North Carolina: Police Will Take Fingerprints from People in the Field

Next month, 13 law enforcement agencies in the region will begin using a new handheld device that lets an officer scan a person’s fingerprints and seek a match in an electronic database – all without going anywhere.
Police say taking fingerprints in the field will allow them to work more efficiently and safely. But the ACLU North Carolina in Raleigh worries that the device may allow officers to violate privacy rights.
The ACLU is concerned about what will become of fingerprint scans that are sent to other databases, such as the National Crime Information Center.
“Part of the danger is the idea of the government creating a database on its citizens,” said Sarah Preston, policy director for ACLU North Carolina. “Citizens should be allowed some degree of privacy.”

...speaking of which....remember all the bruh hah hah about the 'Millenium bug'....well, for our computers it was a hoax and some profit for a few companies to fix a non-existant problem; but for TPTB I do now believe they had in mind to change things drastically and forever after 2000 [fitting into their own religious hageography]. It wasn't one year past that we had 9-11 and Anthrax attacks and now look....not yet 2011 and we have cyber-warfare and anyone who doesn't bow to Corporate/Govt/neo-fascist/Oligarchic/Banking pressure gets tortured, killed or left broke, homeless, to starve or be arrested and disappeared into the Gulag..... How are we different than China or the Soviet Union? Perhaps only the language and habits..... Stay tuned..... Its gonna be a rough ride the next 12 months.....as I don't think the World society can take much more - yet TPTB are about to dish out a whole shitload more.... as in NOW!

Analogously, "Cloud" computing, and backup options which store all your data on remote servers in cyberspace, are clearly ways for The Man to regain control.
First, The Man can see everything on your computer. (He can anyway, but Cloud computing makes it hassle free.)
Second, The Man controls the On/Off switch, and can flick it whenever he chooses.
