Cringe worthy indeed, Mr. Coleman. Amazing what some of these networks will do to enhance a despicable lie about an innocent man.

Suffice it to say, I will bet my last dollar none of the networks will ever create a new tv series entitled "Operation Northwoods Redux", how a school teacher goes back in time to help sway JFK to give into the less than honest Cold War warriors so they would spar his life in exchange for a "legitimate" reason to invade Cuba.

I absolutely admire Tom Hanks as an actor, equal sentiments towards Mr. King for his craft as well, but man do I wish they felt the same way about the JFK assassination as Bruce Willis and Tommy Lee Jones...

Good for Bruce Willis; hadn't read that quote before. I've been disappointed in Stephen King since he wrote that book, because I think he is an intelligent and insightful writer about the human condition, though he hides it behind "horror stories" so that a lot of "serious critics" don't give him a chance.

As for Tom Hanks, he is a very good actor, but in the last 20 years or so he's participated in a lot of myth-making about American history. His perspective might be called "liberal nationalism," much like Chris Matthews.

I've read the book, and the book is less about the JFK event itself than the protagonist's attempts to save the life of the 1960's woman he by chance met and fell in love with (while he was actively trying to save JFK). Of course, in true Steven King style, the story veers off into "Lala Land" concerning the nature of time and the universe and how the protagonist comes dangerously close to destroying the spacetime fabric of the universe or something. (I quit paying attention towards the end.) If you imagine a cross between "Langoliers" and "Back to the Future" and "JFK" you'll get the gist.

You all should know however, that the film was made in Dallas (partly) and that the 6th Floor Museum was called in to consult for the director.
