Proposed new category: The Corporate War on Unions - Myra Bronstein - 18-12-2008
I would really really really like to add a category: "The Corporate War on Unions."
I'm sure there's a better title, but the point is that this is a central-deep politics-theme. In fact I'm convinced that it's one of the biggest.
The attack on unions is quite evident right now with the attempts to bust the United Auto Workers, and with the Republic factory case.
What do y'all think?

I'm with you, Myra.
Here in Rhode Island even the gay, progressive mayor of Providence has made the demonization of public employee unions a cornerstone of his campaign for higher office.
This is a major subject with deep political roots.

Hell yes, great idea, be happy to add the British/European aspect, from Thatchers anti union laws of the eighties(never repealed by New Labour, could you believe it?) to the State sponsored Miners strike, which was heavily involved in.

Oh, absolutely. The union busting is a global agenda going back decades. Again (again)--Hitler's first action was to destroy the unions.
"Communism" is a code word for "Labor Union."
"Socialism" is a code word for "Communism."
Both Thatcher and Reagan breathed new life into the union-busting agenda.
They were two peas in a pod.

Same in Chile. Not one of Pinochet's laws has been changed. They are still using his constitution. Bachelet could have done ANYTHING when she was elected. So many had so much hope for her (sound familiar?) Theywere desperate for change but she has done NOTHING and has actually used these laws and anti-terrorism laws against workers, students and indigenous people.
