This is EXACTLY as seen in the second image that Pamela Gellar has shown, and the first two pages of the PDF file. I did not access the profile further.

If you look at the first screenshot (the one that doesn't show the political and religious information) you can clearly see that whoever took it was not logged in the log-in prompt is in the top right-hand corner, and there is also a button for registration (in Norwegian, "Registrer deg").

I have experienced the same changes before when viewing profiles before and then after logging in to the site. I assume that a profile is naturally displayed in the language of the country where it has been created, and with only limited information; if you yourself log in to Facebook, that profile is then translated into the language of the country where you have registered, and a greater amount of information is displayed. I do not know whether this varies according to the security settings of the profile you are viewing, but if you try it yourself, I think you will see what I mean.

So, Breivik's profile was not changed after his arrest the differences are related to whether or not that profile was viewed whilst logged-in to Facebook".

The PST (Norwegian Security Service) held a press conference yesterday to announce their new threat-assessment report. As in previous years the report noted the threat of internet radicalization among Muslims, but this year PST chief Janne Kristiansen also named a new anti-Islamic organization, the Norwegian Defence League (NDL).

The organization is not discussed much, but is well known among the extreme right, Islam critics and anti-racist movements. On Facebook, different NDL groups have 500 members, and the group's leaders claim they have over 600 supporters in Norway. Many are young men in their 20s, inspired by the English Defence League in the UK.

"NDL profiles itself as a legal political movement, but as we see from the UK, the boundaries are fluid. It oftens ends in violent confrontations with those holding the opposite opinion," PST department head Jon Fitje told Dagbladet.

Remi Huseby (22), from Haugesund, who presented himself as the group's spokesperson last month, has received much attention from the media and anti-fascist groups. Last week he was kicked out of the Transport Workers Union due to his position. After PST named the NDL yesterday, he had enough. In an SMS to Dagbladet Huseby announced he's resigning from the organization: "Hereby confirm that I'm leaving the NDL because the NDL has been taken over by neo-Nazis".

"Islam-hostile groups can take different forms. We see the developments in Europe and fear the same in Norway," says Fitje. Though the NDL hadn't used violence, the PST defines it it as an "extreme right-wing group". With Huseby out of the organization, it's unclear what political profile the NDL will have. If cultivating violence and radicalization become dominant, the group might get more attention from the security service.

Anti-racism campaigners believe they may have uncovered evidence that Anders Behring Breivik, the man who carried out the mass killings in Norway, was in touch with activists from the English Defence League as recently as March.

Searchlight said the 32-year-old used the pseudonym of a 12th-century Norwegian king to communicate with people on the EDL forum before retreating to a remote farm to prepare for last week's attacks.

In one posting, on 9 March, the author called on rightwing activists in the UK to "keep up the good work".

"Hello. To you all good English men and women, just wanted to say that you're a blessing to all in Europe, in these dark times all of Europe are looking to you in such [sic] of inspiration, courage and even hope that we might turn this evil trend with islamisation all across our continent. Well, just wanted to say keep up the good work it's good to see others that care about their country and heritage. All the best to you all. Sigurd"

Breivik boasted about his links to the UK far-right group in his 1,500-page manifesto, written in English under his Anglicised name, Andrew Berwick.

In the document, he says he was given the codename "Sigurd (the Crusader)" at a meeting of a group called the Knights Templar Europe in London in 2002. There is no confirmation that the author is Breivik. Sigurd is a common name in Norway.

In messages, "Sigurd" says he attended a football match in the UK and expresses his admiration for the EDL, adding that he would like join one of its demonstrations.

"i've seen with my own eyes what has happened to england, i was in bradford some years ago, me and a friend walked down to the football stadium of bradford, real 'nice' neighborhood, same thing in the suburbs of london. well thinking about taking a little trip over the sea and join you in a demo. would be nice with a norwegian flag alongside with union jack or the english flag, that is if a norwegian would be welcome offcourse?"

In another message, he goes on to discuss the situation in Norway.

"The biggest problem in Norway is that there is no real free press, there is a left-wing angle on all the political topics so most people are going around like idiots. And offcourse with our norwegian labour party beeing in power for most of the last 50 years dont help. but i i think there is an awakening now at least i hope so."

In his manifesto, Breivik repeatedly refers to the EDL, stating at one point: "I used to have more than 600 EDL members as Facebook friends and have spoken with tens of EDL members and leaders."

Because he was wearing a police uniform she approached him to talk about the bomb blast in Oslo but became suspicious by his evasive answers.

As soon as the boat docked she ran over to Mr Berntsen to alert him but Breivik realised that they had clocked him and shot them both immediately, Mrs Bosei, an accountant whose two daughters were also at the camp but survived, was his first victim.

A witness said: "The 32-year-old gunman didn't hesitate for one second as he launched his murderous rampage."

Harald Olsen, 46, a union representative and friend of Mr Berntsen whose own two sons had been due to attend the camp, said he would not have hesitated before approaching Breivik.

He said: "My friend often worked at the camp. He is the sort of guy who would not be afraid to approach anyone and ask them what they were doing."

It was claimed that Breivik told police he had targeted Norway's former Prime Minister Gro Harlem Bruntland who had hosted a seminar at the camp.

But he got held up in traffic as drove to the island after detonating the bomb at government headquarters in central Oslo and missed her by just half an hour.

"He could not drive any quicker or he would have aroused suspicions," a source said.

Mrs Bruntland, former Labour leader, won three general elections and is highly regarded for her work as director general of the World Health Organisation. She now works as a special envoy for climate change to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon. A police spokesman refused to comment on the reports.

Breivik has told police that he modified dum-dum bullets to ensure they caused as much devastation as possible and claimed that he had drawn up more plans to bring terror to Oslo but had failed to carry them out.

He admitted that by cutting the tops off the bullets and injecting them with pure liquid nicotine ordered from China, he guaranteed that the lethal weapon would inflict maximum pain on his victims.

Dr Colin Poole, from Ringriket Hospital in Honefoss, north-west of Oslo, said: "Those on the dead brought in from the island are the worst I've ever seen. "They are very difficult to x-ray because the bullets just shatter everything into tiny pieces."

It also emerged yesterday that Breivik was an insecure man who was desperate to become rich and who once had cosmetic surgery to improve his chances of getting a girlfriend.

He lost all his money on the stock market in 1997 when he was 19, just four years before he started plotting last week's atrocity.

A friend, who did not wish to be named but who had helped him join the Freemasons, said: "He had many friends but I remember he lost all of his money on the stock market in 1997. He lost shares worth about 2 million kroner (£227,000).

"He always took care of his mother and she was very dependent on him."

Another friend disclosed that the right wing extremist had travelled to the US for plastic surgery on his face.
