LBJ's invasion of Cuba? - Jim DiEugenio - 19-01-2017 I was rereading Oglesby's The Yankee and Cowboy War today. Its an underrated book I think. But one part struck me more than anything. He writes that Johnson had scheduled an invasion of Cuba in 1965, codenamed Second Naval Guerilla. He sources this to Tad Szulc's article Cuba on our Mind. Which I think appeared in Esquire. Does anyone have this article? I could not find it on the web. Is there an thing else that corroborates this? Much like the Frank Sturgis article with SF Chronicle, they just seem to disappear. LBJ's invasion of Cuba? - Scott Kaiser - 19-01-2017 I myself would love to read it, as far as I undetstand LBJs role in this whole mix aside from the cover-up is he allowed the anti-Castro Cubans to carry on with their infiltrations. LBJ did not want to invade Cuba, and as far as I know he never had any intention to do so, he did however, back their efforts in assassinating Castro. This is why he was revered as a "very nice man." Has anyone ever heard about LBJ shutting down groups, arresting anyone for infiltrating Cuba? Only Kennedy did that, and he paid the price. |
