I have posted Mr. Wolfsthal's replies. I have not posted my responses to him...but they were direct and tough - challenging most everything he was saying. I asked him for his position - he refused to answer. I asked him to let me be in contact with HPA's editor or the legal dept. - he ignored this. I asked him to prove any of his statements and he ignored those requests.
Frankly, I'm surprised to hear that HPA had not yet turned in a final draft of the book, but perhaps that is true. Some writers endlessly revise and only a demand from the editor can get a copy that will be deemed as 'final' for publication. I don't know in this case. I am very surprised to hear that [according to Skyhorse's spokesman] HPA was writing the book with an unnamed female writer and/or researcher - and that the book will be coming out in 2020 sometime, completed by this woman, and in that woman's name only - not with Albarelli's name on it as the author. I told Wolfsthal that I felt that seemed unethical if not illegal to which he did not reply.
He is obviously a low level PR man. He claims to have spoken with HPA's editor before answering my emails and that may be so or may not be so.
If anyone can find out anything more from the family, from emails they had with HPA in recent months or in any other way, I'd appreciate posted here or sent to me privately by PM. I'm working behind the scenes with someone who should know a lot of this, but also has a contract with Skyhorse and may be reluctant to 'cross them' least it hurt their relationship with their publisher.
Jim DiE, you also have Skyhorse as your publisher, yet have not weighed in at all. If you have any insight into Skyhorse generally or specifically in this case, please feel free to say.
I feel badly about Hank's death at quite a young age. I also find some I was told by Skyhorse to be strange about the secret female writing/research partner, that he had not turned in a final MS, that a film producer produced delays in the book [that is really hard to believe], and that the book is now delayed until 2020 at the earliest and will come out in the name of the woman he refused to name - without HPA's name as the author...... very strange and sad. One has to wonder in the 'process' what is being changed with the information or focus of the book. I don't claim to know.
Anthony, if you can, don't rely on anyone at EF to find out, please try to ask the daughter yourself and let us know. She is invited to become a member here and have her say on any of this, if and when she would like. I have no idea how involved or aware she was with the progress of the book and know she is going through personal grief now.
