Huh. Well now obviously the "West" would like regime change in Russia, but I tend to see it more as a Zbigniew Brzezinski type of move to bleed this beleaguered world power with the death of a thousand cuts, right down to the last Ukranian. At least try and leave them with not much left in the tank so to speak when the smoke clears. It's a dangerous game being played either way, using Ukraine to poke the bear in the eye, and backing it into a corner, not very smart IMO...
This could also be serving the duel purpose of breathing new and freshly inspired life into NATO, if that was part of the intent, a "problem reaction solution" scenario, then it has worked brilliantly.
I even see a possible 3rd rail to this. Just as "Little Boy" and "Fat Man" were fair notice to the world that a new hegemon had entered the scene and was not to be messed with, bringing Russia to her knees could have put competitors to this hegemony like China for instance, on notice that they can be taken down a peg or two themselves by purely economic means alone if they keep stepping out of line.
As an aside, you refer today's political climate as still being "unipolar", it looks to me like it's already back to bipolar with the rapid rise of China, you don't see them as being a peer competitor yet?
