Wonderful new book: Betting on the Africans
#11
Impressive ( the air lift matter is completely new to me) and - not that new.

There are circa 50 pages about Kennedy and Africa (and foreign aid in general), in Arthur Schlesingers 1965(sic) book A THOUSAND DAYS.

I think it is the earliest account of that topic. And it is from a Kennedy aid.

I will read "Betting on the Africans" and "Ordeal in Africa", because it obviously shows how with Kennedys head blown off, African hopes where blown off too, and how the masters of the cold war drove that continent into chaos, after there bloody deed in Dallas...all the way down from Patrice Lumumba to Idi Amin...

(Compared to Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon where Cynics, regarding the black continent...)

KK

BTW: Dean Acheson is talking about the Portugal-Angola matter here.

His foreign policy meant a huge loss of business and profits.
I have read the two Gibson books. If you add to that the two books about Africa and "thy will be done"
you get a clearer picture. For most fo us who cannot be at Duquesne, please print your speech at ctka and/or DPF after it's over.

No - it meant a redistribution of profit...and a new proliferation of business...at the cost of the military industrial complex...which down to the present day is the ulcer of this world...

Yes, a redistribution.

I forgot about Thy Will be Done. What a good book that is.

The chapter Camelot vs Pocantico was just wonderful showing how much the CIA hated Kennedy.

Anyway, it looks like my review helped. I really boosted the sales of this book.

And that is good.
