Vonnegut is [was] one of the better American writers IMHO - and his stories, while seemingly 'light' on the surface, were very deep, indeed. Slaughterhouse Five was made into a very good film. The book I've re-read more times than I remember. Cat's Cradle is great too, as is the Sirens of Titan...in fact, they are all good!
