Skeptics and debunkers - Tracy Riddle - 05-08-2015 Every time I stumble across a website, forum or YT video featuring self-styled "skeptics" and "debunkers," with their endless attempts to disprove all "conspiracy theories," I feel that Orwell's 1984 has finally come to pass. The very language itself has been turned inside out. Those who defend official stories, who believe corporate media accounts, are now the "critical thinkers"! This is truly absurd. WE are the skeptics and debunkers, WE are the critical thinkers - THEY are the credulous, childlike believers in and defenders of official mythology (assuming they are sincere, and not trolls). Our recent WC-defending guest patted himself on the back: "I used to read books on science and critical thinking. I learned about "self-delusion"..." Yup, he sure did. He learned how to delude himself so completely, he may actually believe he is here to enlighten us. I've spent my life questioning everything. I've changed my views on so many things in the last 30+ years (especially the last 10 years), it's just staggering. And I will keep doing that as I learn new things, because that is what life is really all about. The phony skeptics are the ones who are afraid to question their consensus reality and think for themselves. Even their aggressive, militant atheism (ala Richard Dawkins) is simply a new kind of fundamentalism (though a nihilistic one). Skeptics and debunkers - Albert Doyle - 05-08-2015 Neo-cons have a nasty habit of accusing others of what they are guilty of. For instance, after the Bush administration there was a strong internet movement accusing Obama of being a Nazi-like fascist. I believe, though I can't document it, that this tactic originated with the nazis. As well as always playing the victim. Skeptics and debunkers - Drew Phipps - 23-08-2015 This kind of behavior is endemic to all human beings, not just conservatives. Jesus said, circa 2000 years ago, "Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." Matthew 7.5 Such hypocrisy arrives with being judgmental of others. I like what Tracy said, about asking questions. An open mind is a good thing, Tracy. Admire you or anyone for that matter for having the courage to seek truth rather than falling potentially victim to "the world is flat" syndrome. I'm getting a much later start than you in questioning everything, but better late than never they say. |
