Czech Opponents of Islam block traffic at Czech-Austrian border crossing

About a hundred demonstrators against Islam blocked traffic at the DolníDvořiště border crossing with Austria in south Bohemia on Wednesdayevening. The event, which lasted for about half an hour, was initiated bythe opposition Dawn party and the non-parliamentary Bloc Against Islam withthe aim to persuade the cabinet to send the army to protect the borderagainst refugees. Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said on Tuesday that thestate would deploy the army in the event that the police could no longercope with the influx of migrants.

[this was one of the smaller of similar actions/protests around CZE - a majority of Czechs feel that all foreigners - including 'Western ones' should be discouraged or not allowed; they feel even stronger about those from non-Western and non-white countries. Racism is alive and well here, sadly. Despite most Czechs being atheists, they are very hostile to Islam. They had long been isolated from any outsiders other than the Russians and a few Vietnamese guest workers and still feel uncomfortable with strangers who don't speak their language or have their background and habits.]
