I ventured over to the Stormfront forum to check out the Trump discussion. I'd heard that Stormfront had to increase their server capacity to deal with an increase in members recently. A very long thread (Donald Trump Is Just The Opening Act. Yes, we will live to see a Fourth Reich) is actively debating whether The Donald is the man who will lead the white race to a glorious Fourth Reich. The American posters seem to be excited about Trump, the foreign posters are more skeptical. A few sample comments:
Trump is attacking the very underpinnings of White genocide which are third world invasion and political correctness. That is why every component of the machine, including the Republican party, wants him gone. Except the people don't want it, and you can't silence the people unless they want to be silenced.
Impressive example of over the top American optimism.
It's almost as strong as the American ability to layer on cheese at the end of movies

I think Trump has a way of appealing to a surprising variety of people depending on what they imagine is behind his bullshit. I think he could get Hillary elected quite nicely. And then he would want something in return.

Yes, I'm sure he will want some thing. And I'm sure he will be offered some thing also. Yes, a surprising amount of people respond positively to him. It is truly a sad state in the US when he sounds reasonable to others.

For example, Trump says he thinks if Putin wants to kill terrorists in Syria, let him. He says Putin is a business man and so they can talk -- different from the gritted jaw Obama. Liberals, moderate Republicans, and libertarians could buy this. A wide variety of Republicans and Centrist Dems could like the his close the border rhetoric. He said nice things about Sarah Palin and said she could be in his cabinet. Some people could be happy; others would dismiss that as bogus.
People can make up their own story, just like they did with Hitler.

Trump is racially insensitive, but I don't think that in his heart of hearts he is a genuine racialist. He's too much a part of the cosmopolitan NYC culture. He'll do business with anyone - Jews, Arabs, hispanics, blacks. He's basically a narcissist who doesn't believe in anything but himself.
I still don't discount the idea that the Clintons put him up to this run for the GOP nomination, to help Hillary and fragment the GOP. He'll get something in return - maybe a big government contract.

I think he would have to run as a third party candidate, despite his "promise." I expect him to be on the ballot depending on how the polling is going.
EDIT: he would have to structure his campaign to maximize the Hillary vote, whatever that would be.

I think Trump will make an independent run as well. He'll accuse the Republican Party of violating their end of the deal for his promise, by calling him a racist, and the party management telling people that his proposals are not Republican. Then he'll sue. Then he'll run as an independent, and probably gather additional support from "The Wing of the Democratic Party That Hates Hilary," and from people who'd rather vote against the 2 party system than for anyone else, than he already has now.
Who knows, maybe he'll tap Bernie Sanders as a running mate.
