I agree. The part about Kubrick deliberately creating an atmosphere of dreamlike unreality is on point, but the idea that the characters are all "in on it"--or are guiding him towards some end goal--just doesn't ring true.
Any theories on why Tom Cruise's character constantly repeats people's questions back to them? It probably doesn't have any major significance but I've always found it strange.
It's also odd to me that Kubrick cribs a line of dialogue directly from the movie True Lies. 'True Lies'... 'Eyes Wide Shut'. Hmmm.
