The two Rubys - R.K. Locke - 20-03-2016 I noticed that there is an ongoing discussion on the EF as to whether the Jack Rubinstein who reportedly worked for Richard Nixon in 1947 is the same Jack Ruby that we know today as the assassin of Lee Harvey Oswald. Jim DiEugenio commented: "LBJ was from Texas. Ruby was in Chicago at the time." This is technically true, but having checked my own Ruby timeline I noticed the following: 1940 - Paul Roland Jones moves to Dallas at request of Nick de John "to survey the area as to the possibility of taking over gambling, slot machines, bookies, and the numbers racket." 1942 - Jones starts gambling activities in Dallas; purchases San Jacinto Liquor Store and other properties with funds from de John. 1945 - Purchases Southwestern Amusement Co. and various other companies as front man for Marcus Lipsky. Jones arrested with Sam Yaras, Lou Schneider, Julius Breakstone, Leo Goldsand, Marcus Lipsky, James Barsell, Paul Labriola, James Weinberg and William Joseph Messina for investigation on swindling. Told to leave Dallas. 1946 - Jones, representing Jake Guzik/Chicago syndicate, meets with Steve Guthrie via George Butler to discuss mob operations in Dallas. Pat Manno and Jack Knapp sent from Chicago at various times. 1947 - Ruby moves to Dallas, having visited a number of times previously. I also had a few links saves in this file to provide background and context, including: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.assassination.jfk/mpbpvr15rx0 https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1957&dat=19920105&id=RGxGAAAAIBAJ&sjid=7ugMAAAAIBAJ&pg=2811,814478&hl=en http://quixoticjoust.blogspot.co.uk/2011/06/jack-rubys-money-man.html FWIW. The two Rubys - Drew Phipps - 21-03-2016 Isn't the prevailing wisdom on this matter that Dallas mob activities were controlled by the Civello Family, who were under the control of Marcello in New Orleans? I can never figure out if the Chicago mob is "trespassing" in Marcello territory, if sending Ruby was an act of the Mob. It is also said that Ruby had many contacts with Joseph Civello, and especially with one of his capos Joseph Campisi. Campisi visited Ruby in jail after Ruby shot Oswald. Is Ruby actually working for Marcello? PS: Wasn't there something on one of the Nixon tapes that confirmed that Ruby was "their man"? Is Ruby actually working for Marcello? "Competing" mob families would sometimes operate in the same area, as long as everyone could agree on getting a cut of the profits. Ruby probably had many bosses, since he was well-positioned as a "fixer" in Dallas. Personally, I don't know if the Rubinstein associated with Nixon is the same person or not. The two Rubys - R.K. Locke - 22-03-2016 I feel like we can get a clearer picture of this if we put a few different bits of information together and correlate timelines. I'm just too tired to do it right now, so here are a couple of links for later: http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=5983&page=4#entry66755 http://quixoticjoust.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/nixons-blackmail-of-few-good-men.html The two Rubys - Jim DiEugenio - 22-03-2016 I was not talking about this stuff, the move to Dallas etc. I as talking about the whole thing that Roger Stone tries to sell, that the Ruby/Nixon document is genuine, and that Stone says that Nixon said he only hired Ruby for the HUAC on Johnson's recommendation. Which does not make any sense to me. For more than one reason. The two Rubys - R.K. Locke - 28-03-2016 I'm trying to make the point that it is possible that Johnson recommended Ruby to Nixon, and that they may well have known each other within that timeframe. It isn't much of a stretch when you consider that: Billy Byars, Clint Murchinson, Sid Richardson and HL Hunt, along with many others, frequented the Top Of The Hill Terrance, a gambling club owned and run by Benny Binion. The club was managed by top mobster Lewis McWillie from 1948 to 1958.
Binion was run out of Dallas in 1946 after the killing of James Ragen by Ruby's good friend, Dave Yaras: http://spartacus-educational.com/JFKyarras.htm Also... Murchison, along with Sid Richardson and Haroldson L. Hunt, became major supporters of Lyndon B. Johnson in order to maintain the oil depletion allowance. According to Robert Bryce: "Johnson's 1948 race was reportedly the most expensive political campaign ever wages in Texas. The money flowed to Johnson like an inexhaustible river. By befriending Richardson, Murchison, Hunt, and other oilmen like Amon Carter of Fort Worth, Wesley West of Austin, and R. J. Parten of Houston, Johnson assured himself of nearly unlimited funding."
So you only have two degrees of separation (at most) between Ruby and Johnson in this timeframe. Finally, there is this footnote in Peter Dale Scott's Deep Politics: https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=zWewDbarT3YC&pg=PA367&lpg=PA367&dq=%22sam+rayburn%22+ruby&source=bl&ots=6HThTkGJwr&sig=cPR7qA9VnGJjJS4OZqQElVts9Fc&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwid87zkh-LLAhWB2hoKHftLAb0Q6AEIMjAF#v=onepage&q=%22sam%20rayburn%22%20ruby&f=false The two Rubys - Jim Hargrove - 28-03-2016 From John Armstrong's HarveyandLee.net: NOTE: there was another Jack Rubenstein whose name was known to a few members of Congress. This Rubenstein (DOB 4/5/1905) was originally from New York, New Jersey, and later the Bronx. He was thin, well over 6 ft tall, and a member of the Young Communist League in the 1920s. Rubenstein broke with the Young Communist League in 1929, distanced himself from communists, joined the Textile Workers of America, was the New York State Director of the Textile Workers Union of America in 1947, and vice-president of the New York AFL-CIO until his retirement in 1973. This man, because of his prior association with the Young Communist League, was mentioned during the Dies Committee hearings in 1938 and 1939 (click here to view letters). Two "Jack Rubensteins?" Yes, and they were very different people. The two Rubys - Albert Doyle - 28-03-2016 Quote:The meetings held in Muncie, IN were attended by Jacob (Jack) Rubenstein of Chicago, who was posing as the Chicago correspondent for the "Daily Worker," but in reality was an informant for the House on Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC-which began in 1945). Jack used the reporter ploy when working for intelligence at the Dallas Police Station too. Wasn't there a photo of our Jack Ruby standing next to Nixon?
