Israel criticized Argentina’s recognition of a Palestinian state, saying that only direct Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations can resolve the Middle East conflict.

“This is highly damaging interference” in peace efforts, Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor (http://search.bloomberg.com/search?q=Yigal%20Palmor&site=wnews&client=wnews&proxystylesheet=wnews&output=xml_no_dtd&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&filter=p&getfields=wnnis&sort=date:D:S:d1&partialfields=-wnnis:NOAVSYND&lr=-lang_ja) said today in a phone interview from Jerusalem. “It will not help at all to change the situation between Israel and the Palestinians.”

Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner (http://search.bloomberg.com/search?q=Cristina%20Fernandez%20de%20Kirchner&site=wnews&client=wnews&proxystylesheet=wnews&output=xml_no_dtd&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&filter=p&getfields=wnnis&sort=date:D:S:d1&partialfields=-wnnis:NOAVSYND&lr=-lang_ja) sent a letter to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas (http://search.bloomberg.com/search?q=Mahmoud%20Abbas&site=wnews&client=wnews&proxystylesheet=wnews&output=xml_no_dtd&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&filter=p&getfields=wnnis&sort=date:D:S:d1&partialfields=-wnnis:NOAVSYND&lr=-lang_ja) recognizing Palestine as a “free and independent state,” the Argentine Foreign Ministry said in a statement yesterday.

Argentina’s decision follows a Dec. 3 announcement by Brazil that it also recognizes a Palestinian state with its pre-1967 borders. The move doesn’t affect Argentina’s support for Israel, the statement said. Neighboring Uruguay said yesterday it will announce its recognition of a Palestinian state next year.

Well, let's face it, Israel and the US will not ever do anything to return Palestine to its pre-1967 borders.

They'll just bluster and bluster and bluster.

So perhaps a growing movement by other nations to follow suit would be their way of engaging in "direct action"?

Brazil did to the other day I think. And Uruguay.
