My question is this. Did Stan the ManII forsee post-9/11 US in this movie?

I know its Viena 1890ish but there was a real end of historyishness to the 1990s too, in a cartoon-prop way. If you haven't seen this movie don't believe the hype and the casting was genius because Kubrick wasn't using Tom Cruise acting he was using Tom Cruise As An Actor. Now her, I dunno...

I've discussed "Eyes Wide Shut" extensively with another member here (largely offline), and we both agree that it's a highly occult movie, with initiate symbolism & esoteric concepts permeating frame after frame, scene after scene.

There are also nods to narco-trauma conditioning and Naval Intelligence/Scientology - in part through the casting of Cruise & Kidman, the lifeless Scientologist puppet protagonists....

"Eyes Wide Shut" is not a commercial movie. It is clearly something else.

Nate - why 9/11?

I concur Jan. A very highly charged occult film that has many very unpleasant undertones. As I once mentioned there are elements in the film that clearly derive from considerable knowledge of occult rituals.

I am thinking particularly of the masked ball scene at the Long Island mansion that is said (see Wiki entry) to be a "Hierogamy inspired sexual orgy". Wiki's definition of "Hierogamy" (more often known as "Hieros gamos" from the Greek, means "Holy Wedding").

However, the true Heiros Gamos experience has no overt physical sexuality at all as it is a "wedding" of the opposite natures at war in man and, therefore, is a highly charged symbolic experience and represents a pinnacle of achievement.

I'm being completely bloody boring in focusing on this I realize, but the foregoing is simply to emphasis that the Eyes Wide Shut ritual is clearly Satanic in nature (if we use the term "Satanic" to mean negative and destructive, which is how I always apply it - and not necessarily "Goaty").

Kubrick was the joint writer of the film and, it seems to me, was responsible for inserting such an intense scene. I am quite certain that the ritual chanting in this sequence is authentic. And the choice of sountrack music for the scene is also cleverly contrived imo.

See the scene HERE (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2a2b4_jocelyn-pook-masked-ball_music)

In the ritual, the incantations in the background are in Romanian, played backwards. The piece, named "Masked Ball", is an adaptation by Jocelyn Pook of her "Backwards Priests."

And

The background score during the orgy (where Tom Cruise walks from room to room) is a Tamil song sung by Manickam Yogeswaran who is a Carnatic singer..

The Tamil song in question is:

[quote] "Ithu kadala, ithu naragama", meaning Is it love, is it hell?[\quote]

I am also interested in Nate's reference to 911.

I have never seen this film as my husband though it just sounded like a porno type film with Tom and Nicole. Since reading comments here I really want to see it now. I too want to hear more about the 9-11 connection.

No, I haven't seen the movie either but, from what I've gathered, I think Jan has it nailed down. Also, I just recently read an interview with Kubrick by Terry Southern entitled "Checkup with Doctor Strangelove" in a book called "Killed: Great Journalism Too Hot to Print", edited by David Wallis (the article was killed by Esquire in 1963). Retrospect is always nice and 20/20 but, in this case, it was also funny and dead-on-accurate. And Kubrick was always a few steps ahead of the rest of the pack.

Hi all,

New here. First and foremost - good job with the forum, I feel right at home.

Re: Eyes wide shut

A friend told me to watch this film after he introduced me to the entire global elite network information package. Needless to say I was already impressed by Kubrick's work, but this film was amazing. A work of art, so subtle, that you need to know what to look for in order to see it. It makes me smile to think that Tom Cruise might still have no idea what he was a part of.

Anyway, what I wanted to add to this post is that my friend is convinced that Kubrick did not die of natural causes. Admittedly he must have been rather wiped out after 400 days of shooting, however there might still be a chance that his heart attack was not caused by huge amounts of stress. If anything, his heart should have failed at the peak of its activity, not after all the work was done.

According to IMDB Kubrick died four days after presenting EWS to Warner Bros. As far as I've heard from the likes of David Icke (et al) people such as Walt Disney, and therefore perhaps the good people of Warner Bros., have exciting reputations to uphold amoung the global elite. Furthermore, according to Kubrick's daughter, Kubrick was supposed to do various interviews about EWS as soon as it was properly released.

It strikes me as very odd that a man who can withstand such a great deal of pressure should die in his sleep. Especially before he ever got the chance to publicly explain what this great film was about. Its obviously about the disturbing and unethical habits of the powerful elite; their greatest secrets, which have now been unveiled. I have much admiration for Kubrick, and anyone else who put their lives on the line to expose dirty secrets. On the one hand I feel awake, and somewhat fortunate to have the privilege of gaining and understanding the knowledge of these facts, although on the other hand it makes life a nightmarish, torturous and unfair experience - one which in the long run convinces me that ignorance indeed is bliss.

Saw EWS last night. The masked ball scene is definately Satanic. I agree that Cruise had no idea what he was being used to promote. I'd like to see a more complete discussion of this very unusual film. It left me very unsettled.
Also with questions for the director, alas...

Stanley Kubrick was a most meticulous and obsessive man.

His films are so finely crafted at the technical level that their effect is sometimes cold and chilling. He was notorious for endless takes and for pushing actors to display precisely the emotions (or lack of emotion) that he wanted to see on screen.

Kubrick's casting of the then golden couple of Scientology, Cruise & Kidman, was a highly calculated decision. Kidman's fantasy lover/controller is a Naval officer.

Operating Thetans & L Ron. :dancing:

Cruise & Kidman as automatons incapable of independent thought?

I have no doubt that Stanley obtained the performance from his leads that he desired.

Eyes Wide Shut is suffused with authentic occult imagery which resonates for those who have Eyes Wide Open.

Operation Open Eyes - one of Gunther Russbacher's Octopus tales.

What was Kubrick actually suggesting?

And why?

One key segment of EWS was, to my mind, where Cruise was saved from death at the masked ball by his hooker acquaintance. In rescuing him she knew she would have to pay the price of saving his life by surrendering her own life.

This tells us that there were far deeper and darker meanings to this film.

But as I have mentioned earlier in this thread, the choice of the incantation/song "backwards priests" and the score for the scene "Is it love , is it Hell" all speak of something diabolical. In fact Jocely Pook who composed the backward chant used by Kubrick choose it specifically to make it sound diabolical. Kubrick knew this and choose the piece for that reason.

This all leads me to wonder if the name of the chant "backward priests", was chosen as a substitute name for "dog priests"?. In the Biblical story of Sodom and Gomorra, Lot looking backward was turned to a pillar of stone. I mention this Biblical curiosity because, as Robert Graves has written, the priests who officiated at Sodomy rituals (the Enariae) were known colloquially as Dog priests - drawn from Dog days, a term relating to the rising of the Dog star Sirius (see: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/sodomitic). (Robert Graves was an esotericist of standing. His book The White Goddes remains an occult masterpiece in the eyes of many esotericists).

Sex Magick featured throughout the film and indeed was the core aspect of the masked ball scene.

This also leads me to conclude that the choice of profession alloted to Cruises saviour, that of Hooker, was purposefully chosen by Kubrick to fit the overall occult dimensions of his film - sex magick, blood sacrifice and diabolos.

David - all good stuff.

Sex magick - with dog priests and hookers with hearts of gold.

Sex as a means to a (transcendent?) end?

Sex as a means of control?

Narco-trauma-mind control through the channelling of sex.

Whilst the LSD Svengali Sandor Szavost is seducing the increasingly drunken Kidman, Cruise (the good doctor) is having a superficially banal but in reality highly charged conversation with some passing Candy Jones models.

Cruise asks where they are leading him, to which they reply:

To the end of the rainbow.

One of the young ladies then asks Dr. Harford:

Dont you want to go to where the rainbow ends?

To which he replies:

That all depends where that is.
I've spoken with and interviewed very many potential survivors of covert mind control programmes. It is an area filled with bear traps and disinformation - designed to discredit serious researchers and, most importantly, the victims of these crimes.

In my judgement, what is known as "Monarch" is probably mostly disinformation.

However, there were real deep black experiments on children, involving sex through an extreme Ewen-Cameron-meets-Behaviourism-meets-piece-of-meat-functionality.

The journey to the end of the rainbow is a key concept in many of these testimonies.

I've touched on elements of the mind control experiments in many threads on DPF. For instance, here:

In his documentary, "You Have Used Me as a Fish Long Enough", gifted film-maker Adam Curtis argues that mind control programmes such as MK-ULTRA ultimately proved unsuccessful.

As a result, Curtis' film argues, the military-industrial complex abandoned its dream of directly controlling the individual mind. Instead, it turned to ever more sophisticated forms of mass propaganda - such as the manipulation of the historical record and the shaping of contemporary reality as presented through network television news & current affairs.

Curtis' argument probably represents the consensus amongst those few academic historians who are interested in MK-ULTRA and its legacy. I believe that consensus to be wrong.

Many years of researching Bluebird/Artichoke/MK-ULTRA and its even more hidden British counterpart, and speaking and corresponding with individuals who claim to have been guinea pigs in these programmes, have convinced me that the covert mind control techniques had three main origins:

i) the medical and psychological research on soldiers with "shellshock" dating back to the Crimean and American Civil War, and continuing through WW1 & WW2. Many soldiers whose psyches had been fragmented by the experience of terrible events, and were suffering from what we now term Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, effectively became experimental subjects. Whilst many of the shellshock doctors had the best of intentions, others were directly involved in the mind control programmes. For instance, perhaps the most famous of all the British shellshock doctors, William Sargant, collaborated extensively with Ewen Cameron and Sidney Gottlieb of MK-ULTRA notoriety. Sargant even betrayed CIA doctor Frank Olson to Gottlieb when Olson described his horror at witnessing terminal mind control experiments in 1953, probably either in Britain or in former IG Farben buildings in Frankfurt which were by then occupied by the CIA. Olson's son, Eric, has good evidence that his father was subsequently murdered by CIA elements;

ii) the very mechanical theories of the brain which were academically fashionable at the time of WW2, particularly Operant Conditioning, Classical Conditioning, and Behaviourism, and their gurus - IP Pavlov and BF Skinner. These very crude psychological frameworks suggested to the mind control doctors that the human brain could be programmed. These theories drove much of the research well into the 1970s when Drs Ervin and Mark, proteges of Robert G Heath (of brain electrode fame) and Louis Jolyon West (of MK-ULTRA notoriety) attempted to convert a disused missile base into a location for eradicating violent tendencies in primarily black prisoners using methods which can perhaps be best described as lobotomization of the limbic system. Ervin and Mark even suggested Lee Harvey Oswald's brain would have been ideal for their destructive techniques;

iii) the shamanic and occult techniques for creating trance and dissociated states, and for guiding or controlling the behaviour of an individual placed in such a state.

It is this third occult/shamanic element that Peter Levenda's concept of the "Manson Secret" captures (articulated in his brilliant Sinister Forces trilogy), and which Marks' concept of the "Manchurian Candidate" does not. The triggering of the dissociated state often involves the same techniques: eg hypnosis, narcotics, sensory deprivation, pain (whether self-inflicted, eg being made to stand with arms outstretched and fingers inches above a live electric wire, or inflicted by another person), trauma, fear. However, the "Manson Secret" concept makes explicit the fact that the people who best knew how to programme and control dissociated states were those with an occult or shamanic background.

These mind control programmes, which began with experiments on POWs, prisoners, enemy nationals and orphans, appear - over time - to have been increasingly contracted out. Sometimes this contracting out went to black military operations. I have testimony from several individuals of the increasingly sophisticated use of hypno-narcotic programming, and sensory deprivation/trauma experiments, occuring during the Vietnam War's Phoenix Program. Both on the individual level - programming of friendly operatives prior to a sensitive operation. And on the mass level - acts of horror designed psychologically to terrorize and traumatize the enemy. Douglas Valentine, the historian of the Phoenix Program, has described horrific events which take on an entirely different cast if viewed through the lens of MK-ULTRA.

The other major form of contracting out was to plausibly deniable fronts - particularly cults. Jim Jones was a protege of CIA torture specialist Dan Mitrione. Jonestown and the People's Temple, with its white leadership (many with family connections to the Chemical-Biological-Warfare nexus), its exotic and extensive pharmacy featuring drugs such as Thorazine, its medical wristbands for identifying cult members, and its "Blue-Eyed Monster" and sensory deprivation pit (a human version of mad behaviourist Harry Harlow's "pit of despair") being obvious examples.

The (People's) Temple also used electroshock treatments to modify the behavior of the children entrusted to their care. In a locked room of the San Francisco Temple was a machine that only the children to be disciplined and an attending nurse were allowed to see. The machine was named "The Blue-Eyed Monster" though later reports referred to it as "The Blue-Eyed Demon". Some said this Aryan devil was a simple cattle prod, others claimed it was a heart defibrulator or the shock treatment machine the Temple had acquired from Mendocino State Hospital. Few children would describe the apparatus; but those who did said it was a scaled-down version of an executioner's electric chair. The child was strapped into the metal chair and electrodes were attached to various parts of his or her body. Though the machine itself was hidden from the general adult congregation, Jones would call out the names of those children to be disciplined and they would be taken into the Blue-Eyed Monster's den. A microphone, attached to the public address system, was placed in the room. The general congregation heard no noises from the machine only the screams of the children attached to it. The child emerged from the room and ran to Jim Jones; grovelling at his feet to say "Thank you - Thank you" in robot-like repetition.

Later, in Jonestown, the physical beating and shock treatments of the Temple children were replaced with sheer terror in the form of "Big Foot"; a monster that Jones told them lived in a shallow well on the outskirts of the jungle community. Children who misbehaved were lowered into the well, where, unknown to them, adults were hiding in the darkness. The adults made animal sounds and grabbed at the child's dangling legs in a feigned attempt to pull him into the abyss.

[p388-9, Was Jonestown a CIA Medical Experiment?, Michael Meiers]

Jim Jones was a charismatic leader and expert hypnotist who learnt many of his techniques studying evangelical street preachers, such as David Miranda and his "Church of God is Love" movement, in Brazil. However, Jones himself may have been programmed. He seems to have had a double who appeared for photo opportunities in Castro's Cuba whilst the real Jim was being "treated" in Hawaii as a patient in the Langley-Porter Neuropsychiatric Institute (LPNI) for several months. LPNI is known to have undertaken ELF experiments on behalf of ARPA (the Advanced Research Projects Agency). Nearly every single one of the Jonestown survivors was taken to LPNI for psychiatric "evaluation" after the massacre.

Jones and his People's Temple cult were creating dissociated individuals and providing them with a new, cult-created, framework in which to live. Jonestown itself, totally cut off from the outside world, can at one level be seen as a giant sensory deprivation experiment. However, Jones was at least providing a setting and a shared mythology for his human guinea pigs. The doctors of MK-ULTRA, who attempted to programme individuals for specific tasks such as assassination, provided no such shared mythology.

All shamans know that once you open the Pandora's Box of the mind, you have to provide the initiate with a cosmology, a map for the journey. Those who ran MK-ULTRA (and its successors) were truly blind to the Pandora's Box, the Manson Secret, they were unlocking. Indeed, they were more Behaviourist or Pavlovian than Shaman.

For the first-person testimony of a recently deceased gentleman who believes he was part of the human detritus of MK-ULTRA, and the Search for the Manson Secret, "vern's" account can be found at the link below. "vern" had no documentation to prove that what he believes happened to him actually did happen - so there is a possibility that his account is not entirely true. However, there is independent corroboration that Ditran - a powerful and very nasty hallucinogen - was secretly tested on humans, and one of its victims, in his own words, was Ken Kesey:

Here:

Synopsis of the 1940 film of Maeterlinck's Blue Bird, starring Shirley Temple:

Mytyl (Shirley Temple), the bratty daughter of a woodcutter, finds a unique bird in the Royal Forest and selfishly refuses to give it to her sick friend. That night she is visited in a dream by a fairy named Berylune who sends her and her brother Tytyl to search for the Blue Bird of Happiness. To accompany them, the fairy magically transforms their dog Tylo, cat Tylette (played by Gale Sondergaard), and lantern ("Light") (played by Helen Ericson) into human form. The children have a number of adventures including a visit with their (deceased) grandparents in the Land of the Past, a stay in The Land of Luxury, an attack by angry trees and lightning which results in a forest fire, a meeting with Father Time, and, in the Land of Tomorrow, populated by unborn children, a meeting with Abraham Lincoln as a young boy (he prophesies "they will destroy me"), and a meeting with their future sister. The dream journey makes the previously unhappy and selfish Mytyl awake as a kinder and gentler girl who has learned to appreciate all the comforts and joys of her home and family. Much like MGM's The Wizard of Oz, the story starts in sepia and changes to Technicolor for the magical dream sequence.

Sharon Tate's own words:

Id like to be a fairy princessa little golden doll with gossamer wings, in a voile dress, adorned with bright, shiny things. I see that as something totally pure and beautiful. Everything thats realistic has some sort of ugliness in it."

Project Blue Bird was the first known codename for the narco-hypnosis-behaviourist-trauma mind control experimentation undertaken by US intelligence agencies in the immediate aftermath of WW2.

A key part of Lee Harvey Oswald's intelligence legend was created at the Bluebird cafe in Yamato, whilst he was stationed at the U-2 and MK-ULTRA base otherwise known at Atsugi.

And here:

Linda - some excellent Namebase-style dot joining in your post #36 above.

What we seem to have, at its most fundamental, is not only a desire to control human beings, but a fervent belief that human beings could be controlled. Like Pavlov's dogs.

The means of controlling people is an extreme, renegade, form of Behaviourism, based on pleasure and pain, reward and punishment. Combined with manipulation of the subconscious mind.

Hence all the Bluebird/Artichoke/MK-ULTRA work on dissociative states. And all the testing of hallucinogenic and psychosis-inducing drugs.

Promis was a spooky wet dream of tracking human behaviour, and using it to predict future behaviour. Again in a very crude form (although not that different from the many silly attempts used by the spooks today to "predict" future behaviour). However, it's fascinating and frightening that Earl Brian was yet another Phoenix Program veteran.

Between the "expendable" captive population in American prisons, and the "expendable" "gook" population of SE Asia in the Phoenix Program, a vast human laboratory was available to the "doctors" of MK-ULTRA (in its broad, umbrella, sense).

One little footnote. A recent biographer claimed that the spook and novelist, Anthony Burgess, based A Clockwork Orange on real behaviour modification programmes carried out in secret American military experiments, that Burgess had learned of through his intelligence connections.

So far, not so surprizing.

However the alleged location of these military experiments is a surprize. And a very suggestive one.

These experiments were said to have taken place in Fort Bliss. And Fort Bliss was where a large number of the Nazi "scientists" spirited out of Europe under Paperclip were taken.

A Nazi Blue Bird... reborn from the ashes of World World Two... in Vietnam and California... as a Phoenix???

A Phoenix Program?

Seeking to control the extremes of human behaviour through Programming.

Seeking to track and predict human behaviour through Promis.

However, as Clockwork Orange director, Stanley Kubrick, chronicled, HAL and his programmes don't always work as planned....

Jan, you'll remember a post here on the forum which repeated comments made by Old Mother Hubbard's son who stated that his dad was into occult focused S & M because certain occult practices of extreme pain and abuse create a sort of power focus or surge (I forget the exact words but this is what he was saying in point of fact).

It might be of interest to note that Franz Anton Mesmer, regarded as the originator of hypnosis (Mesmerism) was a Freemason. For his theory, Mesmer drew on Newton's ideas that there were tides in the human body that were influenced by the Moon and planets.

But I'm quite certain that exerting influence over others via hypnosis has far deeper and far, far older occult roots.

And as you know the whole background of mind control stems from techniques based on hypnotic induction. If memory serves David Ferrie was a skilled hypnotist and gay and a paedophile.

Them thar traveling Bishops eh.

I am not one of those who have a very high regard for sex as a means of attaining Nirvana. I would argue that this is "low" technique - a power/control energizer if you will. "Higher" techniques focus entirely on the alchemical marriage of the opposites that is the raw matter of the human psyche.

My guess is that Kubrick was speaking of these matters from the perspective of power and control.

I often think of the film Matrix and the analogy of humans being batteries of energy for the wicked world of machines.

Yes. And the study of hypnotic or dissociative states was right at the heart of early mind control research:

Dixie - welcome to Deep Politics Forum!

You are correct that memory is a very strange thing. Artists like Marcel Proust have written thousands of exquisite pages about its fluctuations and mystical nature.

The issue with the False Memory Syndrome Foundation is not whether some memories are "false". Of course some memories do not represent a true, or entirely accurate, account of past events.

The issue is rather that the FMSF was set up in 1992, precisely when many victims of covert "mind control" programmes such as MK-ULTRA were remembering horrible experiments that had been perpetrated on them - often as children.

The scientists involved in these covert "mind control" programmes knew the principles of creating dissociative states and false memories through narco-hypnosis. They also had access to the raw materials - chemical and human - needed.

It's important to state, on the historical record, that much of the focus of Bluebird/Artichoke/MK-ULTRA research was directed towards the creation of dissociative states in order to be able to manipulate them (for whatever precise purposes an operation demanded).

For instance, Dr Louis Jolyon West was the Top Secret Contractor for MK-ULTRA Sub-project 43: "Studies of dissociated states" (1956).

The first page is stamped: "WARNING NOTICE: SENSITIVE INTELLIGENCE SOURCES AND METHODS INVOLVED". The first page includes the following words written by West:

"The literature concerning clinical entities ordinarily considered to constitute the dissociative reactions is fairly well limited to case-studies of patients with fugues, amnesia, somnambulisms, and multiple personalities.

"Unpublished studies by the writer have led him to a greatly expanded concept of dissociation. Dissociative phenomena are found in everyday life. Such manifestations include "highway hypnosis", states of "fascination" in flyers, hypnagogic and phantasy hallucinations, transient anaesthesias, and many other examples. These reactions have many features in common with a variety of clinical disorders including "sleep paralysis", trance states, Gilles de la Tourette's disease, latah, "Arctic hysteria", and a number of other disturbances in addition to the well-known dissociative reactions of the text-books.

"There is considerable experimental evidence pointing to the significant role played by dissociative mechanisms in the production of the various phenomena of hypnosis. In fact, hypnosis may be considered a pure-culture, laboratory controlled dissociative reaction. Of the entire phenomenology of the various states described above, there is not one single manifestation which cannot be produced experimentally in the hypnotic subject. Thus, through the use of hypnosis as a laboratory device, the dissociative mechanisms can be studied with a high degree of objectivity."

(quoted on p107, Ross, "The CIA Doctors")

One can guess at what MK-ULTRA doctor, West, is referring to by his "unpublished studies". It is also revealing that West states emphatically, in 1956, that "of the entire phenomenology of the various states described above, there is not one single manifestation which cannot be produced experimentally in the hypnotic subject".

And the author of this TOP SECRET memo about MK-ULTRA research that he has conducted on humans is the very same Louis Jolyon West who became a key member of the board of the False Memory Syndrome Foundation in 1992.

Check out the link I provided in the first post in this thread listing the background of key FMSF board members.

West's background was not a mistake, or an anamoly. It was the norm for the psyop known as the False Memory Syndrome Foundation.

The following is by far the best analysis of Kubrick's film EYES WIDE SHUT that I've read to date.

All courtesy of Diligent Citizen website.

Part 1 (http://vigilantcitizen.com/moviesandtv/the-hidden-and-not-so-hidden-messages-in-stanley-kubriks-eyes-wide-shut-pt-i/)

The Hidden (And Not So Hidden) Messages in Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut” (pt. I)

Jul 8th, 2013

“Eyes Wide Shut” was promoted as a steamy, suspenseful movie starring the “It” couple of the day: Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. While the actors were prominently featured in the movie, it is everything around them that told the true story of “Eyes Wide Shut”. Stanley Kubrick’s attention to detail and symbolism gave the movie an entire other dimension – one that cannot be seen by those who have their eyes wide shut. This multiple-part series will look at the hidden symbolism of Kubrick’s final film.

http://i1.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/leadeyes1.jpg?resize=568%2C320
I remember when I first watched Eyes Wide Shut, back in 1999. Boy, did I hate it. I hated how slow everything was, I hated how Nicole Kidman tried to sound drunk or high and I hated seeing Tom Cruise walk around New York looking concerned. I guess I reacted the same way critics did at the time the movie came out and thought: “This movie is boring and there is nothing hot about it.” More than a decade later, equipped with a little more knowledge and patience, I re-watched the movie … and it blew my mind. In fact, like most Stanley Kubrick films, an entire book could be written about the movie and the concepts it addresses. Eyes Wide Shut is indeed not simply about a relationship, it is about all of the outside forces and influences that define that relationship. It is about the eternal back-and-forth between the male and female principles in a confused and decadent modern world. Also, more importantly, it is about the group that rules this modern world – a secret elite that channels this struggle between the male and female principles in a specific and esoteric matter. The movie however does not spell out anything. Like all great art, messages are communicated through subtle symbols and mysterious riddles.
Stanley Kubrick unexpectedly died only five days after submitting the final cut of the movie to Warner Bros, making Eyes Wide Shut his swan song. Considering the fact that Eyes Wide Shut is about an occult secret society that eliminates those who cross its path, some theories arose about Kubrick’s death and its suspicious nature. Did he reveal to the public too much, too soon? Maybe.
Let’s look at the main themes of Kubrick’s last creation.

The Modern Couple

The stars of Eyes Wide Shut were the “It” couple of 1999: Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Those who were expecting the movie to be a sort of voyeuristic experience showing hot scenes of the couple were probably very disappointed. The audience rather got a cold, egoistic and profoundly unsatisfied couple, one that seems to be tied together not by pure love, but by other factors, like convenience and appearances. While the couple is very “modern” and “upper-class”, the forces that keep it together are the result of basic, primal and almost animalistic behavior. If we look at the instinctive behavior of humans and animals, males primarily look for females that have good child-bearing qualities while females look for a strong provider. Remnants of this behavior still exist today as males tend to display wealth and power to attract females while females showcase their beauty to attract males. In Eyes Wide Shut, the couple perfectly follows that instinctive script.
Tom Cruise’s character is called Dr. Bill … as in dollar bill. Several times during the movie, Dr. Bill either waves his money or his “doctor badge” at people to get them to do what he wants. Bill is part of the upper class and his dealings with people of the lower class are often resolved with money.

http://i1.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/eyes4.jpg?resize=500%2C210
In order to get this taxi driver to wait for him in front of the elite mansion, Dr. Bill tears up a hundred dollar bill and promises him to give him the other half when he comes back. Dr. Bill’s motto is probably “Everybody has a price”. Does his own wife have a price?
Played by Nicole Kidman, Alice lost her job in the art world and is now fully supported by her husband’s salary. While she lives very comfortably, Alice appears to be extremely bored with her life as a stay at home mother. The name Alice is most likely a reference to the main character of Alice in Wonderland – a fairy tale about a privileged girl who is bored with her life and who goes “through the looking glass” to end up in Wonderland. In Eyes Wide Shut, Alice is often shown staring at the looking glass – grooming herself or … maybe looking for something more to life.

http://i1.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/eyes5.jpg?resize=500%2C250
Alice is often shown in front of the mirror and making herself pretty. At the beginning of the movie, almost everyone who talk to her mention her appearance. Her daughter Helena (maybe named after Helena of Troy, the most beautiful woman in the world) follows in her footsteps.

http://i2.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/eyes-wide-shut-blu-ray-cover-53.jpg?resize=300%2C311
Promotional images for the movie feature Alice kissing Bill but looking at herself in the mirror, almost as if she was seeing an alternate reality.
While the couple shows signs of fatigue, Bill and Alice put on their “happy masks” when it is time to attend social events. Like the elite people they socialize with, there is a big difference between the facade they put on and reality.
Brushing With the Elite

Bill and Alice go to a classy party given by Victor Ziegler, one of Bill’s wealthy patients. Judging from Victor’s house, he is not simply rich, he is part of the ultra-elite. While his party is very elegant and is attended by highly cultured people, it doesn’t take long for the viewers to realize that this facade hides a disgusting dark side. Also, small details inserted by Kubrick hint to a link between the party and the occult ritual that occurs later in the movie.

http://i0.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes6.jpg?resize=500%2C303
When entering the party, the first thing we see is this peculiar Christmas decoration. This eight-pointed star is found throughout the house.
http://i2.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/500px-Ishtar-star-symbol.svg_.png?resize=300%2C300
The star at Zeigler’s house is nearly identical to the ancient symbol of the star of Ishtar.
Knowing Kubrick’s attention to detail, the inclusion of the star of Ishtar in this party is not an accident. Ishtar is the Babylonian goddess of fertility, love, war and, mostly, sexuality. Her cult involved sacred prostitution and ritual acts – two elements we clearly see later in the movie.
“Babylonians gave Ishtar offerings of food and drink on Saturday. They then joined in ritual acts of lovemaking, which in turn invoked Ishtar’s favor on the region and its people to promote continued health and fruitfulness.”
- Goddess Ishtar, Anita Revel

Ishtar herself was considered to be the “courtesan of the gods” and had many lovers. While inspired in bed, she was also cruel to the men that got attached to her. These concepts will constantly reappear in the movie, especially with Alice.
During the party, Bill and Alice go their separate ways and are both faced with temptation. Alice meets a man named Sandor Szavost who asks her about Ovid’s Art of Love. This series of books, written during the times of Ancient Rome, was essentially a “How to Cheat on Your Partner” guide, and was popular with the elite of the time. The first book opens with an invocation to Venus – the planet esoterically associated with lust. Interestingly enough, Ishtar (and her equivalents in other Semetic cultures) was considered to be the personification of Venus.

http://i1.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes7.jpg?resize=500%2C269
Sandor drinks from Alice’s glass. This trick is taken right out of Ovid’sThe Art of Love. It sends Alice a message that is not very subliminal: “I want to exchange fluids with you”.
Sandor’s name might be a reference to the founder of the Church of Satan: Anton Szandor Lavey. Is this Kubrick’s way of saying that this man, who urges Alice to cheat on her husband, is a part of the occult elite and its decadent ways? The Hungarian man is apparently skilled in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) as he nearly hypnotizes Alice with well calculated phrases about the futility of married life and the necessity of pursuing pleasure.
Meanwhile, Bill is discussing with two flirtatious models who tell him that they want to take him to “where the rainbow ends”. While the meaning of this enigmatic phrase is never explicitly explained in the movie, symbols talk for themselves.
Rainbows Everywhere

Rainbows and multicolored lights appear throughout the movie, from the beginning to the end.

http://i0.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes11.jpg?resize=500%2C214
The name of the store where Bill rents his costume is called “Rainbow”. The name of the store under it: “Under the Rainbow”. Kubrick is trying to tell us something…Something involving rainbows.
As if to emphasize the theme of multicolored rainbows, almost every scene in the movie contains multicolored Christmas lights, giving most sets a hazy, dreamy glow.

http://i1.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes9.jpg?resize=500%2C276
Almost every time Bill enters a room, the first things we see are multicolored Christmas lights.
http://i1.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes10.jpg?resize=500%2C325
Sometimes Christmas lights are the focal point of attention.
These lights tie together most scenes of the movie, making them part of the same reality. There are however a few select scenes where there are absolutely no Christmas lights. The main one is Somerton palace – the place where the secret society ritual takes place.

http://i0.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes2.jpg?resize=500%2C250
Sharply contrasting with the rest of the movie, Sommerton is completely devoid of multicolored lights. Everything about this place is in sharp opposition with the “outside world”.
In Eyes Wide Shut, there are therefore two worlds: The Christmas lights-filled “rainbow world”, where the masses wander around, trying to make ends meet and the other world… “where the rainbow ends”- where the elite gathers and performs its rituals. The contrast between the two world give a sense of an almost insurmountable divide between them. Later, the movie will clearly show us how those from the “rainbow world” cannot enter the other world.
So, when the models ask Bill the go “where the rainbow ends”, they probably refer to going “where the elite gathers and performs rituals”. It might also be about them being dissociated Beta Programming slaves. There are several references to Monarch mind control (read this article for more information (http://vigilantcitizen.com/hidden-knowledge/origins-and-techniques-of-monarch-mind-control/)) in the movie. Women who take part in elite rituals are often products of Illuminati mind control. In MK Ultra vocabulary, “going over the rainbow” means dissociating from reality and entering another persona (more on this in the next article).

http://i2.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes8.jpg?resize=500%2C284
The models ask Bill to leave the “rainbow world” (there’s a Christmas tree right behind them) to indulge in the debaucherous rituals of the occult elite.
Behind the Curtain

Bill’s flirting with the models is interrupted when Ziegler calls him to his bathroom. There, we get a first glance of “where the rainbow ends” – the dark truth about the elite.

http://i1.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes12.jpg?resize=500%2C252
Bill meets Ziegler in his gigantic bathroom. The man is dressing up and is with a naked unconscious woman…who is not his wife.
If we rewind a little, when Bill and Alice first entered the party, they were welcomed by Ziegler and his wife in a room filled with Christmas lights. We saw two respectable couples talking about respectable things in room full of enchanting lights. But when Bill goes “where the rainbow ends” (notice there are no Christmas lights in the bathroom) we see reality: Ziegler with a Beta programming slave who overdosed on goofballs. When the woman gains consciousness, Ziegler talks to her in an odd, paternal matter, highlighting the fact that he’s the master and she’s the slave. The luxurious setting of this scene is Kubrick’s way of saying that extreme wealth does not necessary equal high morals.
Ziegler then urges Bill to keep everything he just saw a secret. The world “where the rainbow ends” must never be revealed to the outside world. It operates in its own space, has its own rules and depends on the masses’ ignorance.
Questioning Marriage

While Alice ultimately rejected Sandor’s advances, she was nevertheless enticed by them. The next day, Alice tells Bill that she could have cheated on him at the party. When Bill tells his wife that he loves and trusts her, she completely loses it. She then proceeds to tell him a story about how she was once ready to cheat on him with a naval officer she met in a hotel. This cruel story highlights the “Ishtar” side of Alice as she brings up in her husband feelings of jealousy, insecurity, betrayal and even humiliation. In short, Alice purposely summoned everything that is negative in relationships to pop Bill’s “love bubble”. This wake-up call prompts Bill to embark in a strange journey around New-York city, one that has multiple level of meanings. That strange night will ultimately lead him to the exact opposite of a monogamous relationship: Anonymous, masked copulation with strangers in a ritual setting. Bill’s journey will be further analyzed in the second part of this series of articles.

Conclusion of Part One

The first part of this series about Eyes Wide Shut took a broad look at Bill and Alice, a modern couple that has the “privilege” of brushing with the upper-echelon of New York. While everything appears great on the surface, Kubrick quickly tells the viewers to not be deceived by appearances and to not be impressed by exhibitions of wealth. Because, behind the “rainbow world”, exists a dark and disturbing reality, one that Kubrick exposes in many subtle ways throughout the movie.
While Bill and Alice are simply “guests” in the elite circle, they are nevertheless fascinated and attracted by it. They see in this lifestyle a way of fulfilling their dark and secret needs. In the next part of this series, we’ll look at the occult meaning of Bill’s journey – a story told by subtle symbols peppered throughout the movie.

The Hidden (And Not So Hidden) Messages in Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut” (pt. II)

Jul 18th, 2013

The second part of this series of articles on Eyes Wide Shut takes a closer look at the elite secret society discovered by the film’s main character, Bill Harford, and how it resembles real life organizations. Was Stanley Kubrick trying to warn the world about the occult elite and its depraved ways?

http://i1.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/leadeyes.jpg?resize=568%2C320

Note: It is recommended that you read the first part of this series (http://vigilantcitizen.com/moviesandtv/the-hidden-and-not-so-hidden-messages-in-stanley-kubriks-eyes-wide-shut-pt-i/) first. Also, gigantic spoilers.

In the first part of this series on Eyes Wide Shut, we looked at main characters of the film and the symbolic world Kubrick created around them. We saw that Bill and Alice Harford are a married upper-class couple that was not immune to the temptations of adultery. We also saw that the couple was in contact with the upper-echelon of New-York and its decadent ways – a world that fascinates Bill, but that has a dark side, one that is kept from the public. In this article, I will jump straight to the most unsettling part of the movie: The secret society ritual.
When Bill learns that his wife has considered cheating on him, he embarks in a strange series of encounters (which I will analyze in the third and final part of this series), eventually ending up in a luxurious house in Long Island where he encounters a large gathering of masked individuals partaking in an occult ritual. Since he was never initiated into that secret society, Bill was not even supposed to know that it existed, let alone bear witness to one of its “meetings”. So how did he find out about this thing? Well, a little birdie told him.

Nick Nightingale

At one point during his strange night out, Bill meets his old friend Nick Nightingale at a jazz cafe. The professional piano player reveals to Bill that he is sometimes hired by mysterious people to play, blindfolded, during mysterious parties that are full of beautiful women. This juicy piece of information intrigues Bill to the highest degree because, since his talk with his wife, he is appears to be looking for some kind of … experience. Nick ultimately makes a big mistake and agrees to provide Bill with all of the information needed to access the venue.
A nightingale is type of bird that is known for singing at night, just like Nick Nightingale “sings” secret information at the start of Bill’s fateful night.
The password to enter the ritual is “Fidelio”, which means “faithfulness”, a main theme of the movie. More importantly, as Nightingale points out, “Fidelio” is the name of an opera written by Beethoven about a wife who sacrifices herself to free her husband from death as a political prisoner. This password actually foreshadows what will happen during that ritual.
After getting the details from Nightingale, Bill rents a costume at a store named “Rainbow” (more about the store in the next article) … and then proceeds to go to Somerton, the estate where the party is being held.
The Occult Elite

http://i0.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/somerton.jpg?resize=500%2C301
The occult ritual takes place at Somerton, in Long Island. The building used to film the outside scene is Mentmore Towers in UK.
The location selected to film the elite scenes is quite interesting. Mentmore Towers was built in the 19th century as a country house for a member of the most prominent and powerful elite family in the world: The Rothschilds. By selecting this location, was Kubrick trying to show his audience the “real world” equivalents to the ultra-elite shown in the movie? Incidentally, the name of Bill’s connection to the elite, Victor Ziegler, is of German-Jewish origin, like Rothschild.
It has been documented that the Rothschilds do actually partake in masked events very similar to those shown in Eyes Wide Shut. Here are rare images taken from a 1972 party given by Marie-Hélène de Rothschild.

http://i1.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/roths5.jpg?resize=395%2C549
Baroness Marie-Hélène de Rothschild and Baron Alexis de Redé at a 1972 party. Invitations were printed in reversed writing. One wonders if this party “degenerated” into something resembling what is shown in Eyes Wide Shut.
In the movie, when Bill enters the mansion, he mixes with a crowd of masked people silently watching the ritual. One of these people appear to instantly recognize Bill (or the fact that he doesn’t belong here).

http://i0.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes14.jpg?resize=500%2C258
A couple wearing Venetian masks (more specifically “female jester” and “bauta” masks) slowly turn towards Bill and nod in a very creepy matter. Is this Ziegler and his wife? Perhaps. Kubrick likes to keep things mysterious.
Venetian masks were originally worn during the Italian Renaissance in Venice and were a way for the powerful elite of the time to indulge in debauchery without reprisal.
“Though the precise origin of the mask-wearing tradition can’t be known for certain, the prevailing theory goes something like this: beginning in the Italian Renaissance, Venice was an extremely wealthy and powerful merchant empire. Its position on the Mediterranean sea opened it up to a myriad of trading opportunities across Europe, North Africa and Asia Minor, and its powerful navy allowed it to exert the military force necessary to defend its vast wealth. In a city-state so prosperous, it’s a small wonder that Venetian society was class-obsessed and rigidly stratified. One’s individual standing was immensely important for the perception of his or her entire family, and so naturally the pressure to act in accordance with the social morays governing one’s social standing was immense and stifling. The Venetians, the theory goes, adopted the practice of wearing masks and other disguises during the Carnival season as a way of suspending the rigid social order. Under the cloak of anonymity, the citizens of Venice could loosen their inhibitions without fear of reprisal. Masks gained so much popularity that the mascherari (mask makers) became a venerated guild in Venetian society. However, as word of the famed Venetian Carnival spread, more and more outsiders flocked to the city every year to take part in the festivities. The Carnival celebrations became increasingly chaotic and debaucherous as the years progressed until their decline in the 18th Century.”
- Geoffrey Stanton, Guide to Venetian Carnival Masks

Since then, Venetian masks have been used in elite circles and have somewhat become a symbol of its dark occult philosophy. Even The British Royal Family appears to enjoy the same type of masks and events.

That particular Royal event featured masked women who were as NOT dressed as those in the Eyes Wide Shut ritual.

Models at the party attended by the Royal Family.
It seems evident that Kubrick carefully selected the Rothschild-owned location and hand-picked the masks worn by participants of the ritual, echoing real-life families and events.
Setting of the Ritual

When Bill enters Somerton, everything about the movie changes. There are no more colorful Christmas lights and no tacky decorations. Instead of incessant chatter between needy people, it is all about stillness and silence.

http://i1.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes15.jpg?resize=500%2C292
Staring right at the camera (and at the movie viewers), the creepy masks are silent yet disturbing reminders showing the “true faces” of the elite. Note that the multi-faced mask on the left which is similar to the one worn at the Royal party above.
The music in the movie also changes drastically. The song heard in the background is called “Backwards Priests” and features a Romanian Orthodox Divine Liturgy played backwards. The reversal or inversion of sacred objects is typical of black magic and satanic rituals. By having this Christian liturgy played backwards right before widespread fornication is Kubrick’s way of stating that the elite is nothing less than satanic.

http://i1.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes16.jpg?resize=500%2C264
Here we see Nick Nightindale playing the song “Backwards Priest”, meaning that people in the ritual actually hear that music and that the whole thing is choreographed to it. Nightindale is blindfolded because the “profane” cannot witness the occult rituals of the elite.
The interior scenes of the party were shot at Elveden Hall, a private house in the UK designed to look like an Indian palace. When the “festivities” begin, a Tamil song called “Migration” plays in the background, adding to the South-Asian atmosphere (the original version of the song contained actual scriptural recitation of the Bhagavad Gita, but the chant was removed in the final version of the movie). This peculiar Indian atmosphere, combined with the lascivious scenes witnessed by Bill as he walks around the house, ultimately points towards the most important, yet most hidden part of the movie: Tantric Yoga and its Western occultism derivative, Sex Magick. This last concept was “imported” by British occultist Aleister Crowley and is now at the center of the teachings of various secret societies:
“Aleister Crowley’s connections with Indian Yoga and Tantra were both considerable and complex. Crowley had direct exposure to some forms of these practices and was familiar with the contemporary literature of the subjects, wrote extensively about them, and – what is perhaps the most important – he practiced them. In his assessment of the value of Tantra, he was ahead of his time, which habitually considered Tantra a degenerate form of Hinduism. Instead, he claimed that, “paradoxical as it may sound the Tantrics are in reality the most advanced of the Hindus”. Crowley’s influence in bringing Eastern, primarily Indian, esoteric traditions to the West extends also to his incorporation of the elements of Yoga and Tantra into the structure and program of two influential magical orders, the A.:A.: and the OTO.”
- Martin P. Starr, Aleister Crowley and Western Esotericism

The above quote stipulates that Tantric concepts were incorporated in two important secret societies: the A.:A.: and the OTO (Ordo Templi Orientis). The OTO is still extremely influential in elite circles and reaches the highest levels of politics, business and even the entertainment industry. At the core of these orders is the Thelema, a philosophy created by Aleister Crowley that he summed up with the saying “Do What Thou Wilt”. This saying is actually a translation of “Fais ce que tu voudras” the motto of an 18th century secret society, the infamous Hellfire Club.
Hellfire Clubs were said to be “meeting places of ‘persons of quality’ who wished to take part in immoral acts, and the members were often very involved in politics”. According to a number of sources, their activities included mock religious ceremonies, devil worship and occult rituals. Although details are vague regarding that elite club, they were known for performing elementary Satanic rites as a prelude to their nights of fornication. These acts were however not just “for fun” or to “shock people” as some sources might claim, the members were initiates of occult mysteries and their rituals were based in ancient rites involving invocations and other forms of black magick.
In short, although Kubrick never actually names the secret society infiltrated by Bill, there are enough clues to understand what kind of club he is referring to. Most importantly, he is telling his viewers: These societies still exist … and they are more powerful than ever.
The Ritual and its Participants

The ritual begins with the High Priest, dressed in red, performing a ceremonial routine. He is at the center of a “magic circle” formed by young women who are very likely to be Beta Kitten slaves. Later, when Bill is unmasked, another magic circle is formed.

http://i2.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes18.jpg?resize=576%2C228
Magic circles is concept used in ritual magic during invocations. The placement of the people in this scene recalls magic circles. Right: A magic circle as pictured in an ancient grimoire.
http://i2.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes17.jpg?resize=500%2C273
The last scene of the movie takes place at a toy store – a place full of highly symbolic items (more on it in the next article). Here, Helena Harford walks by a toy called Magic Circle – showing that the occult elite’s ways seep through popular culture, but are not noticed by those who have their eyes wide shut.
Amanda

At the beginning of the ritual, one of the Beta slaves goes to Bill and urges him to leave the house before he got caught. We ultimately learn that it was Amanda, the girl that was passed out in Ziegler’s bathroom. When Bill gets caught and gets (literally) unmasked by the High Priest, Amanda appears at the balcony in a very dramatic fashion and tells the High Priest she wants to “redeem” him, in a tone that approaches ritual drama. The Priest then replies “Are you sure you understand what you’re taking upon yourself in doing this?” This implies that she will be repeatedly abused and then sacrificed.
The next day, Bill discovers the true power of that secret society.

http://i0.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes20.jpg?resize=500%2C301
Bill discovers in the newspaper that Amanda was found dead in a hotel room due to an overdose. The way in which this ritualistic murder is disguised as an overdose is highly similar to the many celebrity ritual deaths disguised as overdoses that occur in real life.
By freeze-framing and actually reading the above news article about Amanda, we learn important details about Amanda’s background (classic hidden sub-plot integration by Kubrick). To those “in the know”, the article perfectly describes the life of an entertainment industry Beta Programming slave (i.e. Marilyn Monroe). We indeed learn that Amanda was “emotionally troubled” as a teen and underwent “treatments” (a code word for MK Programming perhaps?), she had “important friends in the fashion and entertainment worlds”, and she had an “affair” with a powerful fashion designer who got “wowed by her private, seductive solo performances” (typical behavior of a Beta Kitten). What the article however conveniently doesn’t mention is that she was selling her body to elite people and being used in their occult rituals.
As it is the case for Beta Kittens who’ve gone “rogue”, she was eliminated by the people who controlled her life. The article states that she was last seen being escorted to her hotel room by two men and that she was “giggling” (drugged and dissociated?). Like “real life” elite sacrifices, “overdose” is cited as the cause of her death.
The High Priest

http://i0.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/priest.jpg?resize=500%2C372
Cloaked in red, the High Priest sits on a throne which features a very important symbol: A double-headed eagle topped by a crown.
http://i2.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/doubleheadedeagle.jpg?resize=400%2C297
The double-headed eagle is one of the most ancient and prominent symbols of Freemasonry. A crowned double headed eagle is representative of the 33rd degree of Freemasonry, the highest degree attainable. Is Kubrick implying that the High Priest is a 33rd Degree Freemason?
Like other participants of the ritual, the true identity of the High Priest is never revealed. However, Kubrick left a few clues hinting to his identity and his relationship with Amanda.
In the movie’s end credits (and sources such as IMDB), it is listed that the role of the High Priest was played by “assistant director” of the movie, Leon Vitali. If one carefully reads the news article mentioned above, Leon Vitali is the name of the London fashion designer Amanda had an “affair” with. Furthermore, the High Priest has an unmistakable English accent. We can therefore deduce that the High Priest is the fashion designer.

http://i1.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes21.jpg?resize=274%2C245
Snippet of the article mentioning Leon Vitali.
This hidden subplot is interesting as it reveals the true nature of the fashion and entertainment industry. High-ranking individuals in these fields are initiated in occult secret societies and deal with MK slaves.
The Power of the Secret Society

When Bill is uncovered by the High Priest, he gets told that he and his family would pay for any transgression. The next day, he realizes that he is being followed by strange people and becomes paranoid.

http://i2.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes22.jpg?resize=500%2C347
The headline of this newspaper is “Lucky to be alive”. This applies to Bill.
Right after Bill leaves the morgue to confirm that Amanda died, Ziegler calls him and invites him over.

http://i1.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/eyes23.jpg?resize=500%2C303
Taking place in Ziegler’s pool room, the back and forth between the two men is more intense than any game of pool.
Although Bill is a rich doctor, he is not part of the elite. Ziegler’s attitude towards Bill makes it very clear. While Ziegler appears to want to be honest and straight with Bill, we realize that he is simply trying to cover the ugly truth. After all, Bill is an “outsider”. He tells Bill:
“I don’t think you realize what kind of trouble you were in last night. Who do you think those people were? Those were not just ordinary people there. If I told you their names – I’m not gonna tell you their names – but if I did, I don’t think you’d sleep so well.”

Ziegler therefore admits that people attending the ritual were high-level, well-known and powerful people. Kubrick is therefore making clear that the richest, most powerful deciders of the “real world” meet in these types of rituals … and that these rituals are off-limits for the profane.
When Bill mentions Amanda, Ziegler gets more defensive and replies: “She was a hooker” – meaning that she was an Beta slave that could be easily disposed of. Then Ziegler tells Bill that everything that happened at the ritual was a charade to scare him, Bill answers:
“You called it a fake, a charade. Do you mind telling me what kind of f—-cking charade ends with someone turning up dead?”

This highlights the fundamental difference between the public’s perception of occult rituals and what actually happens. Regular people are lead to believe that these elite rituals are nothing more than goofy meetings of people with too much time on their hands. In reality, these elaborate rituals often incorporate real attempts at Black Magick and include real blood sacrifices and other terrible acts.
Then Ziegler proceeds to telling Bill the same stuff media tells the masses when someone has been sacrificed by the elite: She OD’ed, she was a junkie, it was only a matter of time, and the police did not see any foul play.

Conclusion of Part II

The second part of this analysis focused exclusively on the unnamed secret society Bill stumbles upon and its ritual. Although nothing is explicitly spelled out to the viewers, the symbolism, the visual clues and even the music of Eyes Wide Shut tell reveals a side of the occult elite that is rarely shown to the masses. Not only does the movie depict the world’s richest and most powerful people partaking in occult rituals, it also shows how this circle has also the power to exploit slaves, to stalk people, and even to get away with sacrificial murders. Even worse, mass media participates in covering their crimes.
The secret society in the movie closely resembles the infamous Hellfire Club, where prominent political figures met up to partake in elaborate Satanic parties. Today, the O.T.O. and similar secret societies still partake in rituals involving physical energy as it is perceived to be a way to attain a state of enlightenment. This concept, taken from Tantric yoga, is at the core of modern and powerful secret societies. Although none of this is actually mentioned in Eyes Wide Shut, the entire movie can be interpreted as one big “magickal” journey, characterized by a back-and-forth between opposing forces: life and death, lust and pain, male and female, light and darkness, and so forth … ending in one big orgasmic moment of enlightenment. This aspect of the movie, along with other hidden details, will be analyzed in the third and final part of this series of articles on Eyes Wide Shut.

The Hidden (And Not So Hidden) Messages in Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut” (pt. III)

In the third and final part of this series on Eyes Wide Shut, we’ll look at Bill’s journey as a whole and at its underlying esoteric meaning. We’ll see how symbolism placed by Kubrick connects all of the women in the movie, making Bill’s encounters a multi-faceted exploration of the feminine principle.

Note: It is recommended that you read the first (http://vigilantcitizen.com/moviesandtv/the-hidden-and-not-so-hidden-messages-in-stanley-kubriks-eyes-wide-shut-pt-i/) and second (http://vigilantcitizen.com/moviesandtv/the-hidden-and-not-so-hidden-messages-in-stanley-kubricks-eyes-wide-shut-pt-ii/) part of this series first. Also, again, gigantic spoilers.

The previous parts of this series of articles on Eyes Wide Shut was solely dedicated to the secret society discovered by Bill. This elite club, attended by the world’s most powerful people, deals with Satanism, black magick and even ritual sacrifices. Aided by his friend Nightingale, Bill infiltrates one of the secret society’s occult rituals and witnesses a ceremony presided over by a high priest. Then an orgy ensued.
In the second article, I explained how real life secret societies, such as the Hellfire club and the O.T.O., actually practice these kinds of rituals. The occult principles behind them derive from Tantric yoga, where the energy generated by physical arousal is used to reach a “higher state”. This concept was reused (and maybe corrupted) by Aleister Crowley who called it “Sex Magick”. According to him and his peers, knowledge of this type of magick was the biggest secret of past secret societies and was only disclosed to the highest initiates.

There is, however, no (direct) mention of any of this in Eyes Wide Shut. In fact, the ceremony witnessed by Bill, with its elaborate choreography and its creepy music, appears to be one big, empty, phony piece of dramatic theater that simply exists to give the rich people some kind of mystical reason to engage in gratuitous debauchery. While Kubrick stripped the occult ritual of all of its esoteric, “magickal” meaning, he did infuse the entire movie with it. If one looks at the pace of the movie, at Bill’s journey and the people he encounters, it becomes somewhat apparent that the “magick” does not occur during the ritual itself but during the movie as a whole. Was Kubrick somehow initiated to occult secrets? Was he trying to communicate them through his movie? Let’s look at the concepts behind the ritual.
Kundalini Rising

The concept of magick through reproductive forces is said to originate from ancient ritual practices, as traces of it can be found in Hinduism, Taoism and in Medieval secret societies, such as the Knight Templars. In today’s Western world, the O.T.O is said to be the heir of this path as it claimed by Aleister Crowley and his acolyte, Theodor Reuss.
“Theodor Reuss was quite categoric: the OTO was a body of initiates in whose hands was concentrated the secret knowledge of all oriental orders and of all existing Masonic degrees.(…) The order had “rediscovered” the great secret of the Knights Templar, the magic of sex, not only the key to ancient Egyptian and hermetic tradition, but to all the secrets of nature, all the symbolism of Freemasonry, and all systems of religion.”
- Peter Tomkins, The Magic of Obelisks

The basic principle behind this “great secret” is the raising of the Kundalini or “life force”, an energy that can be used for magickal purposes.
“In all Tantric magic, the essential requirement – whether in the ecstasy of couples or the solo ritual of a priestess – involved the raising of the energy known as the serpent of fire, or kundalini. This mysterious energy described as lying dormant in the lowest of the seven chakras, can be aroused by two distinct methods, called, traditionally, the right- and the left-hand path. The right hand allots supremacy to the male principle, the left to the feminine. As the serpent power is aroused, according to clairvoyants, it climbs up the backbone of the adept, energizing each chakra, till it emerges from the skull – symbolically as the snake’s head like those so clearly depicted in Egyptian statuary.
(…)
As adepts describe the rising of the serpent, it unites with the “many-petaled louts of the cerebral region” to bring about illumination – or the highest form of initiation -as the current “climbs from the duality to unity by reversing the path it originally took the chakras to procreate humanity.”
Details of the OTO’s initiation into Hindu and Tibetan Tantra, including ceremonies involving the use of “exudation” from specifically trained priestess were brought to a wider public by Crowley’s follower Kenneth Grant. Sacred courtesans, experts in ritual eroticism, known in India as nautch girls (…) were exceptionally honored.”
- Ibid.

While sacred courtesans were “exceptionally honored” in Eastern esotericism, today’s twisted black magic orders use Beta Programming slaves and dispose of them when they are through with them. In short, the exact opposite of being “exceptionally honored”.
Kundalini rising, the concept behind Tantric magic is wholly represented in a single image, Eliphas Levi’s depiction of Baphomet.

http://i2.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Baphomet.png?resize=299%2C439
This famous depiction of Baphomet includes all of the symbols behind Sex Magick – the rising of the kundalini (represented by the phallic pole wrapped by two serpents) through the union of opposite forces. The torch above the goat head represents illumination.
So what does all of this have to do with Eyes Wide Shut? At first glance, nothing much. While we see a ritual involving “sacred courtesans” in the movie, there is absolutely no mention of “kundalini rising” during the whole thing. However, if we take a closer look at Bill’s journey as a whole, from the beginning of the movie to the end, we realize that the real ritual does not occur at the elite mansion, but within Bill’s head. As he encounters new women and is exposed to new opportunities, his kundalini rises – and Kubrick added clues to denote this fact.
The Movie as a Ritual

While Eyes Wide Shut appears to be all about sexuality, nobody in the movie ever reaches climax. While Bill has many chances of satisfying his urges with attractive women, it never actually happens. However, as the movie progresses, there’s a definite increase in desire and lust, but Bill manages to keep it under control. Managing this “life force” is at the core of Tantric magic. Viewers are constantly reminded of this process several times during the movie when Bill imagines his wife with a naval officer. Each flash is increasingly intense – going from kissing to all-out copulating.

http://i0.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/eyes25a.jpg?resize=500%2C278
As the movie progress, Bill’s flashes of Alice cheating on him become more intense. Towards the end of the movie, she’s about to reach climax. These scenes reflect Bill’s kundalini rising. Having these flashes would be hurtful and painful and they remind the viewers that Bill’s journey started out of pain and humiliation.
http://i0.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/eyes26.jpg?resize=500%2C273
Towards the end of the movie, Bill is so horny that he gets flirty and grabby with a complete stranger, minutes after he met her. While that scene was rather odd and surreal, it reflects his “progress” in the ritual.
The very last lines of the movie conclude and define Bill’s journey. After running around New York and getting aroused by all kinds of stuff, Bill stands face-to-face with his wife and talks about how “awake” he is now. With his “life force” fully charged, Alice ends the movie with a phrase completing the ritual:
“- I do love you. And you know, there is something very important that we need to do a soon as possible.
- What’s that?
- F*ck.”

Ending the movie on that particular note suggests that the entire journey was one of increasing intensity, one that ultimately lead to a “magickally charged ” climax, the goal of Crowleyan-magick.
Bill’s journey was not all fun and games, however. As the movie progresses, there is a constant back-and-forth between pleasure and pain, attraction and repulsion, life and death, and so forth. The path is all about duality and, just like the floors of Masonic lodges are checkered in black and white, Bill’s journey consists on his alternatively stepping on black and white tiles – seeing the dualistic nature of all things.
Eros and Thanatos

Bill’s night out in New York City is characterized by numerous encounters with the female gender – each one of them offering a “cure” to a broken heart. However, each encounter also bears a potentially destructive aspect to it, one that counterbalances its appeal and attraction. While Bill is looking to procreate, he sees that his urges engender pain and even death. Bill’s journey is therefore a back-and-forth between man’s two basic impulses as defined by Freud: Eros and Thanatos.
Freud saw in Eros the instinct for life, love and sexuality in its broadest sense, and in Thanatos, the instinct of death, aggression. Eros is the drive toward attraction and reproduction; Thanatos toward repulsion and death. One leads to the reproduction of the species, the other toward its own destruction. While each one of Bill’s encounters promise the sweet temptation of lust, they also have a destructive counter side.

http://i1.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/26-06-2013-12-51-19-PM.jpg?resize=500%2C254
Bill’s first encounter occurs when he visits one of his regular patients that died. The dead patient’s daughter kisses Bill and tells him that she loves him. We therefore see in this scene a juxtaposition of concepts of lust and desire with death. Also, if Bill went with this woman, it would ultimately hurt her husband – another bad side of succumbing to lust.
Each one of Bill’s female encounters promises gratification, but ends up being interrupted by something negative, such as guilt or potential danger. Also, every time Bill is in contact with the sleazy-yet-tempting aspects of lust (prostitution or slavery), he quickly discovers the dark, exploitative and destructive side of it.
For instance, right after Bill enjoyed the “delights” of seeing MK Kittens at work at the elite ritual, when returning his costume, he immediately sees the dark side of it all. The shop owner, who previously caught his underage daughter with two Asian businessmen and was outraged by it, had a sudden change of heart.

http://i2.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/eyes27.jpg?resize=500%2C303
Standing behind his business counter, the shop owner sells his underage daughter as if she was another product. After enjoying masked slaves in lavish rituals, Bill sees the other side of the “trade”: Young girls being sold by exploitative people to a system feeding on minors, turning them into MK slaves. Is that why this store was called “Rainbow”?
Bill’s journey is therefore one that continually alternates between the primal allure of lust and the destructive social constructs that are erected around it. There is nothing more basic and instinctual than carnal attraction, but our modern world has made these relations complex, bound by rules, and prone to exploitation. While lust is nature’s way of pushing humans to procreate, social constructs have created all kinds fetishes, distortions, games, and perversions around this primal urge … to the point that it has been denatured and debased into an unhealthy obsession.
As Bill navigates between joy and pain, monogamous marriage and anonymous debauchery, we notice that there’s a common thread uniting his various encounters.
Red-Headed Women

The most important women in the movie are Bill’s wife, his daughter Helena, Amanda (the Beta slave who was sacrificed at the ritual) and Domino (a prostitute he met on the street). All three adult women are somewhat physically similar as they are tall, well-proportioned, and red-headed. They also appear to be connected on “another level”.
While Alice is a respectable, upper-class lady, she makes a living using her looks in loveless relationship, a little like what a prostitute would do. On the other hand, the time spent between Bill and Domino is sweet and tender, a little with what happens in a loving relationship. Alice is therefore not very different from Domino, and vice-versa.
There are also links with Amanda. While Alice was (probably) not at the occult ritual attended by Bill, when he comes back from it, she describes to him a dream that is similar to what he just witnessed and what Amanda just experienced.
“He was kissing me. Then we were making love. Then there were all these other people around us, hundreds of them, everywhere. Everyone was f-cking. And then I …I was f-cking other men. So many. I don’t know how many I was with. And I knew you could see me in the arms of all these men … just f-cking all these men.”

Alice’s dream “connects” her with Amanda who was at the ritual and who actually lived Alice’s dream.

http://i0.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/leadeyes3.jpg?resize=500%2C282
The day after the ritual, Bill finds his mask creepily “sleeping” next to his wife. Is this Alice’s way of saying that she’s aware of what’s going on? Maybe that she’s participating in this? Is it a warning from the secret society? Alice never acknowledges the mask, so I guess we’ll never know.
Was Domino at the ritual? It is also interesting to point out that “Domino” is a type of mask used in these types of gatherings.

http://i2.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Electronic-Tattoo.jpg?resize=248%2C204
A Domino mask
Looking closer at the “magic circle” formed by the women of the ritual, we can identify a few women who could be Domino. The day after the ritual, Bill shows up at Domino’s house with a gift, but her roommate informs him that she is HIV-positive … and that she might never be back again. Is this true or was Domino yet another “casualty” in Bill’s journey? Like Amanda and Nightingale, Domino mysteriously disappears after the ritual.
The fact that these women are all connected reveals one fundamental fact: Bill’s journey is not about a specific woman, it is about the feminine principle as a whole. It is an esoteric quest to understand and “be one with” the feminine principle that is opposite to his.
Helena Down the Same Path?

Throughout the movie, Helena (Bill’s daughter) is shown to be groomed to be another Alice. There are also some cues linking Helena to Domino. For instance, there’s a stroller in front of Domino’s apartment and, at the end in the movie, in the toy store, Helena is very interested by a stroller and shows it to her mother.

http://i2.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/eyes29.jpg?resize=500%2C294

http://i2.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/eyes30.jpg?resize=500%2C278
An entire row of this exact same toy is at the store where Helena shops in the final scene of the movie.
There is also something strange about the scene above: the two men behind Helena happened to be at Ziegler’s party at the very beginning of the movie.

http://i2.wp.com/vigilantcitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/eyes31.jpg?resize=448%2C249
The two same men at Ziegler’s party: same hair, same physical stature and the guy on the right wears similar glasses.
Why are these two men in the store, looking at toys? Is New York City such a small town? Was Kubrick lacking extras to appear in that scene? Unlikely. Could it be that they’re part of the secret society that’s been following Bill and his family? Strange fact: When the men walk away and disappear from the shot, Helena appears to follow them … and we don’t see her for the rest of the movie. The camera indeed zooms onto Alice and Bill, who are completely absorbed with themselves. Is this a VERY subtle way of saying that their daughter will be sucked in by the Beta slave system of the secret society? Another enigma.
In Conclusion

Stanley Kubrick’s works are never strictly about love or relationships. The meticulous symbolism and the imagery of all of his works often communicate another dimension of meaning–one that transcends the personal to become a commentary on our epoch and civilization. And, in this transitional period between the end of 20th century and the beginning of the 21th century, Kubrick told the story of a confused man who wanders around, desperately looking for a way to satisfy his primal urges. Kubrick told the story of a society that is completely debased and corrupted by hidden forces, where humanity’s most primal urge–procreation–has been cheapened, fetishized, perverted, and exploited to a point that it has lost all of its beauty. At the top of this world is a secret society that revels in this context, and thrives on it. Kubrick’s outlook on the issue was definitely not idealistic nor very optimistic.
His grim tale focuses on a single man, Bill, who is looking for an undefined something. Even if he appears to have everything, there is something missing in his life. Something visceral and fundamental that is never put into words, but that is quite palpable. Bill cannot be complete if he is not at peace with the opposite of him: the feminine principle. Bill’s quest, therefore, follows the esoteric principle of uniting two opposite forces into one. As suggested by the last lines of the movie, Bill will ultimately “be one” and get physical with his wife. After that, the alchemical process and the Tantric ritual would be complete. However, as Kubrick somehow communicates in the final scene, even if these two extremely self-absorbed, egoistical and superficial people believe they’ve reached a some kind of epiphany, what does it really change? Our civilization as a whole still has its eyes wide shut … and those were Kubrick’s last cinematographic words.

Horrifying. Again.

I never get the connection in this thread. It does remind me of The Most Dangerous Book in the World (https://deeppoliticsforum.com/forums/showthread.php?10669-The-Most-Dangerous-Book-in-the-World-9-11-as-mass-slaughter/page2#.UzXNWYXB1IE).

Lauren, maybe this link (http://www.luckymojo.com/tktantradefinition.html) will help?

The so called "left hand path" of Hindu tantra yoga can easily be debased, which is what I think Kubrick is pointing at in the film, and rather than being used by a wise teacher to help to achieve greater consciousness, can be used for darker purposes - as seen in the film.

Actually David, what I meant to say is this: I don't get the connection of Eyes Wide Shut to 9/11, which of course is in the title of the thread. I re-read it and don't see it spell out. Maybe I am missing something obvious.
So, why did I write what I wrote above? For the same reason I wrote, The Who Saved The World, that's why. ::facepalm::

Tantric sex? Goodness. My people in Minnesota would say after slight pause in the conversation, Well now, there ya are. How about a cookie with that coffee, then? Looks like the weather might change, ya know. Where did you say you were from?

I have no idea why either, and Nate didn't get around to answering Jan's question asking for the connection.

A cookie would be just fine with my coffee. Is it okay to dunk it in my... tantric -- oh never mind, I think I see a kundalini snake yonder in the garden. ::smoking::

Lauren, I've been doing some further research on this, and as a byproduct of that stumbled upon this website (http://www.thebabylonmatrix.com/index.php?title=911:Occult_symbolism_IV#Maltese_cr oss). Scroll down to the Octagram and compare with the 8 rayed star in Kubrick's film.

My guess is that this was what prompted Nate to pose the question.

More later.

Just finished the following:

**

Following on from the prior 3 posts, I think it would help to illuminate things a little more, by making some additional facts available. I’m simplifying an extraordinary dense subject, so forgive me if the following is a bit more tangled than usual, as I don’t have the time to do it full justice at the moment.

Firstly, as noted above the star symbol that kept appearing throughout the film, and which the author identified as the Star of Ishtar, is more often known as the Star of Astaroth, where Astaroth is a Crowned Prince of Hell, and a male figure named after the Canaanite Goddess Ashtoreth, a name that was itself derived from the Phoenician Goddess Astarte.

Astarte is associated with several opposing aspects including being the Goddess of love, motherhood and fertility, but also sexuality and war. She was an important deity of the Phoenician towns of Sidon and Tyre, which probably, is where the Knights Templars first came across her - and yes, the Templars very much feature in Eyes Wide Shut.

As Ashtoreth, she was a deity of gross sensuality and lasciviousness and worship of her was often accompanied by human sacrifice and ecstatic exercises.

5837
Depiction of Astaroth from the 1818 Dictionnaire Infernal

Qabalistically speaking, Astraroth is regarded as an arch demon of the Quiploth, where the latter is regarded as the evil and impure spirits - or “shells” - of the dark side of the Tree of Life, namely the Tree of Evil.

The 8 rayed star that features in the film is an octagram. This is also the principal symbol of the Knights Templar, the Maltese Cross. And Knight Templar is the thirtieth degree of Scottish Rite Freemasonry, known as the Knight Kadosh - where Kadosh means consecrated.

Just to make sure we know what he is telling us, Kubrick emphasizes the Scottish Rite connection by showing us the symbol of the double headed eagle that adorns Red Cloak’s “chair”. This is the primary symbol of Scottish Rite Freemasons and is an Order that is very much American in nature (deriving from the original French order).

The double headed eagle appears across the world as a religious symbol - it is the Storm Bird of the middle east, the native American indian Thunder Bird, the Hindu Garuda etc etc. It is a symbol reflecting both the positive and negative poles of life as does the Goddess Astarte. Once again this important point about duality has been emphasized by Kubrick.

The double headed bird looks in opposite directions. This tells us that it is like all significant symbols; it has a positive and also a negative side. It can represent growth and harmony, but also destruction and disharmony etc. Integrating and balancing these opposing forces of nature is the task of the hero. Disintegrating and unbalancing them is the wish and desire of the dark magus of the film.

Moreover, the double-headed eagle is the symbol associated with the Grand Elect Knight of Kadosh (formerly the Illustrious and Grand Commander of the White and Black Eagle, Grand Elect Kadosh). And this too, emphasizes the Knights Templar aspect of this story.

5836

These two symbols, namely the octagram and the double headed eagle together confirm that Red Cloak is a Knight Templar - in other words he holds the 30th degree, the Knight of Kadosh of Scottish rite freemasonry.

Thus we have an interlocking, resonating mesh of symbols which we have had our attention drawn to by Kubrick: Knights Templars/ Knights Kadosh, Scottish Rite freemasonry and the dark sexual, warring side of Astarte, a pagan Goddess of great antiquity.

Why was Kubrick telling us these particular facts?

My conclusion is that he was saying that the American ruling elite are Scottish Rite freemasons and that they, at some point (or at least those selected for the elevation) are initiated into the negative, dark side of occultism that is activated and controlled by 30th degree and higher Masters of this order. I further conclude, based on the death of Amanda in the film, that once you step into this milieu you cannot step out of it again. Breathing that is.

That Freemasonry is immensely powerful in America is not doubted by the way. Several presidents and many others in influential positions in government and business have been high masons.

An equally important a question, I think, is how did Kubrick know of these matters? After all it is very dense, specialized and technical subject - and not one you would expect to stumble into. Was Kubrick himself a freemason of the Scottish rite? Was his film Eyes Wide Shut a way of not only telling the public the hidden reality of American life, but was also his way of trying to disengage himself from that morass? Was his death within a few days of turning over his final cut of the film to Warner Brothers, a message to others of that order that no one, once ensnared at this level of knowledge, will ever be permitted to escape their capture alive.

I suspect so.

David About 20 years ago I came across a book by a guy in Ariz named Ralph Epperson called The New World Order. I have not read it again in as many years but his book reaches those same conclusions. Very detailed. Not very well written but great material. He and I are facebook friends now. Book is definitely worth obtaining in my opinion.

I think this is a good analysis.

For anyone interested, this website has a lot of useful research on the subject of Masonic/occult symbolism and history: http://www.conspiracyarchive.com/Articles/Militant_Masonry.htm

"My conclusion is that he was saying that the American ruling elite are Scottish Rite freemasons and that they, at some point (or at least those selected for the elevation) are initiated into the negative, dark side of occultism that is activated and controlled by 30th degree and higher Masters of this order. I further conclude, based on the death of Amanda in the film, that once you step into this milieu you cannot step out of it again. Breathing that is."

I have just never bought onto 9/11 NWO/Illuminati symbolism. Working on it. But then there is this... OMG

Interesting. The Eye of Horus for sure.

I'm with you Lauren, about finding it hard to buy into this whole thing. But the more I look, the more my reservations reduce. Occult symbolism is everywhere. The guy who did the 3 part analysis above, also analysed the footage of the London olympic opening and closing ceremonies. It was unquestionably a ceremonial packed with Fremasonic symbolism. I've not looked sat it carefully, but I would not be quite so negative about the interpretation as he without delving deeper. Not all freemasons are into the power angle. Amazing as it sounds, some really do want to help man progress.

And to re-emphasise that all important symbols can be used for positive, beneficial outcomes or when reversed is used for the opposite.

"Brick maker" = a builder, and "builder" is the name freemasons use to describe their order, I believe.

Below extracted from thetruthsekker.blog (http://thetruthseekersguide.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/the-stanley-kubrick-conspiracy-part-6.html)

Kubrick completed his final cut of “Eyes Wide Shut” in March 1999. Within the first several days of the month, the film was viewed by the key actors involved, some of Kubrick’s friends and family, and certain Warner Brother executives. Kubrick died days later, on the 7th March. It is widely claimed that the “Kubrick cut” of March 1999 was almost an hour longer in length than the publically released film. The cut material also allegedly included dream-like sequences of a mind-bending, reality-distorting nature. Why was this material removed from the film? The myriad of continuity errors, particularly the pool room scene, indicate heavy editing that is inconsistent with Kubrick’s style and standard. Kubrick loved to edit his films with meticulous precision. “Editing is the only aspect of the cinematic art that is unique. It shares no connection with any other art form: writing, acting, photography, things that are major aspects of the cinema, is still not unique to it, but editing is.” Kubrick’s “final” edit was witnessed (and approved by Warner Bros.) and seemingly differs dramatically from the released film. Why? http://www.visual-memory.co.uk/faq/index4.html (http://www.visual-memory.co.uk/faq/index4.html)

Ironically, Kubrick’s contract with Warner Bros. stated that “Eyes Wide Shut” was to be released on July 6th 1999, exactly thirty years to the day of the Apollo 11 “landing”. Is it possible that the claims of his involvement with the Apollo

Yes this has been mentioned, or touched on. In my opinion he was using Cruise to warn us.
Several years ago I did a lot of research on Scientology and was horrified. It's an extremely dangerous cult. And thanks to several former high ranking members who have written books, the truth is getting out there.
Kidman and Cruise divorced so that she could get free of them. Same with Katy Holmes.
On a different note: Remote viewing, a Scientology tool. If it works why haven't those guys found the missing plane. Just sayin' :)

Yes Keith, I was aware of that thanks.

In fact there are some older threads on the forum where both these aspects have been discussed (Cruise as top Scientoloigist, and Hubbard as a member of the O.T.O. and occult buddy of Jack Parsons). Hubbard also, according to his son, received the entire very nasty occult secrets of the Nazi Thule Gesellschaft too, after WWII.

Crowley was initiated (http://Theodor Reuss) into Scottish Rite Freemasonry in Mexico City in June 1900 by an "irregular" Lodge. Furthermore, Crowley's O.T.O. was authorised by the German mason Theodor Reuss, who had access to a significant Celtic Grimoire on the occult, a manuscript called The Book of Secret Knowledge (http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=fkCkqj8HuWwC&pg=PR15&lpg=PR15&dq=Theodor+Reuss+and+Thule+Society&source=bl&ots=Py6sAHwkjb&sig=4Ule5zsxpouMAB_EN_p2RsIHIBU&hl=en&sa=X&ei=gp85U7zdLdGshQeU8YGoDA&ved=0CEcQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q=Theodor%20Reuss%20and%20Thule%20Society&f=false) - that later passed on to Rudolf von Sebottendorff, who founded the Thule Society. It is believed this same Celtic manuscript was acquired by the Knights Templars.

When Rudolf Hess flew to Scotland in 1941, he had a copy of this book that he planned to give to the Duke of Hamilton as a gesture go goodwill. The book ended up in the possession of the Occult Division of Her majesty's Security Service - which is poetic when you realise that England;s secret service was originally devised in the mid 1500's by Dr. John Dee, a magician of some renown, who's secret sigil was 007.

The poetry I mention above is the fact that that very same book had once been owned by none other than Dee himself, but was stolen, possibly by his associate Edward Kelly who ended up living in Bohemia - what is now called the Czech Republic.

It's a small world isn't it.

RKL at#26 invites us to look at Militant Masonry (http://www.conspiracyarchive.com/Articles/Militant_Masonry.htm). For me, the most intriguing is the development to hide organizational intent and cohesiveness within other organizational structures. The author describes how revolutionary cadres were hidden within Masonic lodges.

The budding revolutionaries during the subsequent centuries marveled at the ingeniousness, almost military precision of such a stratagem. They must have; for it was replicated, implemented, and tinkered with endlessly. The beauty of such a system is the simplicity and rate with which it could be expanded, all the while maintaining a protective buffer for those “unknown superiors” at the top. Additionally, those at the same level had no way of contacting, or even knowing that the others existed—both a cellular and pyramidal structure.

In this way the Masons could be used as a hiding place and as a source of recruitment. With regard to the Illuminati, they survived by infiltrating other organizations and ultimately bending and shaping the host to its purposes.

With regard to the elites of EWS, their existence and purposes must remain hidden, which can only happen by the infiltration of sleeper moles in key positions within society.

I think very few people have viewed his last film...it is a bit obscure and a 'disappointment' for anyone hoping to see a continuation or even something along the lines of 2001 - or any of his earlier films.

Plenty of people saw the film on original release; the casting of Cruise/Kidman and the director's untimely death created a huge amount of publicity, it also has a significant following both within and outside the wider Kubrick 'fanbase'. As to where it sits alongside the rest of his work; themes of dehumanization, mind control and the abuse of power by ruling elites are common in his works from Paths of Glory onwards. Even something like Barry Lyndon (ostensibly a costume drama) is really the story of a lower-class upstart who pays the price for attempted social mobility. Also, something that often gets overlooked with Eyes Wide Shut in this kind of analysis, are it's literary roots in Arthur Schnitzler's novella Traumnovelle which, despite being set in 19th century Vienna, the film is a fairly faithful adaptation of. So the themes and symbols are not entirely Kubrick's own anyway.

I have read that he had an iron clad contract with Warner Bros for full editorial control over EWS, and that Warner's had agreed not to edit or change it one iota under that contract. According to the piece I read, once he was dead this contract ended and Warner removed some unidentified scenes.

Kubrick had final cut on all of his films with Warner Brothers, so it was nothing unusual. In the case of Eyes Wide Shut, some of the shots during the orgy sequence were digitally obscured for the original U.S release (simply to avoid a commercially damaging NC-17 rating), this version is no longer the one in circulation and was never released internationally.

Here is a posting on Eyes Wide Shut I wrote a few years ago on another blog.
Iv'e updated this material

Truth has not a chance to prevail in this era of EYES WIDE SHUT.
The time predicted in the occult classic Eyes Wide Shut by the late director Stanley Kubrick.

Many people speculate that Mr. Kubrick’s untimely death after he made Eyes Wide Shut had to do with the content of the movie…. His displaying the occult sexual magic rituals of the elite rulers of the world. Some speculate this may have caused these occultists to have done in Mr. Kubrick. This just may be the case, but not for the reasons mentioned above: that being the elite having a serious problem with Kubrick revealing their sex secrets, but in fact Kubrick reveals something much more subtle, sinister and awful.

Indeed, what Kubrick was very esoterically informing us about was considerably more nuanced and underneath the theme of the movie, but interestingly, the very title of the movie gives us a huge hint of what he was revealing. To understand this point in context, though, one has to look at the history and themes of Kubrick’s past movies and their relationship to the popular culture, that’s the key here.

Starting with the 50’s classic “The Killing” a gritty crime drama that captured the environment of the criminal element in modern society as Kubrick was so adept at doing in his realistic portrayals of life. This theme of crime continued in Kubrick’s repertoire in another classic “A Clockwork Orange” done in 1971 16 years after “The Killing”. Both drama’s as noted emphasized crime in modern society, “The Killing,” a tale about robbery and the criminal underground and Clockwork a more updated tale of not only crime but the kinds of crimes that are relative to the Charles Manson and spree and awful serial killers of our time, late 60’s and early 70’s.

The themes in these two movies seem to be portents by Kubrick of a coming era were such crime and types of crimes as in Clockwork and " The Killing" will be rampant and pervade American society( think about today’s many mad killers rampant and the previous high crime era of traditional crime that has overflowed our modern prison system). Certainly such a criminal element was around at the time that Kubrick made these movies, but the degree certainly was not as extensive as it would become in later years…

Similarly, as in two other Kubrick classic’s, “Dr Strangelove, in 1964, and “2001Space Odyssey,” in1968, we have portents of the Star Wars, Star Trek syndrome in the case of 2001, and the macho “nuke em” mentality of a certain type of American patriot in Dr Strangelove which became more personified in the 80’s Reagan era.

Indeed, notwithstanding the genius in Mr. Kubrick, we may have here a pattern of not only unique talent and insight, but if we look closely some kind of pre-knowledge or prescience of Kubrick that indicates he may have been tapped into some occult thought stream—if not being a secret adept himself—dedicated to revealing to us through the popular entertainment vehicle of film, the plans that the elite have for molding society to their desires.

Now we return to the subject of “Eyes Wide Shut” which may have been Kubrick’s swan song or his final clarion call to us about the plans of these secret elites. Indeed we know that openly the movie frames itself around the tale of a young yuppie middle class Doctor stumbling across the sexual magic rituals of the powerful elite, and their reaction to that in the extent they will go to in covering up their tracks, which includes murder. Also, as some commentator’s have mentioned, there is a powerful theme of sex slavery brainwashing (ala’ MK Ultra) in the drama as well.

http://www.konformist.com/flicks/eyeswideshut.htm

All of the above may certainly have some basis in reality. But the contention here is that if that be the case, such things are peripheral to the real dangerous message that underlies the movie and which may have caused Kubrick his life. Kubrick in this regard did a masterful job of diverting attention from the major hidden message of the movie with all the common man vs. the mysterious elite and the sex magic theme, but do we really think they would kill him over that? That’s nothing new, secret or particularly ominous considering what we know of the elite today and what they know we know of them. So if we dismiss the obvious but yet still see something very ominous in the movie then I contend that Mr. Kubrick very brazenly put his message not only underneath the theme of the movie, but had the audacity to put the essence of the message in the title itself, EYES WIDE SHUT.

As a man who obviously in his movie career predicted and foretold of the coming sub-cultural thinking patterns of American society, here in EWS he may have went too far in this case! In portending rampant crime, the space age, the American patriot, those were more or less innocent or anticipated cultural phenomena, but in Kubrick predicting or revealing the era of Eyes Wide Shut…now that may have been going too far. For what Kubrick did was to tell us that in a few years the mass media in conjunction with the elite would begin the final strangulation or usurpation of the minds and hearts of this civilization by bringing in a period that can only be described as a new dark ages. Perhaps beginning in the horrors of 911, only two years after the film appeared, where practically the entire world would be blinded by the obvious satanic fraud wrought on the populace with the ridiculous spectacle of buildings disintegrating before everybody’s eyes and being given no reasonable explanation why this happened but yet everyone through ignorance, media hype, and conditioning are told what to believe and what happened, and lo and behold, most have been hoodwinked: EYES WIDE SHUT

The era of EYES WIDE SHUT is simply put: a time when adult human beings will be told and shown blatant lies and absurdities that in ordinary times a child could see through.

The Iraq war, 911, Katrina, and many other instances that try the credulity of intelligent people.

Eyes Wide Shut

We see, but don’t see

An addendum to this original essay which I published a few years ago, is that the very movie EWS has a theme of the twin(s) TWIN TOWERS element inside it on two vital points in the film: the beginning where Cruise is sashaying along the party floor with two sensual, statuesque beauties on his arms…twins if you may, one on his right side and one on his left, though not exactly twins, of course, but very close. And then more subtly in the scene where Cruise is present in the Rainbow costume store where he is getting his cloak (to be able to attend the elite sex party) and all of a sudden again TWINS: JAPANESE TWINS, in fact, little guys, almost midget size (Kubrick couldn’t bring himself to make them tall and really give away the message, think JAPANESE TWINS (TWIN TOWERS) PNAC NEW PEARL HARBOR—911!) are in the mix having elicit sex with the proprietors daughter!

No folks, imho, this is much deeper than Hellfire club sex parties of the elite.

Think about this. All the Masonic, mystery, elite sexuality is hardly new and many books have been written by astute occultists on this very topic and in-fact much deeper indeed.

So if there were any problem in this very sinister movie it in my view had to reach to a kind of deeper dynamic depth dealing with manipulation and that greatest of aphrodisiac...Power.

I agree. The part about Kubrick deliberately creating an atmosphere of dreamlike unreality is on point, but the idea that the characters are all "in on it"--or are guiding him towards some end goal--just doesn't ring true.

Any theories on why Tom Cruise's character constantly repeats people's questions back to them? It probably doesn't have any major significance but I've always found it strange.

It's also odd to me that Kubrick cribs a line of dialogue directly from the movie True Lies. 'True Lies'... 'Eyes Wide Shut'. Hmmm.

By: Jay Dyer

Eyes Wide Shut is a film that failed to live to the expectations of many. It was supposed to be an edgy thriller that made statements about upper echelon decadence, while also utilizing the real world sex life of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman as a kind of doorway bridging the gap between reality and fantasy – something that does come up in other Kubrick films, such as 2001: A Space Odyssey. In this Kubrick film, however, we have a statement about who runs the “show.” The show is both the film itself, as well as reality, and Kubrick wants viewers to realize that reality is run by our present showmasters of the videodrome. The viewer is supposed to reflect upon the decadence of the Eastern elite establishment, but also notice that viewing the film itself is homage to present social hypocrisy, since the film is a wannabe voyeuristic step into the sex lives of others. In this regard, it functions as an initiation. None of the other analysts and commenters have really noticed this. Virtually every review I have read sees it as some elaborate “MKULTRA/Illuminati” mind control thing (as is supposedly everything on those sites), while other reviews from professors and academia see it as a social or psychological commentary.

I think it has elements of all this, but the real goal is, I believe, an initiation process. The viewer is at the film because he or she is curious about Hollywood secrets and elite lives. Think of all the silly gossip magazines we have. The “average Joe” went to see the film for a glimpse of Nicole Kidman, and Kubrick wants the viewer to see the hypocrisy in such an action, given that most people will “judge” the film’s secret society cult. Eyes Wide Shut, then, is a descriptor of the audience, as well as the characters in the film, who don’t really understand the socio-political power base that runs things. The power base is not, according to Kubrick’s film, the average politician or wealthy doctor or lawyer in New York. Indeed, this is precisely Kidman and Cruise’s characters’ status: they are unwitting inductees. Thus throughout the film, the viewers eyes are wide shut to the reality of the power structure, just as Kidman and Cruise’s characters are, until the end, when they have their eyes “opened,” as they both say at the end. Let us proceed.

The opening scene shows us Mrs. Harford (Nicole Kidman) between two pillars. This is the doorway to the initiation, in other words. The two pillars figure prominently in Freemasonry as the entranceway to the divine, as borrowed from Solomon’s temple:
http://jaysanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/ews1.jpg?w=700 (http://jaysanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/ews1.jpg)
Nicole stands between two pillars – Jachin and Boaz, setting the initiatory tone for the film.

http://jaysanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/astana16.gif?w=700 (http://jaysanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/astana16.gif)

The two pillars of Freemasonry borrowed from Solomon’s Temple, indicating the doorway to the “mysteries”

The viewer is being told from the beginning that they are to undergo an initiation into how the “mysteries” and the secret societies work, particularly from a sociological perspective. The Harfords, we discover, are having marital troubles related to sexual frustrations. It is also significant that it is Christmas time, when the initiatory procedure takes place, as a kind of anti-traditional religious/anti-Christian statement. It is also important to remember that all details in a Kubrick film are significant – the placement of everything is meaningful and deliberate.

As mentioned in the picture above, the film is full of mirrors, which are symbols of the psyche, the inner world as it were, as well as other worlds. This occurs in Alice in Wonderland, for example, and this theme, as well as the Wizard of Oz, both figure prominently, and are theosophical allegories (http://www.examiner.com/alternative-religions-in-national/the-theosophical-foundations-of-l-frank-baum-s-wizard-of-oz). Most commenters who note this point to it as some kind of MKULTRA control mechanism, but I think that is far-flung – more realistic would be the usage of such stories as allegories or metaphors for transformation – the metamorphosis of initiation into the “mysteries,” if you will. Both stories have theosophic undertones and symbolism, and thus constitute initiatory tales as well. When the Harford’s arrive at the party, we see a clear symbol of what kind of initiation they are going to undergo – a Satanic one, as we see from the inverted pentagram:

http://jaysanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/1.jpg?w=700 (http://jaysanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/1.jpg)

The doors of their perception are about to change as they enter the party marked with an inverted pentagram.

Ziegler, Harford’s friend, invites the couple to his parties frequently under the auspices of eventually getting them to participate in the orgies. As it turns out, there are two parties, and Mr. Harford’s old college buddy, Nick Nightingale, plays piano for both. Initially, both Harfords resist the temptation to sleep with other people, yet appear to have the desire given their own marital sexual problems. However, what we continue to suspect is not that the events are randomly occurring, but rather that it has been organized. It is not an accident that Bill Harford’s college buddy has shown up. Alice gets drunk and is then hit on by Sandor Szavost, a wealthy Hungarian. Szavost is likely a reference toAnton Szandor LaVey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anton_LaVey), the founder and High Priest of the Church of Satan. I think this is a symbolic reference, just to let us know the crowd they are being allowed to party with is ultimately an upper echelon Satanic cult. It is also interesting to note that the original story (“Dream Story”) is written about a couple who undergoes the experience in upper class Austria around the turn of the century, since Germany is the origin of the actual members of the Order of Illuminati. (http://www.bavarian-illuminati.info/)

Bill discovers that Ziegler is involved in some shady dealings, and apparently has some connection to drugs and beauty queens. “Mandy,” a beauty queen we later discover, is knocked out from drugs – ‘asleep’ and nude, and we will find Alice experience something similar. Mandy has almost overdosed, and Dr. Harford tells her she cannot keep doing what she is doing: we don’t know if it’s a suicide attempt or not. It is also interesting that the nude woman in the painting above Mandy is sprawled out in the same position, as if to allude to the film’s thesis of a thin borderline between fantasy or dream, and reality.

Next, we see the Harfords going about daily activities. Notice again the inverted pentagrams in the background:

More inverted pentagrams pop up.

The Harfords then have a big argument over sex and the desire to cheat, and Alice tells Bill she once wanted to have sex with a young man years ago at a hotel. Throughout their condo we see images of gateways in gardens, indicating again that this is a film about initiation. Gardens also bring to mind Eden, and the expulsion of Adam and Eve due to sin, or it could refer to their coming initiation into the “garden of the gods,” so to speak, as they are about to experience the underworld in overworld.

Garden/doorway imagery.

Bill then leaves to visit a patient who has passed away, and begins his languorous escapade for an extra-marital affair. He finds out his patient’s daughter has a crush on him, but Bill decides to remain faithful and leaves. He begins to suspect marriage is bad for others, too, as Sandor had tried to convince Alice. Bill then roams the streets looking for sexual fulfillment, passing hookers and sex shops. He then gets harassed by a group of guys who (for no reason whatsoever) call him a homosexual, showing society’s obsession with sex. Bill bumps into a pretty hooker and is invited to her apartment. He concedes, and steps into the world of the lower class, finding that sex is an “issue” everywhere. More symbolic imagery is used, as we see the prominent placement of books on sociology in the whore’s apartment. Kubrick is showing us that he is making a statement on sociology – but not the one most people think. It’s the true sociology of how the world is really run. Bill is interrupted from his cheating and decides not to. There are also numerous masks inside the hookers apartment, showing you that society wears a mask, has a fake facade of Christianity – since there are Christmas trees everywhere – yet is anything but traditionally religious. Instead, the masks show society as a fraud. But beyond that, Kubrick wants the viewer to see that those who really run things are masked – they constitute a secret team of wealthy, upper class who remain in the shadows. In fact, this is in my estimation, to be another clue that the hooker is also not a real hooker – she is part of the secret society (hence the masks in her apartment), and is being used to reel Bill in, just like Nick Nightingale. Most hookers don’t study sociology.
http://jaysanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/4.jpg?w=700 (http://jaysanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/4.jpg)
The whore is a hired member of the secret society and her apartment has masks as a clue.

Bill leaves and runs across his buddy Nick playing at another club in town. Nick tells him about the after party – the second party that Sandor had mentioned to Alice it turns out, where Nick plays piano blindfolded. Bill is intrigued, and decides to try to sneak in, after tracking down a cheesy mask and costume at the only costume store still open. The password, Nick tells Bill, is “Fidelio,” bringing to mind the theme of marital faithfulness that has been constantly in question in the film so far. Bill finds the costume shop, named The Rainbow, which is what the two women who propositioned him at the party had already mentioned – that he can find what he is after “at the end of the rainbow.” This is a Wizard of Oz reference, and the mirrors and “Alice” have already suggested Alice in Wonderland. Bill is still oblivious, however, to the synchronicity which, in my opinion, has been planned. The events are Bill’s initiation, and he is being tested to see if he will be faithful either to his wife, his ambiguous sense of moral, or, ultimately, to the cult – hence, “fidelio.” It should be noted as well that the cult is clearly Satanic, and Lucifer, the fallen angel of Scripture, who sought to dethrone God, is the light-bearer. And of course light is a prism or rainbow.
http://jaysanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/untitled.jpg?w=700 (http://jaysanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/untitled.jpg)
Bill finds what he has been led to – the end of the rainbow.

The costume shop is run by a foreigner who pimps out his daughter, we discover, and I suspect this reference to underage sex also implies connection to the Satanic cult, since my analysis is that events are all planned. Tom then takes a cab to the mansion and sneaks in using the password. There we see a kind of initiation ritual where numerous models are inducted into the cult in a kind of mock Catholic mass, with Bill noticing everyone wearing masks.

Masked balls go back to ancient times, but the past few hundred years they have come to mark the party life of certain cadres of the upper echelons of power. Renaissance Britain had many masked balls, as well as France, and according to Vatican insider and exorcist, Malachi Martin in his famous book Hostage to the Devil, such ritual orgies certainly do take place. Bill is tricked into revealing his identity and we get the impression the cult is going to kill him, until a girl steps forward to “ransom” herself for him. I suspect this is Mandy from earlier in the film, who now wants out of the secret society. Her way out will be death, as Bill will discover her name in the obituary for an overdose. Here is a great example of a modern masked ball of upper class elites (http://www.conspiracyarchive.com/Commentary/Illuminati_Eyes_Wide_Shut.htm).

Bill takes the cab home and Alice wakes up giggling and laughing, as if she had been drugged. He tells her she was dreaming, and she starts to cry. He asks what the “dream” was and she says it was “so weird” – “we were in a deserted city and our clothes were gone. We were naked and I was terrified and I felt ashamed. And I was angry because you…rushed away to find clothes for us. As soon as you were gone it was completely different. I felt wonderful. Then I was lying in a beautiful garden stretched out naked in the sunlight and a man walked out of the woods. He was the man from the hotel I told you about – the Naval officer. He stared at me and he just laughed. He just laughed at me….He was kissing me and then we were making love, then there were all these other people around us – hundreds of them everywhere – they were all fucking. And then I was fucking other men, so many I don’t know how many I was with. I knew I could see me in the arms of all these men…and I wanted to make fun of you, to laugh in your face. And so I laughed as loud as could. And that must have been when you woke me up.”

This, in my opinion, is a key clue to the fact that they are both being inducted into the cult. Either Alice has been drugged and doesn’t recall being used, thinking it was a dream, or she is a willing part of the initiation process for Bill, insofar as she has already been brought in. Either are possible. Bill is distraught and tries to track down the cult again, but is warned not to inquire any further. Bill decides he still wants to have an affair, and calls up the whore, only to discover she is nowhere to be found and that she has aids. Bill leaves and wanders the streets again, only to find that he is being followed by shady characters. He finds out in the paper that Mandy has overdosed, and he goes to the morgue to find out that she had most likely been killed. Bill goes to talk to Ziegler and Ziegler reveals that he is in the cult and was there that night when Bill snuck in. Ziegler warns him to not investigate any further, while Bill is shocked that his good friend is part of a secret society magick sex cult. It is also interesting that Ziegler’s house is decorated with paintings of what appear to be British aristocracy.

Ziegler tells him that he figured out that Nick had mentioned the cult. Ziegler tells Bill he had him followed and found out he had been seeking out why Nick had disappeared. Ziegler then says, “Bill, suppose I tell that everything that happened there, the threats, the girl’s warnings, suppose I said all of that was staged. That it was a kind of charade. That it was fake?…to scare the shit out of you to keep you quiet about where you’d been and what you’d seen.” Bill tells Ziegler he saw Mandy’s body, and Ziegler says she was the one at the party. Bill asks what kind of charade ends with someone ending up dead. In other words, we find out that it was a ritual killing. Bill comes home to find the mask that he had lost on the pillow next to Alice, who is asleep. In other words, we are to suspect either that Alice knows he was there, or she is telling him that she is involved. Bill breaks down and “tells her everything.” Bill has been initiated into top dog Satanic masonry – not just the local low-level stuff. Significantly, Cruise’s character gives the Masonic sign of Secrecy – the hand on the chest with forefinger extended up, as mentioned in of Richardson’s Monitor of Freemasonry (http://www.scribd.com/doc/26124915/Richardson-Monitor-of-Freemasonry), page 86 .

Oath of Secrecy

http://jaysanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dcodex_41.jpg?w=700 (http://jaysanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dcodex_41.jpg)
Here is Satanist Aleister Crowley giving the sign of secrecy.

Bill confesses to Alice and they both are upset. After the confession the realize they had promised to take their daughter Christmas shopping that morning. In the shopping scene we see another inverted pentagram and a purposefully placed “Magic circle” game, as well as another display labelled “magic.” The couple has now stepped into the magic circle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_circle)and their eyes are no longer shut. They have been “illuminated.” We had already seen a “magic circle” of models at the initiation ritual in the mansion. In the toy store, Bill and Alice discuss what they should do, deciding that they should be “grateful.” Alice says “we should be grateful that we have managed to survive through all our adventures, whether they were real or only a dream.” Bill asks if she is sure, and Alice says she will forgive one night and Bill says “No dream is ever just a dream.” Alice responds that they are “awake now, and hopefully, for a long time to come” “Forever,” they both say. ‘Let’s not say forever,” Alice retorts, “it frightens me. But I do love you, and you know, there is something very important we need to do as soon as possible – fuck.”
http://jaysanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/11.jpg?w=700 (http://jaysanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/11.jpg)
Alice and Bill are surrounded by pentagrams and the “Magic Circle.”

So the film is certainly about the different issues of marital problems our society creates, with its decadence and veneer of Christianity, as well as its sexual issues, but that is only half the story. The story is about the couple “waking up” and seeing the social power structure as it really is – rich elites who are into bizarre cults and weird sex magick. If you want your eyes opened, this is the whole point of the film. The power structure is about power and sex, but not just any old thing – particularly ritualized sex and gnostic, masonic, Satanic cult versions. This was the point of the Eden imagery, as well as the Alice and Wonderland and Oz references – the transition both from a fantasy reality of the dreamworld and base sexual desires, into the fake world of the film itself, as well as the transition from eyes shut, to awake. Not only was it supposed to be an initiation for the couple, the viewer is supposed to be initiated to the nature of the underworld, as well. This is what all the other reviewers have missed.

It's also odd to me that Kubrick cribs a line of dialogue directly from the movie True Lies. 'True Lies'... 'Eyes Wide Shut'. Hmmm.

I missed that. (I was coming and going throughout the video.) What's the line?

Sorry, I should have clarified; that was my observation, it wasn't in the video. The line is "Do you like the period? I adore it", which is spoken by Sandor Szavost in EWS. I have just done a bit of googling around this and found the following:

http://thestrangeblogofdrnormal.blogspot.co.uk/2009/10/james-cameron-teaches-stanley-kubrick.html

Is it just me or are there also moments in this trailer for True Lies that remind you of Eyes Wide Shut?

Some kind of Kubrick joke, maybe?

Here is another Jay Dyer interview on Eyes Wide Shut which serves to answer a lot of questions for me. Just out today.
