemer from Frankfurt to the Pentagon.[73]
General George Patton -- An American hero of World War II, whose
credit for invading Sicily was later tarnished by the Kefauver
commission study suggesting that he traveled into friendly Mafioso
villages as part of a secret deal between Navy Intelligence and
mobster "Lucky" Luciano.[74] In his assignment to construct a
history of the war, Patton assembled Nazi Army officers and had
"admiration, affection and sympathy" for them. He picked the "best
brains," Von Manteuffel, Brandenberger, Count von Schwerin and
Fritz Kraemer.[75] After the war, Patton worked closely with John
J. McCloy. In relation to Russia he said, "Anyone who says there
won't be a future war is a goddamn fool.[76]
George Bush -- Former head of the CIA who employed, among others,
U.S. Army officer, Capt. William Rhine of the Bay of Pigs
operation. Rhine is really top SS spy Helmut Streicher, who worked
directly with Hitler, Gehlen, Otto Skorzeny, and then U.S. Army
Intelligence from October, 1945 on.[77]
General Douglas MacArthur -- Another World War II hero, he helped
to cover up Japanese war crimes involving chemical and biological
experiments on American_prisoners so that we could use the secret
results.[78] This operation and others directly involved
MacArthur's chief of staff, Colonel Charles Willoughby, who is in
reality a Nazi criminal, Kurt Weidenbach.[79]
J. Edgar Hoover -- Who formed the FBI, and without whose help Nazi
criminals could never have entered the U.S., worked in Interpol
with founder Reinhard Heydrich, SS head of Nazi police from 1940
to 1942, and his successor, SS officer Ernst Kaltenbrunner, later
hanged at Nuremberg.[80] Hoover's career involved extensive mob
connections, [81] and his death has yet to be fully
investigated.[82]
Thomas Dewey -- The "gangbuster" New York prosecutor who put
Luciano in jail, and then later petitioned for his release and
deportation to Italy in honor of his "wartime services." [83] In
1948, Dewey ran for President in a close race with Harry Truman.
Dewey's vice-presidential candidate was Earl Warren and his
campaign manager was Allen Dulles.[84]
Historically interconnected with the Solidarists and the fascists,
powerful elements in the Vatican continued their work through high
church officials, Opus Dei, and the Sovereign Military order of
Malta, the Knights of Malta.[85]
Monsignor Montini -- An OSS operative in Southeast Asia at the end
of World War II, he was later appointed Pope Paul VI. He used
Caritas International is, a welfare organization, to provide
refugee travel documents to such Nazis as euthanasia killer Hans

Hefelman and Hitler's secretary, Martin Bormann, aiding in their
escape to Argentina.[86]
Pope John Paul II -- Worked at Auschwitz in a rubber plant run
Nazi financier Hermann Abs for Solvay Drugs of I.G. Farben.[87]
Farben, which also employed Fritz Kraemer, has 750 subsidiaries
worldwide, including U.S. firms.[88] In the wake of the recent
Vatican Bank scandals, Pope John Paul I I appointed a four-man
committee to study and run Vatican finances, which included
Hitler's personal banker and the pontiff's old boss, Hermann
Abs.[89] Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal protested this recently.[90]
The Pope also elevated Opus Dei, with 72,000 members in 80
countries, to the status of a religious order.[91]
Cardinal Spellman -- Religious leader in New York, he was a
protegé of Cardinal Pacelli, Pope Pius XII, who is often accused
of collaboration with the Nazis.[92] Spellman is the U.S.
spiritual leader of the Knights of Malta.[93] He is responsible
for introducing Ngo Dinh Diem to Allen Dulles, and then proposing
his presidency of South Vietnam to President Kennedy.[94] When
Diem resisted the introduction of American troops into Vietnam,
Dulles told General Westmoreland to go ahead anyway, and our CIA
helped to kill Diem.[95]
Father E. Walsh -- His Georgetown University Center for
International Affairs and Strategic Studies became the first major
CIA training center.[96] This Jesuit priest was the motivating
force behind Joe McCarthy's campaign against "communism" in the
50s, and he is a long-time member of the Knights of Malta.[97]
Avery Dulles -- Son of John Foster Dulles, then Secretary of
State, and a nephew to Allen Dulles, then CIA director. Avery
worked with Martin Bormann to help his escape to Argentina, and is
now working as an advisor at Georgetown University. He also is a
member of the Knights of Malta.[98]
Roy Cohn -- The key lawyer in the prosecution of the Rosenberg
case the alleged "Atom Spies" executed in the 1950s, [99] he
worked with Joe McCarthy and David Schine to spread the "Communist
Menace" lies. He currently sits on the board of the anti-communist
Western Goals Foundation, and his law partner, Tom Bolan, is a
member of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.[100]
Alexander Haig -- A long-time protege of the Pentagon "Iron
Mentor" Fritz Kraemer, [101] Haig extended favors and NATO links
to the fascist cell in Italy known as P-2 or Propaganda Due, whose
"puppetmaster," Licio Gelli, worked with Franco and Mussolini and
shares dual citizenship in Italy and Argentina.[102] The
involvement of high government officials in this secret order of
Free-Masons scandalized and rocked the whole Italian government,
and opened the ensuing scandal of Banco Ambrosiano and the Vatican
Bank's missing billions.[103] Many of the key figures are either
imprisoned (Licio Gelli and Michele Sindona, former head of the
Vatican Bank) or dead (Roberto Calvi, known as "God's Banker,"
found hanging beneath Blackfriar's Bridge in London.) [104] Haig
has just been knighted into the secretive Knights of Malta, which
includes his brother, and prestigious members like William Colby
(CIA), William F. Buckley (CIA), J. Peter Grace, John McCone
(CIA), General Vernon Walters (Reagan's "roving ambassador"),
James Angleton (CIA), and others.[105]
Charles G. Bludhorn -- The founder and chairman of Gulf and
Western conglomerate, he came from Vienna in 1942. He worked
closely with Michele Sindona and his boss, Licio Gelli, had secret
dealings with Antonio Guzman of the Dominican Republic, and knew
Vatican Bank scandal figure Archbishop Paul Marcinkus.[106]
Bludhorn bought Music Corporation of America (which gave Reagan
his start), Madison Square Garden, and much more. His financial
manager, Kirk Kerkorian began with a $50,000,000 loan from West

German banker Otto Schoeppler to buy MGM. Alexander Haig was soon
on the board.[107]
Michele Ledeen -- Reagan's appointed state department official is
the unofficial source for the "Bulgarian Connection" like about
the KGB role in the shooting of the Pope. He is the major source
on "Soviet terrorism" misinformation to Claire Sterling, who
deftly covers up fascist terrorism and state terrorism alike.[108]
Ledeen has close ties to Alexander Haig, the Georgetown University
grouping, Henry Kissinger, Licio Gelli Opus Dei, and the P-2
Masonic Lodge scandal.[109] He is also close to Francesco
Pazienza, suspected to have set up "God's Banker" Roberto Calvi
for murder.[110] At the time of his death, Calvi was director of
Banco Ambrosiano, and his family members openly claim he-was
killed by Opus Dei.[111]
Joseph Lehman -- A brother to John Lehman, currently Secretary of
the Navy. John Lehman is involved in a growing scandal involving
contracts between the Pentagon and the Abingdon firm (a front for
Lockheed and Boeing), which employs Joseph, Christopher and other
Lehman family members.[112] A cousin of the family, Princess Grace
Kelly, was knighted into the Sovereign Military Order of Malta
shortly before her death, and her home at Monaco was a center for
fugitive Nazi activity for many years.[113] The Lehmans have
worked openly to curb the Catholic bishops who favor a nuclear
freeze, scaring them with the "KGB shot the Pope" nonsense.[114]
In this effort, Christopher Lehman works closely with Senator John
Tower of Texas. Senator Tower's brother-inlaw is Samuel Cimmings,
a CIA gun runner to international fascist terrorists, including
"Carlos," Frank Terpil, Ed Wilson, Gregory Korkola, and
others.[115]
Once the cast of characters is clear, the interconnections
continue. One of the front companies used by Wilson and Terpil in
California, TCI, was founded by Helene von Damm and Otto Albrecht
von BoIschwing.[116] The relative importance of von BoIschwing
cannot be underestimated. He was placed in charge of the
Gehlen-CIA network in the United States when Gehlen returned to
Germany to set up their post-war intelligence agency.[117] Many of
the people mentioned already have direct or indirect links to the
assassination of John F. Kennedy, later political murders, and
their coverups.[118] Others make the connections of the
international fascist cabal very clear in the murder of John F.
Kennedy and many more progressive leaders.
Werner von Braun -- Whose infamous "Rocket Team" developed the
first intercontinental missiles at Peenemunde, and were then
brought here to develop NASA rocketry, and the growing aerospace
industry.[119] The NASA security teams are implicated in several
sources in connection with the murder of John F. Kennedy.[120] The
actual physical capture of von Braun, who had used slave labor to
build the rockets, was done by American,; troops in Switzerland
led by Clay Shaw, later charged by District Attorney Jim Garrison
for his role in the Kennedy killing.[121]
General Walter Dohrnberger -- A Nazi murderer convicted at
Nuremberg for working with the "Butcher of Auschwitz" to kill
6,000 Jews, he was scheduled to be hanged according to British
prosecutor Shawcross.[122] He had been a "mentor" and friend to
Von Braun throughout the war, getting materials and labor denied
at times by Hitler for the rocket works. Von Braun refused to work
on NASA rockets unless we intervened to save Dohrnberger. Of
course, we did, and a full pardon was arranged by John J.
McCloy.[123] General Dohrnberger came to the United States, worked
at NASA briefly, and then became director of the Helicopter
Division, Bell Aerospace, in Dallas and Houston, Texas.[124] He
still trains pilots abroad, working with dictators like the Shah
of Iran. Dohrnberger employed topranking military intelligence
agent Michele Paine, who housed Marina Oswald in his home in

Irving, Texas.[125] Marina, who married Lee Harvey Oswald in
Russia, lived in Minsk, Byelorussia, and was the niece of the top
officer of the NKVD, the Soviet secret police.[126] Her family was
openly anti-communist.[127]
George de Mohrenschildt -- His whole family was Byelorussian, and
rabidly anti-communist after their fortune was lost to the
revolution at the Nobel family oil fields. They moved to Germany
and worked with the Nazis during World War II. George was a spy,
carrying papers from Nelson Rockefeller after the war, and his
cousin Baron Meyerling was a Nazi film propagandist. His brother,
Von, was put to work at the Pentagon after the war, and now sits
on the CIA's Tolstoy Foundation. His wife was related to CIA and
OSS employees, and her father ran the railroads in China before
Mao took power. George later lost another oil fortune of his own
in Cuba following the ouster of Batista by Fidel Castro.[128] He
was the contact for the Oswalds to the White Russian Solidarist
community in Dallas, and the CIA "babysitter" and best friend to
Lee Harvey Oswald. De Mohrenschildt introduced the Oswalds to the
Paines, and it was Ruth Paine who got Oswald the job in the Texas
School Book Depository, and lied to the Warren Commission about
"Oswald's rifle" and set him up as the patsy in the Kennedy
assassination.[129]
Leon Jaworski -- Considered by some to be "the most trusted man in
America" due to his role as special prosecutor in the Watergate
and Koreagate scandals, he spent 20 years with the CIA's M.D.
Anderson Foundation.[130] A lawyer at the Nuremberg trials,
Jaworski undermined prosecutions, then worked with the Red Cross
international rescue division to move the Nazi Odessa network
around the world.[131] He was later Special Liaison between the
Dallas police and the Warren Commission.[132]
Otto Winnacker -- The actual author of the Warren Commission
Report, he was taken away from his job as an official Pentagon
historian (recall that the U.S. Army historical division was the
waystation for the Gehlen operation), and he had come to the
United States after years of faithful service as one of Hitler's
official historians of the Reich.[133]
Believe it or not, these are only a few of the thousands of
connections that history has hidden, only a few of the thousands
of fascists brought to light, their worst crimes still
unexposed.[134] This is the dirtiest secret of post-war America:
our vast intelligence networks were a haven for, and eventually a
tool in the hands of international fascism. The increasing
challenge to simple Constitutional rights is a direct result of
the legislative and political role, played behind the closed door
of "security" by these elements. The growing threat to the already
damaged economy by the military-industrial complex is out of
control. All is geared to a new world war, a bloodbath in section
of the Third World, a reduction of population worldwide. The
attacks in Congress and the courts on rights are the prelude to
open martial law and fascist rule in America -- a new "final
solution." [135]
"When they came for the Jews, I did nothing for I am not a Jew . .
. when they came for me, who was left to defend me?" asked Martin
Niemoller of Germany in the 1940s. The continuing murders of labor
leaders, musicians, political dissidents, progressive thinkers,
Black and Hispanic leaders, and others here in the United States
parallels the hundreds of political murders in the late 20s and
early 30s in Weimar Germany that preceded Hitler's rise to
power.[136] When the came for the socialists and communists in the
1950s, the targets of the Smith Act and other repressive
treatment, many of us did not act since we were not members of
such organizations. Will be make the mistake twice?
Hanging solemnly over the mass murder at Jonestown, Guyana, was

the George Santayana quote, "Those who do not remember the past
are condemned to repeat it." [137] We are not far from the open
collusion of the courts in all aspects of state repression. Recent
events must be seen for what they are, an attack on us all,
spearheaded by the very forces of reaction that threaten life and
freedom worldwide, hiding beneath the cloak of anticommunism. To
sit back now will put us in &category akin to Klaus Barbie's Army
Intelligence contact, Ernst Dabringhaus. Will we be "Good Germans
of American extraction" and "do our job," or will we rise?

but one indication. Fr. Walsh, his "mentor," worked with the
Papal Relief Mission in the 1920s, along with Herbert Hoover,
as a cover to rearm the monarchists. McCarthy was supported
directly by Nazis here in the U.S., including Frank
Seusenbrenner, then President of the Board of the University
of Wisconsin, and Walter Harnishfeger. In turn, McCarthy took
over the Senate hearings on the Massacre at Malmedy to cover
the Nazi criminals. Other examples of interlinks abound:
Charles Willoughby, really Weidenbach, helped found Young
Americans for Freedom in Dallas in 1963, which had a role in
the JFK assassination. Also involved there was Robert Morris,
a Navy intelligence psy-war expert in World War II, who
chaired the Committee to Restore Internal Security, assisted
in the McCarthy purges, and linked to the Dallas YAF plot.
Fr. Walsh himself had ties with a Nazi Major General, Karl
Houshofer.
Sven Kraemer, the son of the notorious Fritz Kraemer, links
closely with Rev. Moon, the World Anti-Communist League, and
the Pentagon.
Mike Burke of G&W's Madison Square Garden had CIA
connections, worked in an early plot to overthrow Albania,
and links to Sonny Werblin at the Garden, an early Hollywood

Not all conspiracies are created equal

You get the details of the first three right, but then I doubt you did your own homework to get
there. The ballistics don't work in the MLK case either, and the rifle Ray purchased was not
the murder weapon. Then again, just because someone tells you the government is lying to
you it doesn't mean they are telling you the truth. Especially not some French novel writer
concocting a fantasy about what happened on 9/11 at the Pentagon.
I can tell you are not from DC, nor have you done your homework on American Airlines
Flight 77, which did indeed hit the Pentagon and kill all aboard, several construction workers
outside and about 15 Pentagon employees. The pilot went 270 degrees out of his way in an
amazing full speed descending spiral to hit the empty side of the building. This minimized the
number of deaths actually, as had been the case with hitting the first of the Twin Towers at
8:43 instead of an hour later when tens of thousands would have died.
How do I know Flight 77 hit the Pentagon? First, local news immediately interviewed and
broadcast eyewitness accounts of the plane going in. I have since interviewed many local
people who watched the plane and even ducked as it flew so low overhead. The Pentagon has
not released footage of it, and the local news media did not catch the moment as they had in
New York City. It was not for lack of knowing it was coming, they had told us that a good 35-
40 minutes ahead.
Second, I was convinced I had lost a dear friend and fellow assassination researcher that day,
who was a regular flight attendant on Flight 77 from Dulles to LAX. Thankfully, she was
home with her ailing father and was not killed. She was taken with other ground crew and
attendants who worked that route to see the damage at the Pentagon, and she recognized parts
of the plane she had flown so often.
There was rubble and remains despite your claims. She was shown autopsy photos of her
fellow crew members, including the severed arm of her best friend at work, which she
recognized from the bracelet she wore.
Third, others who expound on this idea that the plane did too little damage to the building
may not realize that the fuel is in the wings, and that they disintegrated on contact, while
spreading the fireball that burned the fuel, the building and the plane. They may not recall that
part of the purpose of rebuilding that side of the Pentagon, which they had been doing quite
visibly for almost 4 years, was to reinforce it against just such an attack, and there is a clearly
visible difference in the level of destruction done on either side of that reinforced section.
As to the water putting out the fire, it did not for quite a while. The fire was still smoking into
the next day. The water denied extra tinder to the initial fire perhaps, by soaking it. Airplane
fuel burns very hot but also very quick. They also used foam and other firefighting
techniques, not just streams of water.
Do your homework. I am no friend of The Nation and the anti-conspiracy fetish their writers
exhibit and have since the time of the Kennedy assassination. I am, if anything, one of the
first to wear the moniker "conspiracy theorist". John McLaughlin on his News Hour once
claimed that the character portrayed by Mel Gibson in the movie "Conspiracy Theory" was
based on my "personality." Another laughable claim, but evidence that what I have been
researching and saying gets under their skin enough to make them drag me out of obscurity
into the national media.
I'm willing to be called a conspiracy theorist as long as you call everyone else a coincidence
theorist. The U.S. military-industrial-intelligence state and its police forces were intimately
involved in the murders of John and Robert Kennedy and Dr. King, and we are still working
hard to get final release of their own massive documents and files that relate to that history.
We have convinced all but the most unthinking elements of the American public that these
murders were not the work of the patsies assigned to them, but of the highest levels of
government. We have done so partly by hard and exhaustive forensic and medical and
historical research, and partly because the same national security state has wanted us to know,
without a full confession, that they did it. It was a warning and a way to try to kill our hope
for change.
Similar diamond-hard research needs to be applied to the facts and events of 9/11 and since,
as well as the history that led up to it. Rumor is not research, and we only sully the truth by
jumping to believe the sensational. Cynicism is healthy, but informed cynicism is the only
way to avoid paranoia and confustion.
Not all "conspiracies" are created equal. The government did kill JFK, and they lied about it.
That does not mean there was never a Holocaust, or that the world is run by the Illuminati.
The blindness of Chomsky and the other left structuralists is that they make the class out to be
monolithic and without mechanisms to carry out its will. They fear that if you think there was
any reason to kill a president then you don't understand how capitalism works, and that you
will be filled with false hope about the Kennedy clan, who were only more of the same old
ruling class. They can't let themselves think JFK could really have intended to pull out of the
Vietnam war, since he went along with legacy left him by Nixon and the 40 committee, which
included the Bay of Pigs operation already on the books.
But when JFK saw the CIA and the Cubans in action he refused to be pushed into sending
American troops into Cuba. When the Joint Chiefs were ready and raring to go into full scale
nuclear war with the USSR during the missile crisis, JFK was almost the only level head in
the room who refused. And he WAS pulling out of Vietnam. He had given the orders and
forced the Joint Chiefs to project that withdrawal by the end of 1964 during the month of
April, 1963.
The Joint Chiefs reversed him 180 degrees plus on the Monday following his assassination,
projecting instead a 10-year war with 57,000 dead that freaked out my mother enough to take
it back up to the Chiefs and question it, the first civilian protest to the war in Vietnam by their
highest paid woman manpower analyst.
And even today you can go into the homes of poor Black people in the South and find
pictures on the wall of Jesus, Dr. King and the Kennedy brothers because of the hope for
change they represented in their response to popular movements like civil rights and nuclear
disarmament. Kennedy called for an end to the Cold War in June of 1963. He was going after
the Mafia and threatening the tax writeoffs of the oil rich. He said in October he would
"scatter the CIA to the four winds", and behind the scenes he was reaching out to normalize
relations with Cuba that last year.
But it's not enough for Howard Zinn and Alexander Cockburn, much less Max Holland and
David Corn. They want more dirt, and they want us never to notice a tree for fear we will miss
the forest. The hard truth of the matter is that the left critique of Kennedy, and there is one to
be made, is not the issue. It is the right's critique of him that mattered, what Generals Curtis
Lemay and Lyman Lemnitzer thought of him and what they did about it.
Chomsky says that such "conspiracies" only exist outside the mechanisms of state power, are
rare and are stopped when discovered (like Contragate he claims). And yet, when you raise
the assassination of Martin Luther King with him then he becomes a "conspiracy theorist" too,
saying that it was planned at the highest level of government, maybe using the Mafia, and
covered up. He says they had a REASON to kill Dr. King. So, with them, it's just a function of
how much you liked the guy whether he was done in by coincidence or not. Gee, maybe
they'll start to wonder about the Wellstone plane crash?
But in the end you can only get to the truth with hard work, comparing and sorting facts and
rumors, and digging for the hidden reality as well as the obvious. We are paralyzed in
America, says Martin Schotz in his great book History Will Not Absolve Us: Orwellian
Control, Public Denial, and the Murder of President Kenned (Kurtz, Ulmer and DeLucia,
1996), by the fact that we can BELIEVE anything but we are allowed to KNOW nothing.
Until we know, we cannot act. And if we act on rumor and impulse then we are no less a slave
than those who live in the denial that the propaganda machines promote. So, be cynical and
question things, but be analytical and scientific so you can approach the truth when you speak.
Three truths don't make a fourth just by mentioning them. All lies, in fact, depend on having
elements of the truth in them for verismilitude as its called. Read, don't repeat what you last
heard. And if you are going to be more than a theorist, then give conspiracy the respect it
deserves, and prove it. Good hunting, and always come clean.

The ultimate victims of mind control at Jonestown are the
American people. If we fail to look beyond the constructed
images given us by the television and the press, then our
consciousness is manipulated, just as well as the Jonestown
victims' was. Facing nuclear annihilation, may see the current
militarism of the Reagan policies, and military training itself, as
the real "mass suicide cult." If the discrepancy between the
truth of Jonestown and the official version can be so great,
truth of Jonestown and the official version can be so great,
what other lies have we been told about major events?
History is precious. In a democracy, knowledge must be
accessible for informed consent to function. Hiding or distorting
history behind "national security" leaves the public as the final
enemy of the government. Democratic process cannot operate
on "need to know." Otherwise we live in the 1984 envisioned
by Orwell's projections and we must heed his warning that
those who control the past control the future.
The real tragedy of Jonestown is not only that it occurred, but
that so few chose to ask themselves why or how, so few
sought to find out the facts behind the bizarre tale used to
explain away the death of more than 900 people, and that so
many will continue to be blind to the grim reality of our
intelligence agencies. In the long run, the truth will come out.
Only our complicity in the deception continues to dishonor the
dead.
Somewhere in the concrete canyons of New York City a recently
formed rock group is using the name Jim Jones and the Suicides.
Irreverent and disarming, the name reflects the new trend in
punk rock, to take social issues head on. Cynicism about the
Jonestown deaths and its social parallels abound in the lyrics of
today's music. The messages are clear because we all know the
story.
In fact, people today recognize the name "Jonestown" more than
any other event, a full 98% of the population.[1] The television
and printed media were filled with the news for more than a
year, even though the tale read like something from the National
Enquirer tabloid. But despite all the coverage, the reality of
Jonestown and the reasons behind the bizarre events remain a
mystery. The details have faded from memory for most of us
since November 18, 1978, but not the outlines. Think back a
moment and you'll remember.
You Know the Official Version
A fanatic religious leader in California led a multiracial
community into the jungles of remote Guyana to establish a
socialist utopia. The People's Temple, his church, was in the
heart of San Francisco and drew poor people, social activists,
Blacks and Hispanics, young and old. The message was racial
harmony and justice, and criticism of the hypocrisy of the world
around his followers.[2]
The Temple rose in a vacuum of leadership at the end of an era.
The political confrontations of the 60s were almost over, and
religious cults and "personal transformation" were on the rise.
Those who had preached a similar message on the political soap
box were gone, burnt out, discredited, or dead. The counterculture
had apparently degenerated into drugs and violence.
Charlie Manson was the only visible image of the period.
Suddenly, religion seemed to offer a last hope.[3]
Even before they left for the Jonestown site, the People's Temple
members were subjects of local scandal in the news.[4] Jim Jones
claimed these exposés were attacks on their newly-found
religion, and used them as an excuse to move most of the
members to Guyana.[5] But disturbing reports continued to
surround Jones, and soon came to the attention of congressional
members like Leo Ryan. Stories of beatings, kidnapping, sexual
abuse and mysterious deaths leaked out in the press.[6] Ryan
decided to go to Guyana and investigate the situation for
himself. The nightmare began.[7]
Isolated on the tiny airstrip at Port Kaituma, Ryan and several
reporters in his group were murdered. Then came the almost
unbelievable "White Night," a mass suicide pact of the Jonestown
camp. A community made up mostly of Blacks and women drank
cyanide from paper cups of Kool-Aid, adults and children alike
died and fell around the main pavilion. Jones himself was shot in
the head, an apparent suicide. For days, the body count
mounted, from 400 to nearly 1,000. The bodies were flown to
the United States and later cremated or buried in mass graves.[8]
Temple member Larry Layton is still facing charges of conspiracy
in Ryan's murder. Ryan was recently awarded a posthumous
Medal of Honor, and was the first Congress member to die in the
line of duty.[9]
Pete Hammill called the corpses "all the loose change of the
sixties."[10] The effect was electric. Any alternative to the current
system was seen as futile, if not deadly. Protest only led to police
riots and political assassination. Alternative life styles and drugs
led to "creepy-crawly" communes and violent murders.[11] And
religious experiments led to cults and suicide. Social utopias
were dreams that turned into nightmares. The television urged
us to go back to "The Happy Days" of the apolitical 50s. The
message was, get a job, and go back to church.[12] The
unyielding nuclear threat generated only nihilism and
hopelessness. There was no answer but death, no exit from the
grisly future. The new ethic was personal success, aerobics,
material consumption, a return to "American values," and the
"moral majority" white Christian world. The official message was
clear.
But Just Suppose It
Didn't Happen That Way...
The headlines the day of the massacre read: "Cult Dies in South
American Jungle: 400 Die in Mass Suicide, 700 Flee into
Jungle."[13] By all accounts in the press, as well as People's
Temple statements there were at least 1,100 people at
Jonestown.[14] There were 809 adult passports found there, and
reports of 300 children (276 found among the dead, and 210
never identified). The headline figures from the first day add to
the same number: 1,100.[15] The original body count done by the
Guyanese was 408, and this figure was initially agreed to by U.S.
Army authorities on site.[16] However, over the next few days, the
total of reported dead began to rise quickly. The Army made a
series of misleading and openly false statements about the
discrepancy. The new total, which was the official final count,
was given almost a week later by American authorities as 913.[17]
A total of 16 survivors were reported to have returned to the
U.S.[18] Where were the others?
At their first press conference, the Americans claimed that the
Guyanese "could not count." These local people had carried out
the gruesome job of counting the bodies, and later assisted
American troops in the process of poking holes in the flesh lest
they explode from the gasses of decay.[19] Then the Americans
proposed another theory -- they had missed seeing a pile of
bodies at the back of the pavilion. The structure was the size of a
small house, and they had been at the scene for days. Finally, we
were given the official reason for the discrepancy -- bodies had
fallen on top of other bodies, adults covering children.[20]

It was a simple, if morbid, arithmetic that led to the first
suspicions. The 408 bodies discovered at first count would have
to be able to cover 505 bodies for a total of 913. In addition,
those who first worked on the bodies would have been unlikely
to miss bodies lying beneath each other since each body had to
be punctured. Eighty-two of the bodies first found were those of
children, reducing the number that could have been hidden
below others.[21] A search of nearly 150 photographs, aerial and
close-up, fails to show even one body lying under another,
much less 500.[22]
It seemed the first reports were true, 400 had died, and 700 had
fled to the jungle. The American authorities claimed to have
searched for people who had escaped, but found no evidence of
any in the surrounding area.[23] At least a hundred Guyanese
troops were among the first to arrive, and they were ordered to
search the jungle for survivors.[24] In the area, at the same time,
British Black Watch troops were on "training exercises," with
nearly 600 of their best-trained commandos. Soon, American
Green Berets were on site as well.[25] The presence of these
soldiers, specially trained in covert killing operations, may
explain the increasing numbers of bodies that appeared.
Most of the photographs show the bodies in neat rows, face
down. There are few exceptions. Close shots indicate drag
marks, as though the bodies were positioned by someone after
death.[26] Is it possible that the 700 who fled were rounded up
by these troops, brought back to Jonestown and added to the
body count?[27]
If so, the bodies would indicate the cause of death. A new word
was coined by the media, "suicide-murder." But which was it?[28]
Autopsies and forensic science are a developing art. The
detectives of death use a variety of scientific methods and clues
to determine how people die, when they expire, and the specific
cause of death. Dr. Mootoo, the top Guyanese pathologist, was
at Jonestown within hours after the massacre. Refusing the
assistance of U.S. pathologists, he accompanied the teams that
counted the dead, examined the bodies, and worked to identify
the deceased. While the American press screamed about the
"Kool-Aid Suicides," Dr. Mootoo was reaching a much different
opinion.[29]
There are certain signs that show the types of poisons that lead
to the end of life. Cyanide blocks the messages from the brain to
to the end of life. Cyanide blocks the messages from the brain to
the muscles by changing body chemistry in the central nervous
system. Even the "involuntary" functions like breathing and
heartbeat get mixed neural signals. It is a painful death, breath
coming in spurts. The other muscles spasm, limbs twist and
contort. The facial muscles draw back into a deadly grin, called
"cyanide rictus."[30] All these telling signs were absent in the
Jonestown dead. Limbs were limp and relaxed, and the few
visible faces showed no sign of distortion.[31]
Instead, Dr. Mootoo found fresh needle marks at the back of the
left shoulder blades of 80-90% of the victims.[32] Others had
been shot or strangled. One survivor reported that those who
resisted were forced by armed guards.[33] The gun that
reportedly shot Jim Jones was lying nearly 200 feet from his
body, not a likely suicide weapon.[34] As Chief Medical Examiner,
Mootoo's testimony to the Guyanese grand jury investigating
Jonestown led to their conclusion that all but three of the people
were murdered by "persons unknown." Only two had committed
suicide they said.[35] Several pictures show the gun-shot wounds
on the bodies as well.[36] The U.S. Army spokesman, Lt. Col.
Schuler, said, "No autopsies are needed. The cause of death is
not an issue here." The forensic doctors who later did autopsies
at Dover, Delaware, were never made aware of Dr. Mootoo's
findings.[37]
There are other indications that the Guyanese government
participated with American authorities in a cover-up of the real
story, despite their own findings. One good example was
Guyanese Police Chief Lloyd Barker, who interfered with
investigations, helped "recover" 2.5 million for the Guyanese
government, and was often the first to officially announce the
cover stories relating to suicide, body counts and survivors.[38]
Among the first to the scene were the wife of Guyanese Prime
Minister Forbes Burnham and his Deputy Prime Minister, Ptolemy
Reid. They returned from the massacre site with nearly $1
million in cash, gold and jewelry taken from the buildings and
from the dead. Inexplicably, one of Burnham's political party
secretaries had visited the site of the massacre only hours before
it occurred.[39] When Shirley Field Ridley, Guyanese Minister of
Information, announced the change in the body count to the
shocked Guyanese parliament, she refused to answer further
questions. Other representatives began to point a finger of
shame at Ridley and the Burnham government, and the local
press dubbed the scandal "Templegate." All accused them of
taking a ghoulish payoff.[40]
Perhaps more significantly, the Americans brought in 16 huge
C-131 cargo planes, but claimed they could only carry 36
caskets in each one. These aircraft can carry tanks, trucks,
troops and ammunition all in one load.[41] At the scene, bodies
were stripped of identification, including the medical wrist tags
visible in many early photos.[42] Dust-off operations during
Vietnam clearly demonstrated that the military is capable of
moving hundreds of bodies in a short period.[43] Instead, they
took nearly a week to bring back the Jonestown dead, bringing in
the majority at the end of the period.[44] The corpses, rotting in
the heat, made autopsy impossible.[45] At one point, the remains
of 183 people arrived in 82 caskets. Although the Guyanese had
identified 174 bodies at the site, only 17 (later 46) were
tentatively identified at the massive military mortuary in Dover,
Delaware.[46]
Isolated there, hundreds of miles from their families who might
have visited the bodies at a similar mortuary in Oakland that was
used during Vietnam, many of the dead were eventually
cremated.[47] Press was excluded, and even family members had
difficulty getting access to the remains.[48] Officials in New Jersey
began to complain that state coroners were excluded, and that
the military coroners appointed were illegally performing
cremations.[49] One of the top forensic body identification
experts, who later was brought in to work on the Iranian raid
casualties, was denied repeated requests to assist.[50] In
December, the President of the National Association of Medical
Examiners complained in an open letter to the U.S. military that
they "badly botched" procedures, and that a simple fluid autopsy
was never performed at the point of discovery. Decomposition,
embalming and cremation made further forensic work
impossible.[51] The unorthodox method of identification
attempted, to remove the skin from the finger tip and slip it over
a gloved finger, would not have stood up in court.[52]
The long delay made it impossible to reconstruct the event. As
noted, these military doctors were unaware of Dr. Mootoo's
conclusions. Several civilian pathology experts said they
"shuddered at the ineptness" of the military, and that their
autopsy method was "doing it backwards." But in official
statements, the U.S. attempted to discredit the Guyanese grand
jury findings, saying they had uncovered "few facts."[53]
Guyanese troops, and police who had arrived with American
Embassy official Richard Dwyer, also failed to defend
Congressman Leo Ryan and others who came to Guyana with

him when they were shot down in cold blood at the Port Kaituma
airstrip, even though the troops were nearby with machine guns
at the ready.[54] Although Temple member Larry Layton has been
charged with the murders of Congressman Ryan, Temple
defector Patricia Parks, and press reporters Greg Robinson, Don
Harris and Bob Brown, he was not in a position to shoot them.[55]
Blocked from boarding Ryan's twin engine Otter, he had entered
another plane nearby. Once inside, he pulled out a gun and
wounded two Temple followers, before being disarmed.[56] The
others were clearly killed by armed men who descended from a
tractor trailer at the scene, after opening fire. Witnesses
described them as "zombies," walking mechanically, without
emotion, and "looking through you, not at you" as they
murdered.[57] Only certain people were killed, and the selection
was clearly planned. Certain wounded people, like Ryan's aide
Jackie Speiers, were not harmed further, but the killers made
sure that Ryan and the newsmen were dead. In some cases they
shot people, already wounded, directly in the head.[58] These
gunmen were never finally identified, and may have been under
Layton's command. They may not have been among the
Jonestown dead.[59]
At the Jonestown site, survivors described a special group of
Jones' followers who were allowed to carry weapons and money,
and to come and go from the camp. These people were all white,
mostly males.[60] They ate better and worked less than the
others, and they served as an armed guard to enforce discipline,
control labor and restrict movement.[61] Among them were Jones'
top lieutenants, including George Phillip Blakey. Blakey and
others regularly visited Georgetown, Guyana and made trips in
their sea-going boat, the Cudjoe. He was privileged to be aboard
the boat when the murders occurred.[62] This special armed
guard survived the massacre. Many were trained and
programmed killers, like the "zombies" who attacked Ryan. Some
were used as mercenaries in Africa, and elsewhere.[63] The dead
were 90% women, and 80% Blacks.[64] It is unlikely that men
armed with guns and modern crossbows would give up control
and willingly be injected with poisons. It is much more likely that
they forced nearly 400 people to die by injection, and then
assisted in the murder of 500 more who attempted to escape.
One survivor clearly heard people cheering 45 minutes after the
massacre. Despite government claims, they are not accounted
for, nor is their location known.[65]
Back in California, People's Temple members openly admitted
that they feared they were targeted by a "hit squad," and the
that they feared they were targeted by a "hit squad," and the
Temple was surrounded for some time by local police forces.[66]
During that period, two members of the elite guard from
Jonestown returned and were allowed into the Temple by
police.[67] The survivors who rode to Port Kaituma with Leo Ryan
complained when Larry Layton boarded the truck, "He's not one
of us."[68] Rumors also persisted that a "death list" of U.S.
officials existed, and some survivors verified in testimony to the
San Francisco grand jury.[69] A congressional aide was quoted in
the AP wires on May 19, 1979, "There are 120 white,
brainwashed assassins out from Jonestown awaiting the trigger
word to pick up their hit."[70]
Other survivors included Mark Lane and Charles Garry, lawyers
for People's Temple who managed to escape the massacre
somehow.[71] In addition to the 16 who officially returned with
the Ryan party, others managed to reach Georgetown and come
back home.[72] However, there have been continuing suspicious
murders of those people here. Jeannie and Al Mills, who
intended to write a book about Jones, were murdered at home,
bound and shot.[73] Some evidence indicates a connection
between the Jonestown operation and the murders of Mayor
Moscone and Harvey Milk by police agent Dan White.[74] Another
Jonestown survivor was shot near his home in Detroit by
unidentified killers.[75] Yet another was involved in a mass
murder of school children in Los Angeles.[76] Anyone who
survived such massive slaughter must be somewhat suspect. The
fact that the press never even spoke about nearly 200 survivors
raises serious doubts.
Who Was Jim Jones?
In order to understand the strange events surrounding
Jonestown, we must begin with a history of the people involved.
The official story of a religious fanatic and his idealist followers
doesn't make sense in light of the evidence of murders, armed
killers and autopsy cover-ups. If it happened the way we were
told, there should be no reason to try to hide the facts from the
public, and full investigation into the deaths at Jonestown, and
the murder of Leo Ryan would have been welcomed. What did
happen is something else again.
Jim Jones grew up in Lynn, in southern Indiana. His father was an
active member of the local Ku Klux Klan that infest that area.[77]
His friends found him a little strange, and he was interested in
preaching the Bible and religious rituals.[78] Perhaps more
preaching the Bible and religious rituals.[78] Perhaps more
important was his boyhood friendship with Dan Mitrione,
confirmed by local residents.[79] In the early 50s, Jones set out to
be a religious minister, and was ordained at one point by a
Christian denomination in Indianapolis.[80] It was during this
period that he met and married his lifelong mate, Marceline.[81]
He also had a small business selling monkeys, purchased from
the research department at Indiana State University in
Bloomington.[82]
A Bible-thumper and faith healer, Jones put on revivalist tent
shows in the area, and worked close to Richmond, Indiana.
Mitrione, his friend, worked as chief of police there, and kept
him from being arrested or run out of town.[83] According to
those close to him, he used wet chicken livers as evidence of
"cancers" he was removing by "divine powers."[84] His landlady
called him "a gangster who used a Bible instead of a gun."[85] His
church followers included Charles Beikman, a Green Beret who
was to stay with him to the end.[86] Beikman was later charged
with the murders of several Temple members in Georgetown,
following the massacre.[87]
Dan Mitrione, Jones' friend, moved on to the CIA-financed
International Police Academy, where police were trained in
counter-insurgency and torture techniques from around the
world.[88] Jones, a poor, itinerant preacher, suddenly had money
in 1961 for a trip to "minister" in Brazil, and he took his family
with him.[89] By this time, he had "adopted" Beikman, and eight
children, both Black and white.[90] His neighbors in Brazil
distrusted him. He told them he worked with U.S. Navy
Intelligence. His transportation and groceries were being
provided by the U.S. Embassy as was the large house he lived
in.[91] His son, Stephan, commented that he made regular trips to
Belo Horizonte, site of the CIA headquarters in Brazil.[92] An
American police advisor, working closely with the CIA at that
point, Dan Mitrione was there as well.[93] Mitrione had risen in
the ranks quickly, and was busy training foreign police in torture
and assassination methods. He was later kidnapped by
Tupermaro guerillas in Uruguay, interrogated and murdered.[94]
Costa Gravas made a film about his death titled State of
Siege.[95] Jones returned to the United States in 1963, with
$10,000 in his pocket.[96] Recent articles indicate that Catholic
clergy are complaining about CIA funding of other denominations
for "ministry" in Brazil; perhaps Jones was an early example.[97]
With his new wealth, Jones was able to travel to California and
establish the first People's Temple in Ukiah, California, in 1965.

Guarded by dogs, electric fences and guard towers, he set up
Happy Havens Rest Home.[98] Despite a lack of trained personnel,
or proper licensing, Jones drew in many people at the camp. He
had elderly, prisoners, people from psychiatric institutions, and
150 foster children, often transferred to care at Happy Havens by
court orders.[99] He was contacted there by Christian
missionaries from World Vision, an international evangelical
order that had done espionage work for the CIA in Southeast
Asia.[100] He met "influential" members of the community and
was befriended by Walter Heady, the head of the local chapter of
the John Birch Society.[101] He used the members of his "church"
to organize local voting drives for Richard Nixon's election, and
worked closely with the republican party.[102] He was even
appointed chairman of the county grand jury.[103]
"The Messiah from Ukiah," as he was known then, met and
recruited Timothy Stoen, a Stanford graduate and member of the
city DA's office, and his wife Grace.[104] During this time, the
Layton family, Terri Buford and George Phillip Blakey and other
important members joined the Temple.[105] The camp "doctor,"
Larry Schacht, claims Jones got him off drugs and into medical
school during this period.[106] These were not just street urchins.
Buford's father was a Commander for the fleet at the
Philadelphia Navy Base for years.[107] The Laytons were a wellheeled,
aristocratic family. Dr. Layton donated at least a quartermillion
dollars to Jones. His wife son and daughter were all
members of the Temple.[108] George Blakey, who married Debbie
Layton, was from a wealthy British family. He donated $60,000
to pay the lease on the 27,000-acre Guyana site in 1974.[109]
Lisa Philips Layton had come to the U.S. from a rich Hamburg
banking family in Germany.[110] Most of the top lieutenants
around Jones were from wealthy, educated backgrounds, many
with connections to the military or intelligence agencies. These
were the people who would set up the bank accounts, complex
legal actions, and financial records that put people under the
Temple's control.[111]
Stoen was able to set up important contacts for Jones as
Assistant DA in San Francisco.[112] Jones changed his image to
that of a liberal.[113] He had spent time studying the preaching
methods of Fr. Divine in Philadelphia, and attempted to use them
in a manipulative way on the streets of San Francisco. Fr. Divine
ran a religious and charitable operation among Philadelphia's
poor Black community.[114] Jones was able to use his followers in
an election once again, this time for Mayor Moscone. Moscone
responded in 1976, putting Jones in charge of the city Housing
responded in 1976, putting Jones in charge of the city Housing
Commission.[115] In addition, many of his key followers got jobs
with the city Welfare Department and much of the recruitment to
the Temple in San Francisco came from the ranks of these
unemployed and dispossessed people.[116] Jones was introduced
to many influential liberal and radical people there, and
entertained or greeted people ranging from Roslyn Carter to
Angela Davis.[117]
The period when Jones began the Temple there marked the end
of an important political decade. Nixon's election had ushered in
a domestic intelligence dead set against the movements for
peace, civil rights and social justice. Names like COINTELPRO,
CHAOS, and OPERATION GARDEN PLOT, or the HOUSTON PLAN made the
news following in the wake of Watergate revelations.[118] Senator
Ervin called the White House plans against dissent "fascistic."[119]
These operations involved the highest levels of military and
civilian intelligence and all levels of police agencies in a fullscale
attempt to discredit, disrupt and destroy the movements
that sprang up in the 1960s. There are indications that these
plans, or the mood they created, led to the assassinations of
Martin Luther King and Malcolm X, as unacceptable "Black
Messiahs."[120]
One of the architects under then-Governor Reagan in California
was now-Attorney General Edwin Meese. He coordinated
"Operation Garden Plot" for military intelligence and all police
operations and intelligence in a period that was plagued with
violations of civil and constitutional rights.[121] Perhaps you recall
the police attacks on People's Park, the murder of many Black
Panthers and activists, the infiltration of the Free Speech
Movement and antiwar activity, and the experimentation on
prisoners at Vacaville, or the shooting of George Jackson.[122]
Meese later bragged that this activity had damaged or destroyed
the people he called "revolutionaries."[123] It was into this
situation Jones came to usurp leadership.[124]
After his arrival in Ukiah, his methods were visible to those who
took the time to investigate.[125] His armed guards wore black
uniforms and leather jackboots. His approach was one of
deception, and if that wore off, then manipulation and threats.
Loyalty to his church included signing blank sheets of paper,
later filled in with "confessions' and used for blackmail purposes,
or to extort funds.[126] Yet the vast membership he was extorting
often owned little, and he tried to milk them for everything, from
personal funds to land deeds.[127] Illegal activities were regularly
reported during this period, but either not investigated or
reported during this period, but either not investigated or
unresolved. He clearly had the cooperation of local police. Years
later, evidence would come out of charges of sexual solicitation,
mysteriously dropped.[128]
Those who sought to leave were prevented and rebuked. Local
journalist Kathy Hunter wrote in the Ukiah press about "Seven
Mysterious Deaths" of the Temple members who had argued with
Jones and attempted to leave. One of these was Maxine
Swaney.[129] Jones openly hinted to other members that he had
arranged for them to die, threatening a similar fate to others
who would be disloyal.[130] Kathy Hunter later tried to visit
Jonestown, only to be forcibly drugged by Temple guards, and
deported to Georgetown.[131] She later charged that Mark Lane
approached her, falsely identifying himself as a reporter for
Esquire, rather than as an attorney for Jim Jones. He led her to
believe he was seeking information on Jones for an exposé in the
magazine, and asked to see her evidence.
The pattern was to continue in San Francisco. In addition, Jones
required that members practice for the mysterious "White Night,"
a mass suicide ritual that would protect them from murder at the
hands of their enemies.[132] Although the new Temple had no
guards or fences to restrict members, few had other places to
live, and many had given over all they owned to Jones. They felt
trapped inside this community that preached love, but practiced
hatred.[133]
Following press exposure, and a critical article in New West
magazine, Jones became very agitated, and the number of
suicide drills increased.[134] Complaints about mistreatment by
current and ex-members began to appear in the media and
reach the ears of congressional representatives. Sam Houston, an
old friend of Leo Ryan, came to him with questions about the
untimely death of his son following his departure from the
Temple.[135] Later, Timothy and Grace Stoen would complain to
Ryan about custody of their young son, who was living with
Jones, and urge him to visit the commune.[136] Against advice of
friends and staff members, Ryan decided to take a team of
journalists to Guyana and seek the truth of the situation.[137]
Some feel that Ryan's journey there was planned and expected,
and used as a convenient excuse to set up his murder. Others
feel that this unexpected violation of secrecy around Jonestown
set off the spark that led to the mass murder. In either case, it
marked the beginning of the end for Ryan and Jones.[138]
At one point, to show his powers, Jones arranged to be shot in
the heart in front of the congregation. Dragged to a back room,
apparently wounded and bleeding, he returned a moment later
alive and well. While this may have been more of his stage antics
to prompt believers' faith it may also have marked the end of Jim
Jones.[139] For undisclosed reasons, Jones had and used
"doubles."[140] This is very unusual for a religious leader, but
quite common in intelligence operations.[141]
Even the death and identification of Jim Jones were peculiar. He
was apparently shot by another person at the camp.[142] Photos
of his body do not show identifying tattoos on his chest. The
body and face are not clearly recognizable due to bloating and
discoloration.[143] The FBI reportedly checked his fingerprints
twice, a seemingly futile gesture since it is a precise operation. A
more logical route would have been to check dental records.[144]
Several researchers familiar with the case feel that the body may
not have been Jones. Even if the person at the site was one of the
"doubles," it does not mean Jones is still alive. He may have been
killed at an earlier point.
What Was Jonestown?
According to one story, Jones was seeking a place on earth that
would survive the effects of nuclear war, relying only on an
article in Esquire magazine for his list.[145] The real reason for
his locations in Brazil, California, Guyana and elsewhere deserve
more scrutiny.[146] At one point Jones wanted to set up in
Grenada, and he invited then-Prime Minister Sir Eric Gairy to visit
the Temple in San Francisco.[147] He invested $200,000 in the
Grenada National Bank in 1977 to pave the way, and some
$76,000 was still there after the massacre.[148]
His final choice, the Matthew's Ridge section in Guyana is an
interesting one. It was originally the site of a Union Carbide
bauxite and manganese mine, and Jones used the dock they left
behind.[149] At an earlier point, it had been one of seven possible
sites chosen for the relocation of the Jews after World War II.[150]
Plans to inhabit the jungles of Guyana's interior with cheap labor
date back to 1919.[151] Resources buried there are among the
richest in the world, and include manganese, diamonds, gold,
bauxite and uranium.[152] Forbes Burnham, the Prime Minister,
had participated in a scheme to repatriate Blacks from the UK to
work in the area. Like all earlier attempts, it failed.[153]
Once chosen, the site was leased and worked on by a select crew
of Temple members in preparation for the arrival of the body of
the church. The work was done in cooperation with Burnham and
the U.S. Embassy there.[154] But if these were idealists seeking a
better life, their arrival in "Utopia" was a strange welcome. Piled
into busses in San Francisco, they had driven to Florida. From
there, Pan American charter planes delivered them to
Guyana.[155] When they arrived at the airport, the Blacks were
taken off the plane, bound and gagged.[156] The deception had
finally been stripped bare of all pretense. The Blacks were so
isolated and controlled that neighbors as close as five miles from
the site did not know that Blacks lived at Jonestown. The only
public representatives seen in Guyana were white.[157] Guyanese
children were "bought" also.[158]
According to survivors' reports, they entered a virtual slave labor
camp. Worked for 16 to 18 hours daily, they were forced to live
in cramped quarters on minimum rations, usually rice, bread and
sometimes rancid meat. Kept on a schedule of physical and
mental exhaustion, they were also forced to stay awake at night
and listen to lectures by Jones. Threats and abuse became more
common.[159] The camp medical staff under Dr. Lawrence
Schacht was known to perform painful suturing without
anaesthetic. They administered drugs, and kept daily medical
records.[160] Infractions of the rules or disloyalty led to
increasingly harsh punishments, including forced drugging,
sensory isolation in an underground box, physical torture and
public sexual rape and humiliation. Beatings and verbal abuse
were commonplace. Only the special guards were treated
humanely and fed decently.[161] People with serious injuries were
flown out, but few ever returned.[162] Perhaps the motto at
Jonestown should have been the same as the one at Auschwitz,
developed by Larry Schacht's namesake, Dr. Hjalmar Schacht, the
Nazi Minister of Economics, "Arheit Macht Frei," or "Work Will
Make You Free." Guyana even considered setting up an
"Auschwitz-like museum" at the site, but abandoned the
idea.[163]
By this point, Jones had amassed incredible wealth. Press
estimates ranged from $26 million to $2 billion, including bank
accounts, foreign investments and real estate. Accounts were set
up worldwide by key members, often in the personal name of
certain people in the Temple.[164] Much of this money, listed
publicly after the massacre, disappeared mysteriously. It was a
fortune far too large to have come from membership alone. The
receivership set up by the government settled on a total of $10
million. Of special interest were the Swiss bank accounts opened
million. Of special interest were the Swiss bank accounts opened
in Panama, the money taken from the camp, and the extensive
investments in Barclay's Bank.[165] Other sources of income
included the German banking family of Lisa Philips Layton,
Larry's mother.[166] Also, close to $65,000 a month income was
claimed to come from welfare and social security checks for 199
members, sent to the Temple followers and signed over to
Jones.[167] In addition, there are indications that Blakey and other
members were supplementing the Temple funds with
international smuggling of guns and drugs.[168] At one point,
Charles Garry noted that Jones and his community were "literally
sitting on a gold mine." Mineral distribution maps of Guyana
suggest he was right.[169]
To comprehend this well-financed, sinister operation, we must
abandon the myth that this was a religious commune and study
instead the history that led to its formation. Jonestown was an
experiment, part of a 30-year program called MK-ULTRA, the CIA
and military intelligence code name for mind control.[170] A close
study of Senator Ervin's 1974 report, Individual Rights and the
Government's Role in Behavior Modification, shows that these
agencies had certain "target populations" in mind, for both
individual and mass control. Blacks, women, prisoners, the
elderly, the young, and inmates of psychiatric wards were
selected as "potentially violent."[171] There were plans in
California at the time for a Center for the Study and Reduction of
Violence, expanding on the horrific work of Dr. José Delgado,
Drs. Mark and Ervin, and Dr. Jolly West, experts in implantation,
psychosurgery, and tranquilizers. The guinea pigs were to be
drawn from the ranks of the "target populations," and taken to
an isolated military missile base in California.[172] In that same
period, Jones began to move his Temple members to Jonestown.
The were the exact population selected for such tests.[173]
The meticulous daily notes and drug records kept by Larry
Schacht disappeared, but evidence did not.[174] The history of MKULTRA
and its sister programs (MK-DELTA, ARTICHOKE, BLUEBIRD, etc.)
records a combination of drugs, drug mixtures, electroshock and
torture as methods for control. The desired results ranged from
temporary and permanent amnesia, uninhibited confessions, and
creation of second personalities, to programmed assassins and
preconditioned suicidal urges. One goal was the ability to control
mass populations, especially for cheap labor.[175] Dr. Delgado
told Congress that he hoped for a future where a technology
would control workers in the field and troops at war with
electronic remote signals. He found it hard to understand why
people would complain about electrodes implanted in their
people would complain about electrodes implanted in their
brains to make them "both happy and productive."[176]
On the scene at Jonestown, Guyanese troops discovered a large
cache of drugs, enough to drug the entire population of
Georgetown, Guyana (well over 200,000)[177] for more than a
year. According to survivors, these were being used regularly "to
control" a population of only 1,100 people.[178] One footlocker
contained 11,000 doses of thorazine, a dangerous tranquilizer.
Drugs used in the testing for MK-ULTRA were found in
abundance, including sodium pentathol (a truth serum), chloral
hydrate (a hypnotic), demerol, thalium (confuses thinking), and
many others.[179] Schacht had supplies of haliopareael and
largatil as well, two other major tranquilizers.[180] The actual
description of life at Jonestown is that of a tightly run
concentration camp, complete with medical and psychiatric
experimentation. The stresses and isolation of the victims is
typical of sophisticated brainwashing techniques. The drugs and
special tortures add an additional experimental aspect to the
horror.[181] This more clearly explains the medical tags on the
bodies, and why they had to be removed. It also suggests an
additional motive for frustrating any chemical autopsies, since
these drugs would have been found in the system of the dead.
The story of Jonestown is that of a gruesome experiment, not a
religious utopian society. On the eve of the massacre, Forbes
Burnham was reportedly converted to "born again" Christianity
by members of the Full Gospel Christian Businessman's
Association, including Lionel Luckhoo, a Temple lawyer in
Guyana.[182] This same group, based in California, also
reportedly converted Guatemalan dictator Rios Montt prior to his
massacres there and they were in touch with Jim Jones in
Ukiah.[183] They currently conduct the White House prayer
breakfasts for Mr. Reagan.[184] With Ryan on his way to
Jonestown, the seal of secrecy was broken. In a desperate
attempt to test their conditioning methods, the Jonestown elite
apparently tried to implement a real suicide drill.[185] Clearly, it
led to a revolt, and the majority of people fled, unaware that
there were people waiting to catch them.
One Too Many Jonestowns
Author Don Freed, an associate of Mark Lane, said that Martin
Luther King, "if he could see Johnstown would recognize it as the
next step in his agenda, and he would say, one, two, three, many
more Jonestowns."[186] Strangely enough, almost every map of
more Jonestowns."[186] Strangely enough, almost every map of
Guyana in the major press located Jonestown at a different place
following the killings. One map even shows a second site in the
area called "Johnstown."[187] Perhaps there were multiple camps
and Leo Ryan was only shown the one they hoped he would see.
In any case, the Jonestown model survives, and similar camps,
and their sinister designs, show up in many places.
Inside Guyana itself, approximately 25 miles to the south of
Matthews Ridge, is a community called Hilltown, named after
religious leader Rabbi Hill. Hill has used the names Abraham
Israel and Rabbi Emmanuel Washington. Hilltown, set up about
the same time as Jonestown, followed the departure of David Hill,
who was known in Cleveland, a fugitive of the U.S. courts. Hill
rules with an "iron fist" over some 8,000 Black people from
Guyana and America who believe they are the Lost Tribe of Israel
and the real Hebrews of Biblical prophecy.[188] Used as strongarm
troops, and "internal mercenaries" to insure Burnham's
election, as were Jonestown members, the Hilltown people were
allowed to clear the Jonestown site of shoes and unused
weapons, both in short supply in Guyana.[189] Hill says his
followers would gladly kill themselves at his command, but he
would survive since, unlike Jones, he is "in control."[190]
Similar camps were reported at the time in the Philippines.
Perhaps the best known example is the fascist torture camp in
Chile known as Colonia Dignidad. Also a religious cult built
around a single individual, this one came from Germany to Chile
in 1961. In both cases, the camp was their "Agricultural
Experiment." Sealed and protected by the dreaded Chilean DINA
police, Colonia Dignidad serves as a torture chamber for political
dissidents. To the Jonestown monstrosities, they have added
dogs specially trained to attack human genitals.[191] The
operations there have included the heavy hand of decapitation
specialist Michael Townley Welch, an American CIA agent, as well
as reported visits by Nazi war criminals Dr. Josef Mengele and
Martin Bormann. Currently, another such campsite exists at
Pisagua, Chile.[192] Temple member Jeannie Mills, now dead,
reported having seen actual films of a Chilean torture camp while
at Jonestown. The only source possible at the time was the
Chilean fascists themselves.[193]
In the current period, Jonestown is being "repopulated" with
100,000 Laotian Hmong people. Many of them grew opium for
CIA money in Southeast Asia. Over 1,000 reside there already
under a scheme designed by Billy Graham's nephew Ernest, and
members of the Federation of Evangelical Ministries Association
members of the Federation of Evangelical Ministries Association
in Wheaton, Illinois (World Vision, World Medical Relief,
Samaritan's Purse, and Carl McIntyre's International Council of
Christian Churches).[194] Similar plans devised by the Peace Corps
included moving inner-city Blacks from America to Jamaica, and
other Third World countries. And World Relief attempted to move
the population of the Island of Dominica to Jonestown.[195] It is
only a matter of time before another Jonestown will be exposed,
perhaps leading again to massive slaughter.
The Links to U.S. Intelligence Agencies
Our story so far has hinted at connections to U.S. intelligence,
such as the long-term friendship of Jones and CIA associate Dan
Mitrione. But the ties are much more direct when a full picture of
the operation is revealed. To start with, the history of Forbes
Burnham's rise to power in Guyana is fraught with the clear
implication of a CIA coup d'état to oust troublesome independent
leader Cheddi Jagan.[196] In addition, the press and other
evidence indicated the presence of a CIA agent on the scene at
the time of the massacre. This man, Richard Dwyer, was working
as Deputy Chief of Mission for the U.S. Embassy in Guyana.[197]
Identified in Who's Who in the CIA, he has been involved since
1959, and was last stationed in Martinique.[198] Present at the
camp site and the airport strip, his accounts were used by the
State Department to confirm the death of Leo Ryan. At the
massacre, Jones said, "Get Dwyer out of here" just before the
killings began.[199]
Other Embassy personnel, who knew the situation at Jonestown
well, were also connected to intelligence work. U.S. Ambassador
John Burke, who served in the CIA with Dwyer in Thailand, was an
Embassy official described by Philip Agee as working for the CIA
since 1963. A Reagan appointee to the CIA, he is still employed
by the Agency, usually on State Department assignments.[200]
Burke tried to stop Ryan's investigation.[201] Also at the Embassy
was Chief Consular officer Richard McCoy, described as "close to
Jones," who worked for military intelligence and was "on loan"
from the Defense Department at the time of the massacre.[202]
According to a standard source, "The U.S. embassy in
Georgetown housed the Georgetown CIA station. It now appears
that the majority and perhaps all of the embassy officials were
CIA officers operating under State Department covers . . ."[203]
Dan Webber, who was sent to the site of the massacre the day
after, was also named as CIA.[204] Not only did the State
Department conceal all reports of violations at Jonestown from
Department conceal all reports of violations at Jonestown from
Congressman Leo Ryan, but the Embassy regularly provided
Jones with copies of all congressional inquiries under the
Freedom of Information Act.[205]
Ryan had challenged the Agency's overseas operations before, as
a member of the House Committee responsible for oversight on
intelligence. He was an author of the controversial Hughes-Ryan
Amendment that would have required CIA disclosure in advance
to the congressional committees of all planned covert
operations. The Amendment was defeated shortly after his
death.[206]
American intelligence agencies have a sordid history of
cooperative relations with Nazi war criminals and international
fascism.[207] In light of this, consider the curious ties of the
family members of the top lieutenants to Jim Jones. The Layton
family is one example. Dr. Laurence Layton was Chief of
Chemical and Biological Warfare Research at Dugway Proving
Grounds in Utah, for many years, and later worked as Director of
Missile and Satellite Development at the Navy Propellant Division,
Indian Head, Maryland.[208] His wife, Lisa, had come from a rich
German family. Her father, Hugo, had represented I.G. Farben as
a stockbroker.[209] Her stories about hiding her Jewish past from
her children for most of her life, and her parents' escape from a
train heading for a Nazi concentration camp seem shallow, as do
Dr. Layton's Quaker religious beliefs. The same family sent
money to Jonestown regularly.[210] Their daughter, Debbie, met
and married George Philip Blakey in an exclusive private school
in England. Blakey's parents have extensive stock holdings in
Solvay drugs, a division of the Nazi cartel I.G. Farben.[211] He also
contributed financially.[212]
Terri Buford's father, Admiral Charles T. Buford, worked with
Navy Intelligence.[213] In addition, Blakey was reportedly running
mercenaries from Jonestown to CIA-backed UNITA forces in
Angola.[214] Maria Katsaris' father was a minister with the Greek
Orthodox Church, a common conduit of CIA fundings, and Maris
claimed she had proof he was CIA. She was shot in the head, and
her death was ruled a suicide, but at one point Charles Beikman
was charged with killing her.[215] On their return to the United
States, the "official" survivors were represented by attorney
Joseph Blatchford who had been named prior to that time in a
scandal involving CIA infiltration of the Peace Corps.[216] Almost
everywhere you look at Jonestown, U.S. intelligence and fascism
rear their ugly heads.
The connection of intelligence agencies to cults is nothing new.
A simple but revealing example is the Unification Church, tied to
both the Korean CIA (i.e., American CIA in Korea), and the
international fascist network known as the World Anti-
Communist League (WACL). The Moonies hosted WACL's first
international conference.[217] What distinguished Jonestown was
both the level of control and the openly sinister involvement. It
was imperative that they cover their tracks.[218]
Maria Katsaris sent Michael Prokes, Tim Carter, and another
guard out at the last minute with $500,000 cash in a suitcase,
and instructions for a drop point. Her note inside suggests the
funds were destined for the Soviet Union.[219] Prokes later shot
himself at a San Francisco press conference, where he claimed to
be an FBI informant.[220] Others reported meeting with KGB agents
and plans to move to Russia.[221] This disinformation was part of
a "red smear" to be used if they had to abandon the operation.
The Soviet Union had no interest in the money and even less in
Jonestown. The cash was recovered by the Guyanese
government.[222]
Their hidden funding may include more intelligence links. A
mysterious account in Panama, totaling nearly $5 million in the
name of an "Associacion Pro Religiosa do San Pedro, S.A." was
located.[223] This unknown Religious Association of St. Peter was
probably one of the twelve phony companies set up by
Archbishop Paul Marcinkus to hide the illegal investments of
Vatican funds through the scandal-ridden Banco
Ambrosiano.[224] A few days after the story broke about the
accounts, the President of Panama, and most of the government
resigned, Roberto Calvi of Banco Ambrosiano was murdered, and
the Jonestown account disappeared from public scrutiny and
court record.[225]
The direct orders to cover up the cause of death came from the
top levels of the American government. Zbigniew Brezezinsky
delegated to Robert Pastor, and he in turn ordered Lt. Col.
Gordon Sumner to strip the bodies of identity.[226] Pastor is now
Deputy Director of the CIA.[227] One can only wonder how many
others tied to the Jonestown operation were similarly promoted.
The Strange Connection
to the Murder of Martin Luther King
One of the persistent problems in researching Jonestown is that
it seems to lead to so many other criminal activities, each with
it seems to lead to so many other criminal activities, each with
its own complex history and cast of characters. Perhaps the most
disturbing of these is the connection that appears repeatedly
between the characters in the Jonestown story and the key
people involved in the murder and investigating of Martin Luther
King.
The first clue to this link appeared in the personal histories of
the members of the Ryan investigation team who were so
selectively and deliberately killed at Port Kaituma. Don Harris, a
veteran NBC reporter, had been the only network newsman on
the scene to cover Martin Luther King's activity in Memphis at the
time of King's assassination. He had interviewed key witnesses at
the site. His coverage of the urban riots that followed won him
an Emmy award.[228] Gregory Robinson, a "fearless" journalist
from the San Francisco Examiner, had photographed the same
riots in Washington, D.C. When he was approached for copies of
the films by Justice Department officials, he threw the negatives
into the Potomac river.[229]
The role of Mark Lane, who served as attorney for Jim Jones, is
even more clearly intertwined.[230] Lane had co-authored a book
with Dick Gregory, claiming FBI complicity in the King
murder.[231] He was hired as the attorney for James Earl Ray,
accused assassin, when Ray testified before the House Select
Committee on Assassinations about King.[232] Prior to this
testimony, Ray was involved in an unusual escape plot at Brushy
Mountain State Prison.[233] The prisoner who had helped engineer
the escape plot was later inexplicably offered an early, parole by
members of the Tennessee Governor's office. These officials, and
Governor Blanton himself, were to come under close public
scrutiny and face legal charges in regard to bribes taken to
arrange illegal early pardons for prisoners.[234]
One of the people living at Jonestown was ex-FBI agent Wesley
Swearington, who at least publicly condemned the COINTELPRO
operations and other abuses, based on stolen classified
documents, at the Jonestown site. Lane had reportedly met with
him there at least a year before the massacre. Terri Buford said
the documents were passed on to Charles Garry. Lane used
information from Swearingen in his thesis on the FBI and King's
murder. Swearingen later served as a key witness in suits against
the Justice Department brought by the Socialist Workers
Party.[235] When Larry Flynt, the flamboyant publisher of Hustler
magazine, offered a, $1 million reward leading to the capture
and conviction of the John F. Kennedy killers, the long distance
number listed to collect information and leads was being
number listed to collect information and leads was being
answered by Mark Lane and Wesley Swearingen.[236]
With help from officials in Tennessee, Governor Blanton's office,
Lane managed to get legal custody of a woman who had been
incarcerated in the Tennessee state psychiatric system for nearly
eight years.[237] This woman, Grace Walden Stephens, had been a
witness in the King murder.[238] She was living at the time in
Memphis in a rooming house across from the hotel when Martin
Luther King was shot.[239] The official version of events had Ray
located in the common bathroom of the rooming house, and
claimed he used a rifle to murder King from that window.[240]
Grace Stephens did, indeed, see a man run from the bathroom,
past her door and down to the street below.[241] A rifle, later
linked circumstantially to James Earl Ray, was found inside a
bundle at the base of the rooming house stairs, and identified as
the murder weapon.[242] But Grace, who saw the man clearly,
refused to identify him as Ray when shown photographs by the
FBI.[243] Her testimony was never introduced at the trial. The FBI
relied, instead, on the word of her common law husband, Charles
Stephens, who was drunk and unconscious at the time of the
incident.[244] Her persistence in saying that it was not James Earl
Ray was used at her mental competency hearings as evidence
against her, and she disappeared into the psychiatric system.[245]
Grace Walden Stephens took up residence in Memphis with Lane,
her custodian, and Terri Buford, a key Temple member who had
returned to the U.S. before the killings to live with Lane.[246]
While arranging for her to testify before the Select Committee on
Ray's behalf, Lane and Buford were plotting another fate for
Grace Stephens. Notes from Buford to Jones, found in the
aftermath of the killings, discussed arrangements with Lane to
move Grace Stephens to Jonestown.[247] The problem that
remained was lack of a passport, but Buford suggested either
getting a passport on the black market, or using the passport of
former Temple member Maxine Swaney.[248] Swaney, dead for
nearly 2-1/2 years since her departure from the Ukiah camp,
was in no position to argue and Jones apparently kept her
passport with him.[249] Whether Grace ever arrived at Jonestown
is unclear.
Lane was also forced to leave Ray in the midst of testimony to
the Select Committee when he got word that Ryan was planning
to visit. Lane had attempted to discourage the trip earlier in a
vaguely threatening letter.[250] Now he rushed to be sure he
arrived with the group.[251] At the scene, he failed to warn Ryan
and others, knowing that the sandwiches and other food might
and others, knowing that the sandwiches and other food might
be drugged, but refrained from eating it himself.[252] Later,
claiming that he and Charles Garry would write the official
history of the "revolutionary suicide," Lane was allowed to leave
the pieces of underwear to mark their way back to
Georgetown.[253] If true, it seems an unlikely method if they were
in any fear of pursuit. They had heard gunfire and screams back
at the camp.[254] Lane was reportedly well aware of the forced
drugging and suicide drills at Jonestown before Ryan arrived.[255]
Another important figure in the murder of Martin Luther King
was his mother, Alberta. A few weeks after the first public
announcement by Coretta Scott King that she believed her
husband's murder was part of a conspiracy, Mrs. Alberta King
was brutally shot to death in Atlanta, while attending church
services.[256] Anyone who had seen the physical wounds suffered
by King might have been an adverse witness to the official
version, since the Wound angles did not match the ballistic
direction of a shot from the rooming house.[257] Her death also
closely coincided with the reopening of the Tennessee state court
review of Ray's conviction based on a guilty plea, required by a
6th Circuit decision.[258] The judge in that case reportedly
refused to allow witnesses from beyond a 100-mile radius from
the courtroom.[259]
The man convicted of shooting King's mother was Marcus Wayne
Chenault. His emotional affect following the murder was
unusual. Grinning, he asked if he had hit anyone.[260] He had
reportedly been dropped off at the church by people he knew in
Ohio.[261] While at Ohio State University, he was part of a group
known as "the Troop," run by a Black minister and gun collector
who used the name Rabbi Emmanuel Israel. This man, described
in the press as a "mentor" for Chenault, left the area immediately
after the shooting.[262] In the same period, Rabbi Hill traveled
from Ohio to Guyana and set up Hilltown, using similar aliases,
and preaching the same message of a "black Hebrew elite."[263]
Chenault confided to SCLC leaders that he was one of many
killers who were working to assassinate a long list of Black
leadership. The names he said were on this list coincided with
similar "death lists" distributed by the KKK, and linked to the
COINTELPRO operations in the 60s.[264]
The real backgrounds and identities of Marcus Wayne Chenault
and Rabbi Hill may never be discovered. But one thing is certain:
Martin Luther King Would never had countenanced the
preachings of Jim Jones, had he lived to hear them.[265]
Aftermath
In the face of such horror, it may seem little compensation to
know that a part of the truth has been unearthed. But for the
families and some of the Survivors, the truth, however painful, is
the only path to being relieved of the burden of their doubts. It's
hard to believe that President Carter was calling on us at the
time not to "overreact." The idea that a large community of Black
people would not only stand by and be poisoned at the
suggestion of Jim Jones, but would allow their children to be
murdered first, is a monstrous lie, and a racist insult.[266] We
now know that the most direct description of Jonestown is that it
was a Black genocide plan. One Temple director, Joyce Shaw,
described the Jonestown massacre as, "some kind of horrible
government experiments, or some sort of sick racial thing, a
plan like that of the Germans to exterminate Blacks."[267] If we
refuse to look further into this nightmarish event, there will be
more Jonestowns to come. They will move from Guyana to our
own back yard.
The cast of characters is neither dead nor inactive. Key members
of the armed guard were ordered to be on board the Temple
Ship, Cudjoe -- at the hour of the massacre they were on a
supply run to Trinidad. George Phillip Blakey phoned his fatherin-
law, Dr. Lawrence Layton, from Panama after the event.[268] At
least ten members of the Temple remained on the boat, and set
up a new community in Trinidad while Nigel Slingger, a Grenada
businessman and insurance broker for Jonestown, repaired the
400-ton shipping vessel. Then Charles Touchette, Paul McCann,
Stephan Jones, and George Blakey set up an "open house" in
Grenada with the others. McCann spoke about starting a
shipping company to "finance the continued work of the original
Temple."[269]
That "work" may have included the mysterious operations of the
mental hospital in Grenada that eluded government security by
promising free medical care.[270] The hospital as operated by Sir
Geoffrey Bourne, Chancellor of the St. George's University
Medical School, was also staffed by his son Dr. Peter Bourne.[271]
His son's history includes work with psychological experiments
and USAID in Vietnam, the methadone clinics in the U.S., and a
drug scandal in the Carter White House.[272] The mental hospital
was the only structure bombed during the U.S. invasion of
Grenada in 1983. This was part of a plan to put Sir Eric Gairy
back in power.[273] Were additional experiments going on at the
back in power.[273] Were additional experiments going on at the
site?[274]
In addition, the killers of Leo Ryan and others at Port Kaituma
were never accounted for fully. The trial of Larry Layton was
mishandled by the Guyanese courts, and the U.S. system as
well.[275] No adequate evidentiary hearings have occurred either
at the trial or in state and congressional reviews. The Jonestown
killers, trained assassins and mercenaries, are not on trial. They
might be working in Africa or Central America. Their
participation in Jonestown can be used as an "explanation" for
their involvement in later murders here, such as the case of the
attack on school children in Los Angeles.[276] They should be
named and located.
The money behind Jonestown was never fully examined or
recovered. The court receivership only collected a fraction. The
bulk went to pay back military operations and burial costs.
Families of the dead were awarded only minimal amounts.[277]
Some filed suit, unsuccessfully, to learn more about the
circumstances of the deaths, and who was responsible. Joe
Holsinger, Leo Ryan's close friend and assistant, studied the case
for two years and reached the same unnerving conclusions:
these people were murdered, there was evidence of a mass
mind-control experiment, and the top levels of civilian and
military intelligence were involved.[278] He worked with Ryan's
family members to prove the corruption and injustice, but they
could barely afford the immense court costs and case
preparation. Their suit, as well as a similar one brought by exmembers
and families of the victims, had to be dropped for lack
of funds.[279]
The international operations of World Vision and the related
evangelical groups continue unabashed. World Vision official
John W. Hinckley, Sr. was on his way to a Guatemalan water
project run by the organization on the day his son shot at
president Reagan.[280] A mysterious "double" of Hinckley, Jr., a
man named Richardson, followed Hinckley's path from Colorado
to Connecticut, and even wrote love letters to Jody Foster.
Richardson was a follower of Carl McIntyre's International
Council of Christian Churches, and attended their Bible School in
Florida. He was arrested shortly after the assassination attempt
in New York's Port Au...

Thanks for all these Peter. A lot of heavy reading. Skolnick was one of the first researchers who introduced me to so much in 1973. I had all his tapes, papers. He and his then partner Bottos also spoke at the first ever Politics of Conspiracy conference at Boston U in Jan. 1975. In the summer of 74 I went to DC to look up Skolnick's references in the Liab of Congress. Amazing what one can find, quietly in the stacks. Hidden in plain sight.
He would become known as the sabotaging of planes expert, especially that of Dorothy Hunt. His Committee to clean up the courts was famous in Chicago.
RIP to both of these great researchers. Who is taking their place? Anyone?
