Not enough information at this stage to know what's going on but ther is a hostage situation unfolding in Belgium. Might just be soe bad drug deal or other garden variety criminal event. Might be something else completely.

Police response: Special officers are attending the scene in Ghent, Belgium Four armed men have reportedly taken a hostage leading to a tense standoff with police at an apartment building in Belgium.
Around 30 special police have been called out to the developing situation in Ghent, a city in the north west of the country, this morning.

The Belgium hostage drama comes as the police in Australia continue to deal with a standoff with a suspected gunman in Syndey, who is holding a number of hostages inside a cafe. Follow live coverage of the Sydney siege here.

Gunmen in seige in Ghent, Belgium Pictures have been posted online of officers wearing masks and body armour outside the residential building, which appears to be in a busy street lined with shops and eateries.
Residents have been asked to stay indoors as police taped off the site this morning, local media has reported.

According to comments on Twitter, a police helicopter has been seen circling the location from above.
"Four armed men invaded an apartment building," police spokesman Manuel Mugica Gonzalez told de Standaard.

"They're in the building but it is not clear what happens inside. We have set up a security zone and asked residents to stay indoors for their own safety. For now, no-one [has been] evacuated. "
Ghent has a population of around 250,000 and is in the Flemish region of the country.
