An Hispanic friend of mine alerted me to an article published in El Pais (for which I have yet to find the easy way to translate in its entirety): http://www.elpais.com/articulo/cultura/Hiroshima/66/anos/censura/elpepicul/20110607elpepicul_2/Tes

I also googled to see if there were translations or other related articles and came up only with this from Financial Times:

Elliott Erwitt: Personal Best/Hiroshima: Ground Zero 1945, International Center of Photography, New York

The photos and their interesting provenance are described in the articles.

The links will suffice as a thread starter. Administrators may move it to another more-appropriate thread. Additional articles, information and insights are welcome, as always.

Should this be moved to the arts section?
