Phil Ochs - Dealey Plaza Dupe - Lauren Johnson - 14-05-2013

Quote: Baez is a completely different heart and mind. Much more the real thing.

I agree AND she is still alive. She is a survivor. She is not a martyr. IMO.

Phil Ochs - Dealey Plaza Dupe - Albert Doyle - 14-05-2013

There is evidence for Ochs' participation in government infiltration out of his Ohio college. This forces the question how long did his participation in those programs last into his career? Was his guilt over his membership in those programs and what they did (including the Kennedys) part of what led to his death?

A search on DPF for Dave McGowan turns up whole loads of connections to MK/ULTRA, Project Chaos, and so on. Here is a real winner: https://deeppoliticsforum.com/forums/showthread.php?698-Naval-Intelligence-MKUltra-and-the-Hippie-Movement&highlight=dave+mcgowan

Yes, love the Laurel Canyon series.

Phil Ochs - Dealey Plaza Dupe - Lauren Johnson - 20-05-2013

Their duet begins at about the three minute mark:

Looks like a men's prison? "I Shall be Released" Some of them anyway. A captive audience but a very appreciative one by the reception. Great songs and beautiful singers. Big hearts.

Lauren Johnson Wrote:Joan Baez and her sister Mimi Farina

Their duet begins at about the three minute mark:

Lauren - thank you.

Joan and Mimi - the Counterculture at its purest, and most complex.

The Counterculture in the shadow of the Shadow.

On a somewhat related note, there was recently a discussion about Richard Farina, who was married to Joan's sister Mimi, on a Fortean group mailing list I subscribe to. One of the people on the list had just read my novel The Unreals, and he said it reminded him of Farina's novel Been Down So Long It Looks Like Uo To Me. I've never read Farina's book, but am somewhat familiar with his music, and was flattered.

Another person on the mailing list claimed to have a friend who went to high school with Mimi, who showed him an old banjo he'd bought at a garage sale from her, which had belonged to Richard Farina. The friend sold him the banjo, although he remained skeptical of its history.

I've enjoyed some email exchanges with Jim Glover regarding his history with Phil Ochs, and Ochs' intelligence connections. It's all pretty confusing to me, but it's fascinating to picture Phil Ochs somewhere in Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1963.

And yes, the Laurel Canyon series by Dave McGowan is essential reading.

That is some compliment Don. I would be flattered as well.
