Kerry Thornley and the The Discordian Society. - Magda Hassan - 19-06-2011

I'd known a bit about Kerry and his connections to Oswald and Garrison but it just came to my attention today that he was also involved in setting up the Discordian Society. What do people here know about the society if any thing? And Kerry's activities with in it? Is it possible that it is a front for other activities? Wandering Bishops any one? I wrote to Adam Parfrey about it and he said that The Discordian Society was like the Church of the Subgenius, a satirical thing with one note jokes, kind of a fraternal thing for nerds. He seemed relaxed and comfortable with Kerry when he met him too in 1992 I think it was. I also wrote to Adam Gorightly about it. I didn't get too much from him, at least his thoughts on it but I did get an invite to his radio programme which I've passed along to others. I did later find that he describes himself 'Religious views: Card Carrying Discordian' So maybe that was why he was reticent.

Am currently reading A. Gorightly's "The Prankster and the Conspiracy. " It explains many of the basic tenets of Discordianism, while also giving insight into Thornley's life and profound mental illness. My take on it is that it spoofs all religion. There is a lot to laugh at in Discordianism. I especially enjoyed finding that Catmas have replaced Dogmas.
Didn't know there is a radio show about it, can you post any links to it?

The JFK assassination as the ultimate discordian event -- "ultimate" given the nearly 50 years of efforts to discover order where it never existed and in the process fomenting chaos with an incalculably long half-life ... non-resolving chaos ... absent fractals ...

Yet isn't order to be discovered in all creations of ordered beings?

What we imagine is order is merely the prevailing form of chaos. - Kerry Thornley

We imagine order, so order exists.
