Mockingbird sub-Project named Agape?
#1
"The Agency over the past several decades, has done a large amount of work at creating, fostering, and adding to a lot of selected conspiracy theories with the object of what it terms 'off-balancing' the public's mind set toward these theories.... Put succinctly, it's in the Agency's best interest to have as many so-called kooks as possible out there raising dust and appearing as deranged or semi-sane as possible. That so many intelligent and sincere theorists have been pigeonholed as 'fruit loops' is an intended byproduct of [Project] Agape. The more the general public discounts serious speculation and fact finding on certain matters the better off the intelligence community is and will remain."

This was told to author H.P. Albarelli Jr. by a CIA official in reference to a conversation on MK/ULTRA [and related]. I searched on the internet and could find no mention of a Project Agape - nor have I ever heard of it before. The description of the 'Project' is nothing new to me and most here on this Forum. We generally know it under the rubric of Mockingbird [and restated by Sunnstein in slightly different form from the White House]. It is possible the official was making up the name. Has anyone else heard of this 'Agape'?

No. It is new to me. I have heard of a Project Agape which was some sort of internet thing to spread altruistic actions far and wide. Doesn't sound like the CIA to me.... So must be another one.

We should remember that there are two definitions and pronunciations of the world spelled a-g-a-p-e:

a·gape 1 (-gp, -gp)
adv. & adj.
1. In a state of wonder or amazement, as with the mouth wide open.
2. Wide open.
a·ga·pe 2 (ä-gäp, äg-p)

AND

n.
1. Christianity Love as revealed in Jesus, seen as spiritual and selfless and a model for humanity.
2. Love that is spiritual, not sexual, in its nature.
3. Christianity In the early Christian Church, the love feast accompanied by Eucharistic celebration.
[Greek agap, love.]

Cute little doppelganger variation, wouldn't you say?

I might add that the usurpation by managers of operations driven by evil intent of words, terms, or concepts reflecting high moral and/or spiritual ideals should come as small surprise to us.

I've seen it elsewhere as Project Apate.

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.11...0/abstract

Abstract

This investigation examined the boundaries of inoculation theory by examining how inoculation can be applied to conspiracy theory propaganda as well as inoculation itself (called metainoculation). A 3-phase experiment with 312 participants compared 3 main groups: no-treatment control, inoculation, and metainoculation. Research questions explored how inoculation and metainoculation effects differ based on the argument structure of inoculation messages (fact- vs. logic-based). The attack message was a 40-minute chapter from the 9/11 Truth conspiracy theory film, Loose Change: Final Cut. The results indicated that both the inoculation treatments induced more resistance than the control message, with the fact-based treatment being the most effective. The results also revealed that metainoculation treatments reduced the efficacy of the inoculation treatments.

Well well well - that's a January 2013 abstract in a new "scientific journal":

Quote:Human Communication Research
Editor: John Courtright

Human Communication Research concentrates on presenting empirical work in any area of human communication. The special brief of the journal is to advance understanding of human symbolic processes, so there is a strong emphasis on theory-driven research, the development of new theoretical models in communication, and the development of innovative methods for observing and measuring communication behavior. The journal has a broad social science focus, so it should appeal to scholars in communication from psychology, sociology, linguistics, and anthropology, as well as areas of communication science.

Sounds like the kind of pseudo academic psyop that Cass Sunstein would sponsor.

I just lurved this:

This investigation examined the boundaries of inoculation theory by examining how inoculation can be applied to conspiracy theory propaganda as well as inoculation itself (called metainoculation).

Soon, I guess anyone signing up for DPF will need to get inoculated first.

Maybe they'll inject a unique pet tracking microchip under our skin.

Sorry, but I have to SHOUT THIS SUNSTEINIAN PSYOP SHIT OUT LOUD:

by examining how inoculation can be applied to conspiracy theory propaganda as well as inoculation itself (called metainoculation)

To use the English vernacular, if these psyop wankers could write and think I might be worried....

But on reflection - nah, they're just wankers.

Speaking of wankers I have to wonder if the Incredible Randi is on their advisory committee.

inoculation theory

A theory of resistance to persuasion according to which most ordinary attitudes and beliefs are more or less resistant to change through having been exposed to repeated mild attacks. The theory predicts that cultural truisms that most people have never heard being questioned, such as It is a good idea to brush your teeth three times a day if possible, should be more vulnerable to persuasion, and this counter-intuitive prediction has been confirmed by experiments. The theory is based on the biological analogy of an organism that has been raised in a sterile, germ-free environment and that appears robust and healthy but is in reality vulnerable to infection, because it has not had the opportunity to develop defensive antibodies. Cultural truisms have also never been attacked, and defensive arguments have therefore never been developed, but their resistance to persuasion can be markedly increased by a process of inoculation, which involves exposing the recipients to relatively weak arguments against the truisms together with rebuttals that the recipients are either presented with or are required to think up for themselves. When the cultural truisms are later exposed to strong persuasive attacks, they turn out to be much more resistant to persuasion, even when the arguments used in the attacking messages are different from those presented in the inoculation procedure. The theory was formulated in 1964 by the US psychologist William J(ames) McGuire (19252007). See also attitude change. [From Latin inoculare, inoculatum to implant, from in into+oculus an eye or a bud]

I just did a little searching and there is a rather frighteningly large body of 'research' and 'literature' on this subject.....sort of a scientific [sic] approach to 1984ism. Sunstein has a lead chapter in one of the books out on this matter. I located it as a pdf and present it here. Read at your own neuronal risk, but it is best to know what the enemy is thinking! He has a co-author in this 30 page piece. Parts of this are definitely in the training of internet trolls and political forum stooges, et al. I just loooove his statement in the essay, "Our focus throughout is on false conspiracy theories, not true ones."

Greek Name Transliteration Latin Spelling Translation
Απατη Apatê Fraus Deceit, Deception, Fraud, Guile (apatê)

APATE was the spirit (daimona) of deceit, guile, fraud and deception. Her male counterpart was Dolos the daimon of trickery and wiles. She was also a companion of the Pseudologoi (Lies). Her opposite number was Aletheia the spirit of truth.
