Over 200,000 died.

And remember the the population was only about 700,000 in total. So one third of the population murdered. Rivers of blood. This is an absolutely massive amount of the population. Genocide. You will see from the graph below the drop in population. There is another one in the late 1990's when the Indonesians did it again and had a scorched earth policy as they went out the door. The Australian people have long loved the East Timorese because of their acts of kindness and support for our troops in WW2 and yet 'our' government has treated them with such duplicity and betrayal. Nothing less than complicit in their genocide. Gareth Evens was being touted as the replacement at the UN when Boutros Boutros Galhi stepped down. Gareth Gareth Evans he was being called. Appalling man still pushing for war as Peter says.

They even got pressured to drop their very good case against Australia at the International Court of Justice.

Another good movie to see about the invasion of East Timor if you get the chance is called 'Bailibo'. The Indonesians murdered 5 of our journalist who were there covering the invasion. Australia has a long and shameful history of ignoring and abandoning our citizens when they need our help overseas. It didn't start with Julian Assange. And we actually give military aid and training to these monsters.

And the same thing that happened in East Timor is still happening in West Papua right now. Another country the Indonesian invaded.
