The Truth about the WC at Last
#1
Over at EF, Pat Speer just posted some segments from Howard Willens' diary of his service on the WC. These deal with the Secret Service and are interesting on their own. AMong other things, the WC worked at covering up all the important info about their horrific failure.

I just talked about Willens on Len's show tonight. Just how bad he was and how he was essentially a bag man for Katzenbach and made sure that the Commission was made up mostly of business lawyers not criminal lawyers, and also once the Senior Counsel started leaving, he brought in freshly minted law school graduates to finish the biographies of RUby and Oswald.

But in this diary entry, Willens slips up and reveal something I have always believed, but which he now certifies as a guy on the administrative stuff with a close up view of the workings of the WC.

Late in the day I reviewed with Mr. Rankin the current
status of the work of the Commission and he reported to me the result
of the Commission meeting that day. He said that there was a split on the
Commission as to the question of giving to the FBI the responsibility
for the protection of the President. Apparently at least Congressman
Ford and Mr. Dulles felt that PRS is not adequate to do the job. The
two remaining members of the Commission, The Chief Justice and
Mr. McCloy disagreed on this issue. According to Mr. Rankin,
Mr. McCloy was drafting some language which he hoped would
bridge the gap and which he would bring to the next Commission
meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, the 26th.

That bolded part is devastating. Note, after naming Ford and Dulles, he says "The two remaining members of the Commission, the Chief Justice and Mr. McCloy..."

In other words, as far as he was concerned, Russell, Boggs and Cooper weren't really on the Commission.

Except that they were. But to Willens ,who was an administrator, and Katzenbach's appendage, they really did not exist.

This is what I have always thought to be the case: the Wall Street/Washington group, I call it the Troika--Dulles, Ford, and McCloy-- essentially ran things. Warren was neutered early on by the combination of LBJ intimidating him, and the Troika vetoing his first choice for Chief Counsel,Olney. But the Troika needed to run things by the figurehead Warren, before doing what they wished.

Hard to believe Willens does not know the significance of this. But thanks Howard for letting the cat out of the bag. See, this is why those three kept on defending the WR until they died. While first Russell, in 1968, and then Cooper and Boggs a bit later, denounced it. If you recall, Boggs was really vituperative and said Hoover lied his eyes out to the Commission about everything. Which, of course, he did.

Well, we now, 50 years later, have certification from the horse's mouth about the WC being a mirage of seven men. It was really three, and they were three of the worst characters in American history at that time. And they proved it further by what they did here.

Well spotted Jim! I do wish people would question the dynamics of the WC more. It was not unified and in agreement. But then the media that reported on it was part of the cover up as well. At least for the most part and a few honourable exceptions.

Yes I agree this is a key point.

The WC was not a monolith or unanimous. The Southern Wing of Russell, Boggs, and Cooper were really the three best people on the Commission. But they were steamrollered by the Troika.

Willens admits that here, and it was further proven out by the trickery of the last meeting. Where the Troika and Rankin and Warren suckered RUssell into thinking his reservations about the Single Bullet Fantasy would be in the record. But they were not since there was no stenographer there, although Rankin got someone to pose as if she was.

Willens' diary entry foreshadows that act of treachery by the Troika to erase the three dissidents.

::face.palm:: Now why would they need to do that just for some lone nut....?

It makes Boggs' death/disappearance all the more suspicious....I for one have always considered it a planned death by plane crash/explosion. So bad was it, the plane was not to be found.

CNN repeated one of their 50th Anniversary Programs tonight. It's really criminal that they showcase many of the covert propagandists exposed by DiEugenio without properly informing the viewers of exactly who those people are or what their true background and agenda is. They really did a job on Jim Garrison reviving the 1960's era spin on him without mentioning the revelations of 'Destiny Betrayed'. Creepy shadow government stuff.

The program gave Vinny the last word on everything. Pale and sickly Bugliosi looks like he is slowly turning into Gollum.

Yes! I can't believe they were able to find a guy like Specter who was able to sell his BS! Unbelievable!

Notable "omissions" from the 2 hour CNN show:

(partial list)

Assistant Press secretary Kilduff pointing to his temple as the location of the fatal shot (even though they show the very beginning and the very end of the press conference).

The fact that the mentioned FBI report (which the WC was expected to follow) disagreed with the "magic bullet" theory, and Russell's dissent with that finding..

The fact that General Walker, whose attempted assassination was covered, loudly complained often that the bullet the WC/FBI used to connect Oswald was not the same bullet as the one recovered from his office.

Oswald's encounter with DPD Marion Baker

The HSCA findings

Bugliosi stating that Oswald was the only TSBD employee who left the building

Bugliosi stating that Americans lost trust in their government because of the assassination, actually it was because of the Warren Report.

Bugliosi stating that not one (other) bullet has been found and linked to the assassination, actually several ofhter shell casings and bullet fragments have been found, but the links depend on whose telling the story.

CBS assassination simulation uses straight track in place of curved road.

BBC assassination simulation uses Carcano without attached scope.

BBC assassination simulation has Connally in the wrong position in the car and also the wrong entrance wound

Interview with Walker segment shows 1 too many bullet holes...?

Bugliosi says that Americans "lost confidence in their government" led to them considering the govt as "accessory after the fact" when actually it was the government concealing evidence and lying to the public that lead to that conclusion. Which I feel certain that Vince has actually prosecuted an accessory after the fact case on similar ground (might have been the Manson conspiracy, more work needed)

(more to come)

Note : Koch Industries has feel-good commercial accompanying this piece.
"All that is necessary for tyranny to succeed is for good men to do nothing." (unknown)

James Tracy: "There is sometimes an undue amount of paranoia among some conspiracy researchers that can contribute to flawed observations and analysis."

Gary Cornwell (Dept. Chief Counsel HSCA): "A fact merely marks the point at which we have agreed to let investigation cease."

Alan Ford: "Just because you believe it, that doesn't make it so."

I made the mistake of watching it and my blood is still boiling. Lying CIA whores. Ya they did their best to make Garrison look like a fool.
I hate CNN and Tom fucking Hanks. Sadly many people will be swayed.

I didn't mean to hijack Jim's thread with the CNN show but they are getting away with murder and most of the public is not aware that the spokespeople they are listening to are a carefully orchestrated collection of pro-government propagandists and shills posing as authors or experts. The public has no clue of DiEugenio's exposing of those people and their insidious background and purpose. They have no idea they are being subtly misled by pro-government liars. What kills me is when the program is finished how good a job they have done spinning it in the Lone Nut direction for those who don't understand the conflicting evidence CNN goes out of its way to not mention. When Vinny pleads that there was no evidence to support the conspiracy theorists' claims the public has no idea that the reason for that is because the investigation was criminally corrupted by the government and that evidence was covered-up.

Each time I see propaganda shows like this I think to myself they are so outrageous and offer such extreme lies and deception that the program itself could be taken and narrated by a person like DiEugenio to show what they are omitting or the true context of what they are trying to spin. A counter program could be made showing the deception and countering evidence using the program itself. Jim was very effective in doing that with Reclaiming History. He could do the same with this CNN propaganda piece. The only trouble is in the Killing Kennedy generation there might not be enough credible Americans out there who are interested in it. America is brain dead and the public didn't even react to the new video proving Flight 800's shoot down. We need truthful content laws for the media. What CNN is doing here is serious. It's equal to a high crime and complicity in the treasonous assassination of a US president. It's amazing what the sponsors will tolerate.

Jim's OP is good work and shows Willens saw the "Commission" as a true commissioning of a predetermined official verdict by predetermined controlling members.
