"Overwhelming" Evidence of Plot to Assassinate Venezuela's Maduro

July 27, 2013 "Information Clearing House - Head of Venezuela's National Assembly Diosdado Cabello has stated that he will make public "hard evidence of assassination attempts" targeting himself and President Nicolas Maduro "in due course".

"We know who they are, what they are, what they want, and we will find them," Cabello told legislators during a special session of the assembly in Zulia state on Wednesday.

The alleged plot was first revealed by Maduro during a street government in Monagas state the day before, when he said that "fascist" groups operating in Venezuela "have crazy plans".

"I have appointed Diosdado Cabello as political head of the PSUV to find the truth of how they have prepared for attacks against me for months," Maduro said.

Maduro stated that if he or Cabello were targeted for assassination, "the wrath of god and the people would be unstoppable" adding that the political opposition would be crippled.

"I'm not here to be afraid of anything or anyone," he said.

However, yesterday opposition leader Henrique Capriles stated on his internet show at Capriles.tv that "the worst thing that can happen to Venezuela is a coup".

"Here the majority of Venezuelans want a peaceful and democratic change," he stated, before accusing the government of "fascism". He also accused Venezuelan authorities of "retaliating" against the Chilean airline LAN. During his recent visit to Chile and Peru, Capriles reportedly flew with the airline.

The Maduro government has been critical of Capriles' regular international trips. Foreign minister Elias Jaua recently accused Capriles of neglecting his governorship of Miranda state.

Nonetheless, today during a press conference Capriles indicated that he will spend more time abroad denouncing "the reality of the country". He hinted that his next destinations could include Brazil, Bolivia and Ecuador.

During the conference, Capriles reiterated claims that the government committed electoral fraud in April, before urging supporters to vote in December's municipal elections.

This week, Capriles has also stated that the MUD will "continue to organise society in neighbourhoods, towns and cities, to consolidate an overwhelming majority in the December elections".

On the other hand, the head of Voluntad Popular (Popular Will) Leopoldo Lopez stated that "we are not going to wait six years to be given change".

"There cannot be peace... when there is injustice," Lopez stated, before urging supporters to restart street protests against the government. VP is part of the MUD coalition. Supporters of the opposition held protests across the country following the 14 April elections, after Capriles disputed the results. In some parts of the country, authorities reported that opposition protests turned violent. In the days that followed the election, Venezuelanalysis observed some opposition protesters and pro-government counter-protesters clash in the streets of Merida.

In April, Venezuela's attorney general Luisa Ortega Díaz, stated that the violence claimed nine lives and dozens of injuries nationwide. Since then, the Maduro administration has accused Capriles of inciting the violence.

"We cannot turn the page of 14A [the 14 April presidential elections] when we said that the elections were stolen. This government does not enjoy majority support of Venezuelans," Lopez insisted this week.

The latest poll from private firm Hinterlaces indicates that support for the opposition has fallen to 31%, while the PSUV now has the backing of 48% of the population. The results of another poll by International Consulting Services (ICS) earlier this month indicated that 55.9% of Venezuelans approve of Maduro's presidency.

Cabello responded to Lopez's statements on Wednesday, urging the opposition to not provoke violence.

UPDATE: In a statement aired by state broadcaster VTV on Thursday, Cabello alleged that some members of the opposition were collaborating with right-wing Venezuelans living in the US. "We want peace for this country. The only guarantee of peace we have now is the Chavista Revolution," he stated.

Venezuelan officials warned of an alleged plot to assassinate the country's President and launch a paramilitary invasion of the country. A former CIA agent, Cuban exiles living in the US and Latin American leaders were fingered in the conspiracy
President Nicolas Maduro, who succeeded Hugo Chavez, first alleged that his enemies want him dead while on the campaign trail in April.
The suspected plot to overthrow the government in Caracas was allegedly funded by Cuban exiles living in Miami, the head of the Venezuela's parliament Diosdado Cabello told legislators on Wednesday. They raised some $2.5 million and recruited about 400 mercenaries, who would enter Venezuela's Zulia state from Columbia as part of the plan.
He pointed to former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe and former CIA agent Luis Posada Carriles, who lives in the US, as those among the organizers of the plot. Venezuela and Cuba want Carriles for carrying out anti-communist terrorist attacks, including the 1976 bombing of a Cuban airliner that killed 73 people and the bombing of several hotels in Cuba in 1997, in which one tourist died.
Venezuelan Interior Minister Miguel Rodriguez Torres gave additional information on the alleged plot to TeleSUR television. He claimed the plan of the so-called Operation Baby was to have a sniper kill Maduro on July 24. The assassination would be a signal for militant attacks on military and political targets in the country, he said.
He further accused Venezuelan right-wing forces, former Honduran President Roberto Micheletti and a Miami-based real estate businessman Eduardo Macaya of involvement in the alleged conspiracy.
Maduro and his allies earlier highlighted mercenaries in El Salvador and Columbia as potential threats and named Uribe and former US diplomats Roger Noriega and Otto Reich as individuals hatching plots against Venezuela.

Carriles who has been proven of the murder of many innocents and suspected of the murder of many others is a free man - immune [thanks to Criminals in HIGH places in the US Govt.]; while, for example, Bradley Manning who brought to World attention the wanton murder of innocent non-combatants in Iraq, including journalists, persons trying to aid already wounded and children is to spend the rest of his life in prison and just barely missed being executed....and they say we have a JUSTICE system.....maybe they call it that...but the Nazis had one too.....sadly, they draw closer and closer together, in my mind and 'eye'. [Nothing is about Law; less about Justice - its all Politics, and what is convenient to maintain power and money]. Carriles belongs in prison for life. Venezuelan Government Exposes Plot to Assassinate President Maduro, Opposition Rejects Charges

San Francisco, May 30th 2014. (venezuelanalysis.com)- On Wednesday, Venezuelan authorities publicized correspondences between opposition leaders and U.S. diplomats which, they say, constitute a plan to assassinate president Nicolas Maduro and overthrow his administration.

Jorge Rodriguez, mayor of Libertador municipality and leader of the governing political party, presented data collected by Venezuelan intelligence agencies which point to opposition figure Maria Corina Machado as the principle strategist of the proposed "annihilation" of Maduro.

"I believe the time has come to join forces, make the necessary calls, and obtain the financing to annihilate Maduro… and the rest will come falling down," read one of Machado's emails intercepted by government security agencies.

Opposition spokespeople have alternately challenged the authenticity of the emails and casted doubt that their content serves as evidence of a fully formed plot.

Machado was already facing charges for incitement and crimes against the homeland earlier this year, and was linked to the failed 2002 coup d'état against Hugo Chavez.

Since February, Machado has called for Maduro's immediate ouster in public rallies, and repeatedly encouraged the "street action" that led to violent street blockades in many Venezuelan cities. The violent unrest resulted in the deaths of 42 people. The victims include pro and anti government demonstrators, nonpartisan citizens, and numerous security personnel, while the destruction of universities, transit and other public property als occured.

In March, Machado began to petition for foreign intervention against Venezuela in numerous press conferences from Washington to Brasilia. She has asked for similar interference by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the European Union, on the grounds that the Maduro government is committing "severe crimes against humanity" regarding its treatment of anti-government protestors.

In a May 23rd email, Machado reportedly complained that the international strategy was not working, because it was "taking too long." The email read; "I'm fed up with waiting. We have to take out this trash- starting with the one heading it and by taking advantage of the world situation with Ukraine and Thailand as soon as possible."

The message was sent to former Venezuelan diplomat Diego Arria, once a member of the pro-U.S. conservative government that preceded Hugo Chavez, known as the Fourth Republic.

In correspondence with Gustavo Tarre Briceño, former leader of the right-wing Social Christian Party (COPEI), Machado cited the US ambassador to Colombia as an ally.

"[Ambassador] Kevin Whitaker has already reconfirmed his support and he pointed out the new steps." When it comes to "breaking international security," she said "We have a bigger checkbook than the government … thanks to their giving away Venezuelan peoples' money like presents."

Mayor Rodriguez publicly called upon the U.S. government to clarify whether it was aware of Whitaker's contacts or if the official encouraged Machado of his own accord.

In the same email Machado touted her own importance by claiming that hardline opposition ally, the imprisoned Leopoldo Lopez, was "isolated and humiliated." Other politicians, she said, are just sending formal statements and tweets, while she is "exposing herself" and intends to "struggle until the end."

She said her plans for struggle rely on continued street action, and "ungovernable activist action in the subway, Metrobus, Bolivarian high schools, public universities, and everywhere... We will invade everywhere with women expressing despair at living in a country with no freedom."

Mayor Rodriguez released additional emails that pointed to the involvement of a number of other people in the plot. They include former US ambassador in Venezuela, William Brownfield, former exterior director of PDVSA Pedro Mario Burelli (now based in Washington), house deputy and ex-governor of Carabobo state Henrique Salas Romer, and numerous self-exiled Venezuelan businessmen, some of whom left to avoid arrest for fraud charges, or arrest for previous coup attempts, such as Eligio Cedeño and Robert Alonso.

Reactions & Sanctions

At first, Machado denied she wrote the emails. Still maintaining that position, she later pressed charges against the government for unlawful spying, slander, violation of civil liberties and for the framing her for treason.

National public defender Luisa Ortega Diaz insisted yesterday that the files were obtained by legal means. "The Bolivarian Intelligence Service was commissioned to intercept or record private communications… by a court order," Diaz explained.

Although Venezuelan law requires that no information procured by security agencies may be released to the general public, Ortega said the data in question is a matter of national security, and therefore must be treated differently.

"We cannot continue unaware of an attempt on the stability and peace of this country," Diaz said.

Ramon Aveledo, spokesperson for opposition alliance, Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), challenged the validity of the accusations, asking "How are we to know if these emails are true or false?"

"Although yesterday's announcement was more of a farce than an operetta, the theatrical setting was equally appropriate for such a spectacle," said Aveledo, referring to Rodriguez's announcement, which took place in Caracas' National Theater.

Meanwhile Maduro extended his gratitude to the "Twenty (pro-government) governors and 255 mayors who today formally rejected the plan for my assassination."

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elias Jaua noted the parallels between the crisis in Ukraine and the protests and Venezuela, "The United States' plan to isolate and manipulate Russia… and Venezuela will not succeed, given that the US government no longer has the capacity to determine the fate of the majority of the world's countries."

Jaua took a similar stance in response to the sanctions approved by the United States Senate on Wednesday.

"They are completely illegal," he emphasized yesterday to reporters, while on a diplomatic visit to Moscow. "There is nothing in international law that authorizes the US government and its legislature to employ unilateral sanctions, the only body authorized to so is the Security Council of the United Nations."

However, the significance of the measures, which include frozen assets and US travel bans for select Venezuelans, are more symbolic than anything else, said Jaua. "These are psychological messages they [the US government] try to send to countries that have taken a path toward independence, toward sovereignty, toward self-determination."

He recalled the vision of international democracy that inspired late Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez, entailing; "a balanced world, with many poles of power, so that nobody can exercise imperial hegemony over another, as the United States still believes it employs."

The Attorney General of the Republic, Luisa Ortega Diaz said the public prosecutor ordered the arrest of Pedro Burelli, Diego Arria and Ricardo Koesling not have been submitted to the Prosecution, being allegedly involved in an alleged plot to assassinate the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro.
The official asked Interpol to capture. The three currently being expressed abroad.
"We have evidence that these people had plans to take the life of the President and senior government officials," Ortega said during an interview on the state television channel, Venezolana de Television.
He confirmed that the former deputy Maria Corina Machado must be presented Monday at the courthouse for being allegedly involved in the prosecution.
He also announced that the student leader Gabriela Arellano shall SEBIN convalesce before June 17 as one of the alleged architects of the student protests in the country.
