Oswald Autopsy questions - Martin White - 08-10-2014
In discussion of the two Oswald theory, Paul Groody mentioned that the body that was exhumed in 1981 (or at least the head) had not been through an autopsy. He said that when he saw Oswald in the funeral home, the skull cap had been removed and replaced as part of the autopsy. This is all normal.
However, the other day I was looking at some autopsy pictures of Oswald, and whilst the Y incision had been stitched up, there was no sign of a craniotomy having been performed on Oswald.
Was I just looking at an incomplete set of photos? Was there any evidence that Earl Rose removed Oswald's skull cap?

From memory...
Dr. Earl Rose did a thorough autopsy on Oswald in 1963. He made meticulous notes about scars and other things, and included a precise weight of the brain, which most people say can only be determined by removing it from the skull.... which necessitates a craniotomy, although Rose didn't say that specifically in the autopsy report.
Mortician Paul Groody was present at both the original burial and the 1981 exhumation. Immediately after the exhumation, Groody seemed to believe it was the same man he originally buried. But that evening or the next day, he said, he remembered the craniotomy and seemed absolutely certain the man he re-examined had an intact skull. He even wrote a book about his observations, though I can't recall the name.
The real kicker for me though is that "Lee Harvey Oswald" (American-born LEE Oswald) while in the Marine Corps shot himself just above his left elbow with a derringer pistol. The slug remained in his arm for some days, until doctors made a separate incision in the back of his arm to remove the bullet. Both Rose and Groody clearly indicated there were no scars on Oswald's upper left arm.

I am intrigued by the whole "Harvey and Lee" thing.
I would agree that if Rose gave the brain weight it would seem likely that he did indeed remove the skull cap and the brain. I am told that this is normal and Rose was known to be meticulous.
Perhaps the cut is in the hairline and so not visible in the pictures. In the picture taken of Oswald in the coffin, it does look a little more like there is a cut near the hairline.
As an aside, did you know that the original coffin that Oswald was buried in from 1963 to 1981 was recently sold at auction? Apparently when Oswald was reinterred he was put in a new coffin. Who the hell would want to buy a coffin that's been in the ground for 20 years?

States that the Brain weighs 1450 gms and goes on to described the brain in detail.
It would seem to me that a craniotomy was performed - no other way to get that info on the brain.
He is also missing the scar above his left elbow from the gunshot wound in Japan, a mastoid scar
