Google Shuts Down ActivistPost.com

September 24th, 2011Via: Before It's News:
At mid-day on Friday, September 23, 2011, the popular alternative news blog, ActivistPost.com, was taken offline. Activist Post receives over one million views per month and has been hosted by Google's Blogger since its founding in June 2010.
"We remain puzzled as to why Activist Post was erased completely by Google," said chief editor and co-founder Michael Edwards. "When we tried to load our back-up file into our secondary Blogger account, that was blocked as well," he added.
It remains unclear whether Google has acted to censor ActivistPost.com for their controversial reporting. Google is becoming somewhat notorious for clamping down on truth and liberty activists, of which Activist Post is known for.
"Clearly, this is a huge set back for us and the work we do," said co-founder Eric Blair. "Our entire crew is working on resolving the issue and restoring the website. We certainly look forward to an explanation from Google."
Activist Post will file an appeal with Google to restore the site in full, and asks their loyal supporters to make their voices heard as well. However, they also are seeking other hosting services to avoid these types of censorship issues in the future.

Unfortunately Google have covered themselves legally by having a clause n their Terms and Agreements that all bloggers must comply with. Specifically:
Quote:Google also reserves the right to modify, suspend or discontinue the Service with or without notice at any time and without any liability to you.

Personally I would never use it for anything important perhaps as a copy place.

Ominous, but not surprising. I'd expect a whole lot more of this sort of thing in the coming years. In fact, I think those who post politically progressive blogs on 'big-name' sites [most blogs] best make backups on their own computer daily and have alternative servers on which to host it - best to start with those alternative [small, private, progressive] servers to begin with...... You can still be attacked, but at least your own server likely won't be the cause.

Where is the safest place to put such things that involve criticism of power, free speech, and the like?

Fear of Repression Spurs Scholars and Activists to Build Alternate Internets

September 25th, 2011This is great, but don't forget the context:
U.S. Has Secret Tools to Force Internet on Dictators
U.S. Underwrites Internet Detour Around Censors
The Sock Puppet Industrial Complex: U.S. Trains Activists' to Evade Security Forces
Think outside the box, by all means. Just don't be surprised when you find another box.
Via: Chronicle of Higher Education:
Computer networks proved their organizing power during the recent uprisings in the Middle East, in which Facebook pages amplified street protests that toppled dictators. But those same networks showed their weaknesses as well, such as when the Egyptian government walled off most of its citizens from the Internet in an attempt to silence protesters.
That has led scholars and activists increasingly to consider the Internet's wiring as a disputed political frontier.
For example, one weekend each month, a small group of computer programmers gathers at a residence here to build a homemade Internetnamed Project Byzantiumthat could go online if parts of the current global Internet becomes blocked by a repressive government.
Using an approach called a "mesh network," the system would set up an informal wireless network connecting users with other nearby computers, which in turn would pass along the signals. The mesh network could tie back into the Internet if one of the users found a way to plug into an unblocked route. The developers recently tested an early version of their software at George Washington University (though without the official involvement of campus officials).
The leader of the effort, who goes by the alias TheDoctor but who would not give his name, out of concern that his employer would object to the project, says he fears that some day repressive measures could be put into place in the United States.
He is not the only one with such apprehensions. Next month The*Doctor will join hundreds of like-minded high-tech activists and entrepreneurs in New York at an unusual conference called the Contact Summit. One of the participants is Eben Moglen, a professor at Columbia Law School who has built an encryption device and worries about a recent attempt by Wisconsin politicians to search a professor's e-mail. The summit's goal is not just to talk about the projects, but also to connect with potential financial backers, recruit programmers, and brainstorm approaches to building parallel Internets and social networks.
The meeting is a sign of the growing momentum of what is called the "free-network movement," whose leaders are pushing to rewire online networks to make it harder for a government or corporation to exert what some worry is undue control or surveillance. Another key concern is that the Internet has not lived up to its social potential to connect people, and instead has become overrun by marketing and promotion efforts by large corporations.
At the heart of the movement is the idea that seemingly mundane technical specifications of Internet routers and social-networking software platforms have powerful political implications. In virtual realms, programmers essentially set the laws of physics, or at least the rules of interaction, for their cyberspaces. If it sometimes seems that media pundits treat Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg or Apple's Steve Jobs as gods, that's because in a sense they aresitting on Mount Olympus with the power to hurl digital thunderbolts with a worldwide impact on people.
Instead of just complaining, many of those heading to New York next month believe they can build alternatives that reduce the power of those virtual deities and give more control to mere mortals.

Nothing like having your own server but there must be back ups as well. I suggest at least 3 in various countries. One of these back ups could be google but I wouldn't suggest using all the other big ones in the cloud. Better to use the smaller providers who want your business and have some sort of ethos about business. They are out there.

Let the speculation begin....

"As most of you know by now, our original site was taken offline by Google this past Friday at around 12:30 pm. Since then we have been flooded with positive support, as well as many offers for solutions.

We are happy to report that our site was just restored less than 1 hour ago. The official explanation from Blogger is as follows:

I'm an engineer on blogger. I'd like to apologise on behalf of the team for the removal of activistpost.com. The removal was caused by an automated process, and we restored the blog as soon as the issue was brought to our attention.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and activism in contacting Google and sharing our situation far and wide.

Despite this restoration, we already have moved forward with preparation for an upgraded design, as well as precautions to be sure this does not happen again. We are returning with even more passion and determination thanks to you. We certainly welcome your input as to what changes you would like to see, and we ask that you bear with us while we go through our restructuring over the coming days and weeks.

We apologize for this abbreviated newsletter that features our personal situation. We can't wait to get back on track covering and analyzing the latest important news and issues. Peace, Love and Liberty will Prevail!

Corporate interests have been co-opted by the global elites and their secret societies. Bilderberg 2011 saw the coming together of Google, Facebook, LinkedIn and Amazon, among others. It appears that one of my newest favorite websites, Activist Post (http://www.activistpost.com) has been taken down by its host, Blogger.com. Google Takes Down Activist Post?
Why this has occurred is currently unknown. If Google is honest about the matter, then all will be well, and nothing but time will have been lost; Google's data retention policy obviously forbids anything to ever be truly lost. Considering the wide range of subjects covered by Activist Post, and their uncensored and honest approach, it would not be surprising to learn that Google has done this intentionally. At this point however, it remains speculation. (read more)

GOOD NEWS!
Maui Clean Sky Ordinance introduced, receiving support. From The Intel Hub: I am currently on Maui working with a team in writing and implementing The Clean Sky Ordinance which is a county ordinance that will ban chemtrail/geoengineering programs above and around the county of Maui. While we know that these programs have been in full-scale deployment for several years, The Clean Sky Ordinance is a preemptive act based on geoengineering plans and proposals to spray 10 to 20 million tons of toxic aluminum oxide and other particulates in the the atmosphere for the stated goal of cooling the planet. We not only have public support, but also support from public officials including a council member who is sponsoring the ordinance. Please reply to this e-mail if interested in scheduling an interview. Thanks again for your support in exposing these crimes against nature and humanity. This is a video that explains the birth of The Clean Sky Ordinance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-0XEQP3igk

ACTION ITEM
Support Independent News. Clearly, an intense crackdown has begun on alternative news, and our recent problems are becoming more and more common. We have learned a lot through our experience with the bureaucracy and impersonal nature inherent in big corporations, as well as the potential censorship. We have received invaluable information from other leaders in alternative news about how to better protect ourselves in the future. We endeavor to take their suggestions. We in the alternative media need to separate ourselves and form new channels of freedom where we can rely upon the amazing cooperation within alternative media. We already have seen Infowars re-launch Prison Planet TV in a major way, seeking primarily to be free of the YouTube censorship they have encountered. Other alternative news sites have implemented redundant systems and beefed-up security to their platforms. Another major development in alternative news this week is the launch by Mike Adams of AlternativeNews.com. This is a Drudge Report-style site that is a wonderful repository of the best alternative news links from around the web. We are honored to be featured so prominently there, and look forward to contributing even more now that we are back online. In the meantime, please lend support to all of the great alternative news sites out there, especially the leaders in the field, as they offer invaluable protection from the lords of censorship attempting to usurp the free flow of information.

OUR MISSION AND HOW YOU CAN BECOME ACTIVE
We want to help contribute to the mass awakening that is taking place. The mainstream media is part of a system that aims to keep people ignorant and unquestioning. It is essential that information continues to flow from the alternative media, so that opposing viewpoints can be heard. The global movement toward Internet censorship is troubling. We are optimistic, though, because history shows that all attempts to oppress free humanity are doomed to failure. However, we can no longer remain passive; the period of cold, creeping tyranny that legislates its way into power is over. When oppression reaches this "hot" stage, we need activists. The next period will be defined by how well we are able to overcome our conditioning and resist what we know in our hearts is the wrong course. You can become active through education, spreading the word, but, most importantly, practice what you preach. Tyranny is no match for freedom.

Liberty, Love, and Peace will Prevail!

Please support our work and site re-launch:"

I think it fair that it be "my service", i.e., I brought the thing hear, added a few 'straws' to the thread and now receive the subscription-via-email "post" as I posted above...

What gives?

Is this a hoax? A marketing ploy? A "please read us, only we tell the truth" attempt at building a data-base?

I will yell you my gut reaction...:

The "engineer" at Google was indeed conducting a data base, and this seems like a slightly-new (or better yet, recently-ironed old) wrinkle on a "honeypot en masse".

By putting 2+2 together (is my math here good, folks?) and seeing nearly-simultaenous articles on other matters "cyber" [all also posted here] such as the information that the Federal Reserve system is watching us online and the other very-obviously-going-on attempts at perception cluttering (they call it "management"), I think the "engineer" brought down a visible web site in seemingly benign fashion as a warning shot (along with Obamian criticsms of journalists) that there is a functional system in place that can -- at will -- shut down [or worse] one or more links, web sites, means of communication, and receiving networks.

Or perhaps I've been looking at things too long and need to see someone about my vision.
