Amnesty International Death Penalty Stats 2009 - David Guyatt - 10-12-2010 I present the propaganda rag, the Daily Bellylaugh's roundup of AI death stats for 2009: Quote: Iran second only to China for executions For the record I deplore capital punishment. It is abhorrent and vile. And executing children is profoundly vile. But the Bellylaugh's "Iran is no. 2" piece is also abhorrent and vile for its crystal clear unbalanced propagandistic, toadying journalism. If they want to write a story about executions, start with China, go on to iran, then US allies Iraq and Saudi, and include the US itself for that matter --- it was the only nation in the entire America's to carry out executions last year. Be balanced and objective. But no. So let's just balance the listing boat just a little. For example, America is the only western nation to carry out executions against child offenders (19 of them in total) - a practice it shares with only 9 other nations including Iran, China and Saudi covering the years 1990 and 2008. The Bellylaugh article covered stats for the year 2009, yet no other nations besides Iran and the big bad boy China named in the caption - were mentioned. And yet, all told, 18 nations carried out executions last year: Quote:Known Executions in 2009 Prejudiced reporting/propaganda is becoming so commonplace throughout the MSM that we don't even see anymore. But we should take more care to winkle it out and highlight such bias. Amnesty International Death Penalty Stats 2009 - John Kowalski - 10-12-2010 I saw this video recently, Executions (1995), a documentary about the use of the death penalty. It shows executions in different countries and is graphic. It also takes issue with the myth that executions are "humane". I found it on Google video but may be available on other download sites. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3295213832561010248# John Amnesty International Death Penalty Stats 2009 - John Kowalski - 10-12-2010 Quote: But the Bellylaugh's "Iran is no. 2" piece is also abhorrent and vile for its crystal clear unbalanced propagandistic, toadying journalism. Be balanced and objective. But no. CNN aired a story about a woman that was to be stoned to death in Iran and was probably aired only because of the tensions between Iran and the US. If CNN cared about executions, they would focus on executions all over the world, including their ally in Saudi Arabia and of course the executions that occur in the US. Another example of news and propaganda been combined to shape American and world opinion rather than provide a fair and balanced viewpoint.
