Essay Question - Ed Jewett - 09-01-2010

Not a trick question, nope. A loaded question, perhaps.... The question of the new millennium for those who have some say on the future direction of humanity as it sits on the brink of God knows whatever.

The question was fashioned as an aside based on another discussion board commentary.

In the interim, I am halfway through Frederick Franck's book What Matters: Spiritual Nourishment for Head and Heart, (Skylight Paths Publishing, 2004).

The book speaks of the meaning of being born human (to become human), of an in-group's tendency to indulge in self-righteousness and megalomania. "Especially in the Abrahamanic traditions it has, through the ages, caused endless persecutions, witchhunts, inquisitions, and massacres.... to the collective ingroup ego, scripture is merely printed matter, all too often seditious printed matter, indispensable justification for hatred, intolerance, torture, pogrom, massacre. The centuries are there to prove it."

Perhaps entries in the context will remain open indefinitely....
