Drew, what Williams thinks is that the bomb was detonated by the second plane.
If the plane had just shot at the DC6, there likely would not have been an explosion in the sky.
It was the combination of the highly sophisticated communications plane on the ground and the one in the air that completed the plot.

I seem to recall watching an "air crash investigation" type program on this case, done by either Discovery or Nat Geo. They came to the firm conclusion that any bullet wounds were due to "cook-off" and determined pilot error as the cause.
Thus putting the programme in the same category as "Inside the Target Car" and other similar bs.

You got that right Martin.
Really, Williams' book is state of the art on the Hammarskjold case. Lisa Pease did a nice article for Probe many years ago also.
But Wiliams got some documents from the archives of the British governor of Rhodesia, Welensky, which no one had before.
How anyone can look at the photos of the crash site in that book and say that was due to pilot error, escapes me.
And there is simply no explanation for the ace of spades being in the ruffle of Hammarskjold's tie. I have seen no one give any explanation of that. At all.

The explanation reminds me of a Peter Dale Scott comment (from one of his poems, funnily enough) when a congressional staffer angrily took Scott aside after PDS had gone a bit too far trying to help some sham investigation or another: "There are some things you don't write down in Washington."
We all know the Ace of Spades was either a message of warning to someone, or a bit of smug spookcraft done to amuse the rest of the gang, or possibly both. Neither can be written about by the mainstream media though, so it's another one of those facts that never happened.
Anytime anyone mentions the Hammarskjold crash anywhere, they should point out the Ace of Spades being stuffed in Dag's clothing after the event right up front. It puts the whole crash in perspective.
How many world leaders did Dulles help assassinate, and how many major peace overtures did he squash? I've lost count.
