At least 42 people have died after a high-rise in Shanghai went up in flames, creating a cloud of smoke that could be seen across the Chinese city.

State media said a further 90 people were injured in the blaze, which started at around 2pm local time in the city's Jingan district.

The 28-storey apartment block in Shanghai's business centre was being renovated.

It is believed that scaffolding around the building initially caught fire, but it is not clear how.

Shanghai TV said more than 80 fire engines were called to battle the blaze.

Witnesses reported seeing people jumping from windows to escape the flames, while others could be seen clinging to the badly-burnt scaffolding.
Those hurt were taken to the Jingan district hospital for treatment.
City officials said 100 people were rescued, but it was not clear if that included the 90 who were injured.

Images posted on the internet showed the entire building engulfed and smoke rising over the city skyline.

Physics acts differently in NYC.....just ask the D-bunker from Brazil or EB, #2 at EF, they'll explain. Any way, Oriental fires burn at lower temperatures, and their steel is made of stronger stuff due to Bamboo to part one and inclusion of rice hulls to part 2...and...and...and...and...
maybe that building didn't have any nanothermite pre-planted in it! :hmmmm:

My thoughts precisely Pete. American physics work differently to the rest of the world. Mere mortals watch high-rise building burn out over many hours leaving ugly twisted metal frames standing as testament to the fire. But in the US they always fall down into their own footprint.

Maybe it's the air in Samland that fucks things up?

American Exceptionalism is so powerful, it even works on the Laws of the Universe [and logic!] :aetsch:
