Climate Change proponents emails and files hacked - David Guyatt - 26-11-2009 LaRouche can't have it both ways. He either ceases manifesting his pet nonsense about of the British business, political and royal elite (not that I am endorsing them in saying this - I am not), or he openly sleeps with and promulgates their positions. Ah, a Googling contest eh. I see what you mean. I really do. We should simply ignore conscious deception and underhanded behaviour when we come across it. Sorry, but I'll not buy into that particular twisted rationale. Checking the veracity of sources is an established and recognized part of journalistic and academic work. Some measure up to that level of scrutiny whilst others do not. Unfortunately, you do not. Switching into attack mode via the odorous whiff of self righteous indignation will not cut it either. Climate Change proponents emails and files hacked - Helen Reyes - 26-11-2009 David: it is interesting that LaRouche and Monckton have the same position, but it's not like either of them own that position, they didn't stake exclusive claim to it. From what I heard QE2 is in favor of a treaty at Copenhagen. It looks fairly bad for Hadley CRU even as people fingered in the email wage a mad war across wikipedia to contain the fallout, save their reputations, defend climate science etc. The FORTRAN code is very poorly written and the data bludgeoning is more than evident. They excised a warming period in 1940 along with the stuff in the Middle Ages, 1940 was apparently warmer than 1998. In line with what Jan and David were talking about, Monckton used the Alex Jones show linked above to call for a global Freedom Party and defended Thatcher, characterizing fake climate science and the policies and politicians who underwrote it as Communists. Surprisingly he said Russia is more free than the UK today, and agreed with Alex Jones on a number of other points. Worth listening to. Climate Change proponents emails and files hacked - Magda Hassan - 30-11-2009 SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based. It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years. The UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation. The data were gathered from weather stations around the world and then adjusted to take account of variables in the way they were collected. The revised figures were kept, but the originals — stored on paper and magnetic tape — were dumped to save space when the CRU moved to a new building. Related Links The admission follows the leaking of a thousand private emails sent and received by Professor Phil Jones, the CRU’s director. In them he discusses thwarting climate sceptics seeking access to such data. In a statement on its website, the CRU said: “We do not hold the original raw data but only the value-added (quality controlled and homogenised) data.” The CRU is the world’s leading centre for reconstructing past climate and temperatures. Climate change sceptics have long been keen to examine exactly how its data were compiled. That is now impossible. Roger Pielke, professor of environmental studies at Colorado University, discovered data had been lost when he asked for original records. “The CRU is basically saying, ‘Trust us’. So much for settling questions and resolving debates with science,” he said. Jones was not in charge of the CRU when the data were thrown away in the 1980s, a time when climate change was seen as a less pressing issue. The lost material was used to build the databases that have been his life’s work, showing how the world has warmed by 0.8C over the past 157 years. He and his colleagues say this temperature rise is “unequivocally” linked to greenhouse gas emissions generated by humans. Their findings are one of the main pieces of evidence used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which says global warming is a threat to humanity http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article6936328.ece Climate Change proponents emails and files hacked - David Guyatt - 30-11-2009 Magda Hassan Wrote:In them he discusses thwarting climate sceptics seeking access to such data. Thrown away or can't / won't find? The rationale for throwing away basic data is so that it cannot be reviewed by others. This stinks to high heavens. Climate Change proponents emails and files hacked - Jan Klimkowski - 30-11-2009 Scientist: "I'd like access to the raw data, please." UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU): "Sorry, no can do. Here's some value-added (quality controlled and homogenised) data we prepared earlier." :hmpf: Climate Change proponents emails and files hacked - Helen Reyes - 30-11-2009 David: from what I understood, first the CRU claimed they lost a dataset but it might exist on paper at another location. Now it's that they were routinely erased/shredded, from what I can make of it. Australia and NZ are having their own climategates and it probably extends to Canada too, but I haven't seen confirmation of CA fabricating weather station data yet. http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/PO0911/S00282.htm Quote:NIWA “adjusts” records to show warming ABC and Australian newspapers are reporting five liberal MPs resigned rather than vote for a pre-Copenhagen carbon dioxide debt scheme. If it's true of Canada and Australia too, it's an incredible thing. Tim Ball in the interview linked above discusses how terrestrial weather stations are mainly located in inappropriate places, and how the move to satellite data collection was fraught with problems. Mike Rivero of whatreallyhappened.com claims the station used for carbon dioxide measurements in Hawaii is located on the side of an active volcano, Mauna Loa. Ball says they are also placed outside air conditioning units and in parking lots. Climate Change proponents emails and files hacked - Peter Lemkin - 30-11-2009 Gary McGowan Wrote:With respect, Peter: We disagree. I hold not much in the way of credentials in anything, but I have put a great deal of effort in my 63 years into trying to figure out what in hell is going on--this most especially after I noticed a number of significant leaders (I'm American) were being assassinated, the official investigations were blatant whitewashes or muddying of the waters, and that most everybody seemed to be running around as if hypnotized, playing games related to "money" when they weren't watching TV. I feel as if I have been witnessing a very slow-motion tragedy of death and maiming and worse for the past 40 years, and it's not good. The issue of anthropogenic global warming is just one of huge number of assaults on Gaia humans have made. We are a plague [overpopulated] on the Planet, distorting water and land resources, destroying habitat for all other life, distorting the atmosphere and oceans, fouling our 'bed' with poisons of all kinds, now responsible for the extinction of over 200 species PER DAY [and rapidly increasing], destruction of the ozone layer, melting of the glaciers and global climate change - and much, much more. It is only recently that ANY 'establishment types' thought to use this as a way to control the masses. This cry of alarm is from the 1950s and has been ignored as it got worse and is now at the point where an immediate cessation would NOT prevent huge catastrophe to humans and [worse] the rest of living things on the only Planet we have. Arrogance, hubris, denial, short-sightedness and worse is what I see. A few [about 5-8%] of legit environmental scientist have some doubt it is anthropogenic. They are mostly bought and paid-for by Big Business or right wing born agains, who feel all is 'their god's' control and out fo the hands of humans. This is the greatest battle humans and other species have faced since the extinction of the dinosaurs [a natural event]. This one is up to US and to a large extent the U.S. I fear we will loose the battle due to denial and cover-ups, corporate spin, et al. What do I think of people like you mention...misguided to bought-out....like those scientists who worked for the tobacco industry or work for Monstanto and the chemical industries now..... |
