You can't let them get away with their excuses. In the main blowhard's case once you eliminate the application you then have to account for what it was. Instead of doing that, like any credible researcher would, he says it isn't important. You can't let him get away with that. You have to force him to do the follow-through.
I find it dishonest that some people allow an obvious blowhard tabloid-type researcher to get away with that.
A good example that American bureaucracies work more towards fascist compliance than democratic fidelity.
