How to quote part of a post - Jan Klimkowski - 13-06-2011

DPF encourages members to quote selectively and meaningfully from the posts of others.

For those new to html quote code, here's a simple guide.

When you select REPLY WITH QUOTE, this will generate a pair of nested symbols.

Eg
[ QUOTE=Jan Klimkowski;40359 ] text text text [ /QUOTE ]

I have added spaces between the square brackets and the word quote and numbers, simply so that the html code can be seen in this post.

In reality, there should be no space between the square bracket and first letter, and then when SUBMIT REPLY is hit, the code will nest the "text text text" to make it clear that a member is being quoted (in this case me).

Eg
Jan Klimkowski Wrote:text text text

When quoting more than one member, simply remember that each individual quote must have a beginning [ QUOTE ] and [ /QUOTE ] code.

The following string is fine:

[ QUOTE=Jan Klimkowski;40359 ] [ quote=magda hassan;10222 ] text text [ /quote ] text text [ /quote ]

Here an exchange between Magda and I would be rendered and attributed correctly in the ensuing post.

Eg
Jan Klimkowski Wrote:
magda hassan Wrote:text text
text text

Nearly all messed up attempts to quote are lacking either the beginning or end quote code around an individual member's quote.

So, once again, each quote must have a start code and an end code - with the / symbol in front of the second, end quote, code.

Please try it, and it should soon become automatic, and lead to more focused exchanges.
