Great Film About The American Propaganda-Media-National Security-Corporate Complex - Peter Lemkin - 14-10-2014

Shadows of Liberty reveals the extraordinary truth behind the news media: censorship, cover-ups and corporate control.
Filmmaker Jean-Philippe Tremblay takes a journey through the darker corridors of the US media, where global conglomerates call the shots. For decades, their overwhelming influence has distorted news journalism and compromised its values.
In highly revealing stories, renowned journalists, activists and academics give insider accounts of a broken media system. Controversial news reports are suppressed, people are censored for speaking out, and lives are shattered as the arena for public expression is turned into a private profit zone.
Tracing the story of media manipulation through the years, Shadows of Liberty poses a crucial question: why have we let a handful of powerful corporations write the news? Media reform is urgent and freedom of the press is fundamental.

I would argue that whilst profit is clearly a powerful motivating force for big media, there is a second force in play too, namely to adhere to the official US propaganda line about itself. For example, anything the US does militarily or spook-wise overseas is for freedom and democracy and, therefore, for the better of mankind (or at least is benign), and that the US political machine at home is honest and represents a full, functioning and exemplary model of democracy and freedom --- and that anything that contradicts these two essentially and permanently reinforced media points are to be ignored and disparaged.

This is simply because the US government - like most governments - are in place to represent the wishes of the wealthy elite and to support, by any means necessary, big business interests at home and overseas.

It's a shadow play.

Not a democracy.
